The main objective of the Churchill High School Cheerleading Program is to support the athletic teams by promoting school spirit & sportsmanship. Through cheerleading, athletes will develop leadership in order to represent the school with honor and dignity. To participate in tryouts, you MUST complete and return the following, on or before May 21, Tryout Information & Permission Form Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation (dated AFTER 5/30/2013) Emergency Medical Card (with parent signature) MCPS Student Parent Permission Form Enclosed in this packet you will find the following information: Tryout Expectations and Procedures Potential Financial Commitments Required Tryout Forms (listed above) Upcoming Dates to Remember If you have any questions before or during tryouts, please feel free to contact Jennifer Clark (Varsity Head Coach) at (919) or Thank you and good luck! 3 **All required tryout forms must be returned on or before May 21 st ** (See Page 1 for list of required documents) Expectations All candidates must: Be academically eligible Have all required forms completed and returned Come with a positive attitude Attend ALL clinic days in order to tryout Bring a water bottle Dress appropriately each day of clinics and tryouts: o A white or gray shirt and dark shorts o No Churchill Cheerleading paraphernalia o Track or Soffe shorts for bottoms (No briefs!) o Tryout outfit must adhere to school policy o Remove all jewelry prior to the start of clinics or tryouts o Pull hair up and out of their face Procedures Clinics and Tryouts will be conducted in the Auxiliary (Lower) at Churchill High School. A tentative tryout outline is listed below. Day 1: Introduction to all material (cheer & dance) Review jumps Stunt group placement & review (individuals with no stunting experience will be taught) Day 2: Review material Tumbling Tryout Stunt Tryout (groups will be selected for you) Day 3: Final Tryout (cheer, dance and jumps) All portions of tryouts will be closed. Final tryouts will be conducted before a panel of four judges. Team placement will be based solely on raw score. Team selections will be posted in the front of the school by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30 th (Final tryout day). Individuals wishing to inquire about strengths and weaknesses may request this information.
