2 PRIJON FAMILY KAYAKSPORT IS OUR PASSION PRIJON FAMILY We re already infected with the kayak-virus in the fourth generation. In our kayak factory in Rosenheim we develop, assemble and test our kayaks. Our passion for kayaking is expressed in our kayaks. We re proud of producing in our home Bavaria, being close to the majority of our customers and being able to safeguard jobs in the long term. We re also consequently trying to source our carefully selected parts locally to support domestic producers and to meet ecological requirements. Our HTP is recyclable, very durable and the used colors are free of heavy metals. You ll feel our passion, when using our kayaks. 3 CONTENT WHICH BOAT IS THE RIGHT ONE FOR ME? We have divided our touring and seakayaks into 3 categories, in order to make the selection process easier. Kayaks for beginners and occasional paddlers All-round touring boat for rivers and lakes Fast single kayaks for lakes, coast and the sea The division is mainly made according to boat shape and purpose. Regarding boat shape you can simplify: long + slim = wobbly + fast short + wide = stable + slow Further distinctions can be made regarding the equipment of the kayak. If you are looking for a kayak for tours with luggage, then allround touring boats or fast single kayaks are better suited, as they have certain standards of equipment, like water-tight storage and perfectly adjustable seating position. But a basic rule is: Test first, then buy! The essential difference is the technical equipment of the boats. There are fewer waterproof storages and the seating is also simpler. 5 STORY EUROPE CROSSED 3.300K FROM SWEDEN TO THE BLACK SEA To paddle from Sweden to the Black Sea is a no small undertaking, but Jonathan Lungqvist & Marcus Aspsjö from Sweden made this journey as their first of a series of three adventures that they would do over a year. They choose Prijon Prilite Marlins as their kayaks, for this model has a reputation of being a sturdy, stable, durable and efficient expedition kayak. That has a good cargo capacity with the performance to make their journey in their planned time frame. Their first leg of 500 km followed the Danish coast after crossing over from Helsingborg in Sweden, then down to the south east tip, where they did a seven hour open water crossing of the Baltic Sea to Germany, followed by a a short paddle up the coast of Poland into the Odra river. 800 km later after paddling up stream through Poland into Slovakia they then had the next major obstacle, a 100 km walk dragging their kayaks over a mountain pass over into the Vah river on the other side. Now they had the current with them and progress was much fasetr, soon they were paddling past Budapest on the Donau, then into Serbia. Here they meet colorful friendly locals along the riverbanks as they camped each night under the stars cooking on open fires. From Sweden to the Black Sea Jonathan Lundqvist & Marcus Aspsjö Following the border to Rumania and then into Bulgaria they eventually found themselves at the river mouth of a canal that lead from the Donau out to the Black Sea. Now for the first time they experienced the difficulties of paddling in rough seas, strong currents and winds that this area brings at the end of summer. After 3300 km and ten different countries, they had no more than a week of paddling to their final destination of Istanbul, but the weather and sea conditions made each day they attempted to paddle south along the coast treacherous and difficult. With the start date for their second large adventure to walk across India looming over them, Marcus and Jonathan took the wise decision to store their kayaks on the coast to return the next year, to continue perhaps even further beyond Istanbul. A team consisting of Sebastian Gründler and Ulrich Kittelberger erased one of the last blank areas on the map of European rivers. Even by using satellite data, the research about the rivers located between polar circle and North Cape took nearly one year, as there was nearly no information available on the internet. The parameters: Far-away from the few roads, reachable only by a day s march, with an average length of whitewater of minimum 40 k in unknown terrain a special and challenging physical challenge. The idea: only a minimum of luggage, to keep the handling in heavy whitewater, and walking and paddling during the midnight sun as long as possible. Especially light kayaking material was the most important premise for these speed-tours. Plus an agile and fast kayak for whitewater with steep and unclear headwaters. Still offering enough volume for a sleeping bag and a tent. Therefore we chose the CURVE - a good decision! It starts with the loading on the car roof. You need a base support, officially approved for your car. These base supports are available at car dealers. We offer you kayak-specific accessories which you will find on the following pages. All our products of the transport-program are. BOAT CART For transporting your kayak from the car to the water and back and in case of walking passages during tours, we offer you a large assortment of boat carts. The choice for the right cart depends on the type of the kayak and the requirements to the pack size. Smaller and lighter carts are easier to store in the kayak, larger carts with bigger wheels roll better in rough terrains and don t cave in that easily. DAY TOURER S & L The Day Tourer S boat cart is equipped with a strong elastic roundrubber and can be attached to the kayak within seconds. 24 TRANSPORT Vertical support bars enable you to transport several boats on your roof rack, as the boats are transported upright side by side. The foldable version can remain on the roof of the car, even at low vertical clearances, e.g. at the garage door. The material used has already received its permanent protection against UV rays. Normal ground impact occurring when touring cannot harm the hull. Transport with standard roof racks is easy. Slight deformations caused by the cargo straps will go back to the normal shape within minutes after unloading the kayak. When transporting longer boats over longer distances, we recommend you to additionally secure the ends of the boat with straps. Art.No If the boat is permanently stored outside, the boat hull should be covered, in order to prevent premature fading of the colour. Temperatures of -40 C to +60 are no problem at all. Even under such extreme conditions, HTP will keep its flexibility and sturdiness. It is not necessary to treat it with varnishes, wax or other polishing substances. These would become apparent on the surface and cause unattractive discolourations. For cleaning, just use warm water with a dash of washing-up liquid. 48 ACCESSORIES 49

26 HTP - HOCHLEISTUNGS-THERMOPLAST For the production of its world-famous HTP-kayaks, PRIJON is using a special PE, called HTP. This material can only be used in blow-moulding and not in roto-moulding, as used by other producers of kayaks. The molecule chains of HTP are approximately 10 times longer than those of rotated PE. This makes the boat hulls stiffer, lighter and less susceptible to abrasion. HTP-kayaks have clear advantages regarding form stability, abrasion and boat weight, compared to kayaks made of rotated PE. HTP is very environmentally friendly. When it is recycled, there are no poisonous gases or residues; it is ground water neutral and free of heavy metals. Care: HTP-boat shells are very sturdy and already possess a permanent protection against UV-rays. Therefore they need no treatment with varnishes, wax or other care materials Extremely high mechanical durability Not sensitive to ground impact Stiff and form-stable during paddle tours in the Arctic and the Tropics Comparably high weight PRILITE For PriLite boats, the ABS-combination plates, sealed with UV-resistant perspex, are pulled into the hot moulds, which have a temperature of approximately 80 degrees, in a computerized process, using heat and vacuum. The upper and lower parts of the boat are inseparably joined together by a double-sided U-profile. This profile additionally strengthens the sides of the kayak against impact. The mounting of deck mountings and interior fittings are thoroughly done by hand, as on all Prijon boats. Advantages: PriLite boats are approx. 20% lighter than comparable kayaks made of HTP. At the same time there is a clear advantage regarding stability compared to GFK or Carbon/Aramide. Repairs/Care: Superficial scratches can be polished off with a special paste, available in specialized shops. Larger repairs are made with Epoxi. The inside of the boat should not be permanently exposed to sun (store upside down!) Lighter than HTP More sturdy than GRP/Carbon Aramide More susceptible to mechanical wear and tear than HTP LAMINATED KAYAKS Laminateed kayaks are made by hand in the traditional way. They are more sensitive to contact with the ground compared to boats made of HTP or PriLite, and should therefore be predominantly used in free-flowing waters. PRIJON is offering the two material varieties of GPR and Carbon/Aramide. Carbon-Aramide These boats mainly consist of carbon and Aramide fibres, combining the excellent qualities of carbon, which is very hard and gives the boat its stiffness with the qualities of Aramide, which is very shock-proof and provides the necessary impact resistance of the kayak. The biggest advantage of this construction method is clearly the incredibly low weight (up to 10kg lighter than HTP-boats) The lightest boat, 25% less weight than a HTP-kayak Elegant shape More susceptible to mechanical wear and tear than HTP and PriLite GRP The fibre mats of our GRP-kayaks mainly consist of glass fibres, which are very stiff, but still reasonably priced.
