No reply as yet, possibly due to racing in Europe. MJ Provide invoices for cost of First Aid courses to Ascot Executive for reimbursement for Ascot members. Absent held over to next meeting JL? CC to discuss with Zlatan the assessing of the Level 1 coaching diaries as soon as possible so as to provide feedback to the coaches. Done CC PE to follow-up with Seb s coaching diary. Done, no response from Seb. PE MJ to let Zlatan know costs are approved for on-water assessment costs & check if there are any additional costs for checking the diaries. MJ? Not discussed at meeting Awaiting response from CWA regarding the insurance coverage for STC sanctioned events undertaken away from clubs. Ash Nesbitt verbally advised MJ that the WA STC should designate certain activities as approved and inform CWA of those activities. Awaiting written MJ . Action from this item: CC to liase with Greg Kippin & create a generic advice designating events and send to CWA. Coaches advised of change in motion regarding coaching for STC requirements. CC race paddlers to request they look for paddles. Not done yet. CC Race structure report. JL absent held over to next meeting JL JL to send notification of series points calculations to paddlers. JL absent held over to next meeting JL? JL - To check on availability of water for slalom training on the Avon JL Descent training weekend and advise coaches ASAP. Done. Double Dutch C2 and Flag C2 need repairs. JL & SW to get two quotes to repair both boats. SW: Red C2 also needs repairs. MJ requested that John Wilkie be approached and asked if he will repair Double Dutch C2 and/or Red C2. Darryl Long to be asked for a price on repairing the Flag C2. 3 Further discussion on Business arising Paddles should be numbered and noted on inventory with asset numbers. No action possible till inventory list is done. Helmets. Slalom community encouraged by Stuart MacIntosh of Penrith Whitewater Stadium to view and follow the link to UK Canoe Slalom rules. Secretary s note. Unable to locate relevant section after 5 minutes searching. We will need the exact page in this 48 page document. Action: LW to update safety equipment section in Slalom handbook. Treasurer s report Detailed accounts follow the minutes on Page 6. Ascot fees money found. Approx $1000 left after coaching fees are deducted. General Acount has $6919 TID account has $7517 unchanged. LW: Race fees from Winter 2010 race 2 & 3 missing. JL and LW unable to resolve where they are. Action: LW and JL to continue searching. No answer on Kent Street weir deposit yet. Accounting irregularities from CWA have occurred. LW has been double checking for payments errors. E.g. Seb Ewing s Nationals fees were not transferred though everybody else s were. Action: CC to coordinate with Zlatan and the coaches on this. CC s note: Subsequent to meeting August 29 th has been cancelled due to lack of water. Zlatan is unavailable for following weekend of September 4 th & 5 th so currently scheduled for following weekend of 11 th & 12 th Sept. Nationals Committee agreed than a Nationals information session to be held after the Schools Race on Saturday September 4 th. Action: MJ to send Action: MJ advises Martin Watson is investigating options to send boats to Nymboida Walyunga: PE: Avon upstream courses suggested by Paul Udinga suffer from access problems. Action: MJ to ask BD for information about upstream courses. MJ to liaise further with Paul Udinga regarding this. Calendar of Events Next race is Schools on Sept 4 th. SW is organizing medals/trophies. Paddlers Points: Moved: Paddlers who miss WA STC winter series races because of national selection shall be entitled to earn points. The points allocated will be the average of the paddler s score for all other winter series races. No allowance will be granted for other missed races or injury/illness. Action: MJ to decision to CWA Prize dinner Committee felt last year s venue, Maylands Golf Club function rooms, are suitable. Provisional date is Friday 22 nd October. Committee would like to make special acknowledgement to Nicole Lowther for race day volunteer work at the event. Action: CC to investigate availability of function rooms Action: MJ to approach Mainpeak for sponsorship prizes 2012 Nationals MJ has ed Australian STC to advise that WA STC can't commit to 2012 Nationals due to lack of suitable course with water. Communications CC reports slalomwa@gmail.com address working well. MJ advises not had the time yet to explore the new account. Action: MJ asked to cc all s to slalomwa@gmail.com in the interim. 5 Slalom Report to WA STC 23 August 2010 White Water Park Prior to the Federal election, Don Randall (Liberal) promised to give $5 million to the White Water Park if elected. Alanah MacTiernan stated that she supports the White Water Park but did not go as far as pledging financial support. Resolution of the election will no doubt give clarity to this situation in due course. A white water park will be essential if slalom in WA is to grow, flourish and contribute to this exciting Olympic discipline. Winter Racing Season Special thanks to the race coordinators, Joy and Richard Lowther, for all their efforts in organising and running races this winter. The State Titles was the only race held on white water and although the water levels were very low the race was well-supported. Level 1 Coaching Course With the non-existent white water, almost throughout the South-West this winter, the WA STC will have to extend the time allowed for trainees to complete the assessment on white water component of their qualification requirements. Qualified Coaches Bevan Dashwood has informed me that he will re-do his First Aid qualification in October and then submit other requirements for re-accreditation as a coach. Insurance I have received a verbal response from Ash Nesbitt of CWA to the insurance enquiries I sent to him in July. Verbally, he advises that the WA STC should designate certain activities as approved and inform CWA of those activities. This is in line with the information provided last month by Sam Lyons. I have asked CWA for written confirmation. First NTS camp for 2011 I have asked Peter Eckhardt when the first NTS camp for 2011 will be held as it may impact on plans made by WA families for holidays and/or boat transport after Nymboida. Next Slalom camps in WA Zlatan would like to hold a slalom camp at Collie in the 2 nd week of school holidays. I have approached Water Corporation and requested water for 6, 7, 8 October. December dates requested are 10, 11, 12 or 12, 13, 14 th. The poor inflow of water to Wellington Dam could impact negatively on this request but I will be kept informed. Nymboida Nationals 2011 Have sent to paddlers about Nymboida and suggested an information evening, if possible with John Wilkie who grew up in the area. Zlatan and Bevan also know Nymboida; a Friday evening at AKC in the next 2-3 weeks may be suitable. If not also suitable to Swan paddlers, it may be better to arrange an evening at CWA s premises. Martin Watson is investigating transport options for boats to Nymboida. Walyunga Slalom Course Access Senior Ranger Paul Udinga has informed me that his application for funds to install a picnic table and flat stable ground was not successful. For future applications, labour is the main area that we as a group can contribute and have the value of the labour costed as our input. Steve Mueller, who is an architect, has agreed that he could do drawings of proposals, my thanks to Steve. Slalom Technical Committee Final Minutes 24/08/2010 Page 5 of 11

6 Paul Udinga has more recently told me that his superiors have indicated that there are records of slalom courses further upstream that may be worthwhile revisiting as the cultural constraints with traditional owners mean that it could take over 18 months to get permission for the works. This is well before my time in slalom but Bevan Dashwood, Colin Thorpe and Brian Morgan may be able to provide information. It is urgent that we form a sub-committee and liaise with him Canoe Slalom World Championships The World Champs take place from September at Tacen, Ljubljiana, Slovenia, with WA being represented by Kynan Maley and Robin Jeffery.
