President s Report - October 2014 G Day All, Some of our Members went up to the Gold City Club this month and had a great time. Thank you to all their members who made us feel so welcome and at home.

3 President s Report - October 2014 G Day All, Some of our Members went up to the Gold City Club this month and had a great time. Thank you to all their members who made us feel so welcome and at home. It was great to catch up with a lot of friends that we haven t seen for a long time. The Festival is just about on us and we have had a few nominations, but we still need a lot more, so get yours in as soon as possible. We are still looking for ladies to donate cakes for the morning and afternoon teas, so if you can help contact Maureen. While we are on the Festival just a reminder to those that are entering, be sure to announce your song in a slow and clear voice, you are judged from the time you walk out on the stage, and also remember your microphone technic. The October Pitt Stop will be the last for the year, so we hope to have a good roll up to show we need them again next year. To all our Member on sick call we hope you feel better real soon. We would like to advise that due to the number of severe flu cases and illnesses which have been reported recently throughout Queensland and can sometimes continue during the rest of the year, the Association certainly has no objection whatsoever if anyone wishes to bring their own personal microphone sock and would actually commend them for their thoughtfulness. If anyone does wish to purchase their own microphone sock, we suggest they contact Arties Music on Ross River Road as apparently they are relatively cheap to buy and come in a number of weird and wonderful colours.

For her third album she received the Independent Album of the Year at the 2010 Australian Independent Country Music Awards. Amber also received the Horizon Award at the 2010 Country Music Awards of Australia for her success in touring, recording, songwriting and performing.

Gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled downstairs defying the pull of Morpheus. With laboured breath, he leaned against the door-frame, gazing in the kitchen. 24 THE 2014 Slim Dusty Community Mateship and Youth Awards have evolved to become a standalone event. For the first time, the awards will be held in the main gallery of the Slim Dusty Centre in Kempsey later this year. At a gala dinner with entertainment on November 28, we will recognise two members of our nationwide community of mates for their achievements, Joy McKean, lifelong partner of Slim Dusty and Vice Chair of the Slim Dusty Foundation said. The achievements are varied; good neighbours, good community supporters and leaders, and worthy recipients of their own community's nomination as prime examples of the values held and depicted by Slim and the people he sang and told about." I would urge each and every one of you to nominate someone you believe is a good person to represent the Slim Dusty Community and Mateship Awards values and show them that they are appreciated." The awards were developed a number of years ago and recognise and acknowledge worthy people within the community who represent these values and make a positive contribution to society. Winning the award has meant a lot to myself and my immediate family who have been equally thrilled by the achievement. It has been a real joy to be recognised in this way and to be part of the Slim Dusty Legacy to this wonderful nation. It makes me truly proud to call Australia home. Nominations will be taken over a six-week period. They will close on October 31.
