1 SIXTH GRADE FUN DAY The sixth grade had an exciting last couple of weeks. Since they studied ecosystems and recently completed an investigation of dams, they toured the Brighton Dam facilities. While there, students worked with Maryland State Naturalist volunteers to release the trout they had raised. They also learned how to tie flies, fly fish, and seine the creek. Approximately 260 students from BCMS participated along with 60 other schools in Maryland and D.C. In the same week, sixth graders had their own Fun Day. Students rotated through 4 rotations that included sports, games, art, music, and computers. Thank you to our teachers for all their planning and effort. The sixth grade students especially want to thank the PE staff for their of the outdoor games, the Arts Program for their outstanding support, and all the other staff involved. Thank you! M C S THE PAW PRESS B R I G G S C H A N E Y M I D D L E S C H O O L END OF THE YEAR!! J U N E 3 R D, Even as we ve been counting down the days, the end of the year came so fast! Our last Bear Bash was extra special with a live band formed by our own Savannah Kunze. They re were arts and crafts, outdoor games and a dunk tank! Even for students upstairs watched an inspirational movie, The Knights of the Bronx. It didn t compare to the fun outside, but it beats a study skills video. Our sixth, seventh, and eight grade chorus, band, and orchestra received Outstanding scores at the spring festivals. They showcased their talents for our family and friends at the spring concerts. The boys did a special number as a group, The Rhythm of Love, and the girls performed Jar of Hearts. For those who only heard them perform during the school assemblies, they were spectacular! It was great to acknowledge each others scholastic and extracurricular achievements at the NJHS induction earlier in the semester and the Honor Roll, Straight A and Awards Day in the last couple of weeks. Eight graders revealed in their special events. They not only went to Six Flags but they also spent a day at Smokey Glen. They really came dressed up for the 8th grade dinner dance. The girls looked so beautiful, in their party dresses, and the guys looked so handsome. Not only was there dancing, but there was a photo booth and raffle prizes. WHITMER by Kyle Zhu The Outward Bound trip was a spectacular experience! It is a 5-day trip outdoors, braving the wilderness and cold. During this trip, you get to sleep under tarps, rain or shine, hike, and play many games, learning how to cooperate together. Mr.Whitmer commented himself, Cold. Freezing cold. Water bottles frozen solid. But it is one of the happiest trips I have been on the students were very motivated. Once, two kids weren t paying attention to the path and got lost over a mile. The two instructors, though, after finding out, allowed them to make the mistake and kept on going. The two kids eventually found out they were on the wrong track and caught up with the rest. The students did so well this particular trip at the challenges that the adults abandoned the students and let sleep alone. The adults were close by, though! The students cook outside and eat pasta, beans and rice, and sometimes spaghetti and sauce. All for the homely fee of $100! Mr.Whitmer, a seventh grade social studies teacher, is delighted to take you along, but he can only choose kids. If you are keen on joining, 6 th and 7 th graders, remember to keep this in mind!

Watch the third movie and read the tremendous book! BCMS Soccer By: Rachel Klumpp Girls: The girls soccer team had an amazing season! They won three games and lost two. They played five schools which are Wood, Lauderman, Banneker, Farquhar and Parkland. They didn t have any one or two captains they changed every week. The soccer team wouldn t had been so great without an amazing coach like Ms. Kenealy. She did a great job coaching and the girls had learned so much from the experience. Danielle Rehwoldt said I m so lucky to have been a part of this team. Ms. Kenealy did an outstanding job as coach- we couldn t of had a better one! The girls this season had great teamwork and energy! They did an outstanding job and had a great time. They worked really hard. Jessica Falcinelli said Ms. Kenealy was an awesome coach!! Everyone played awesome and improved so much and did so well! There was great effort in the team this year and anyone could see it! Ms. Kenealy said I am so proud of the accomplishments of each of the girls on the team. They worked so hard and we truly became a strong team. Great season lady bears! Nice job girl soccer! Boys: The boys soccer team also had an amazing season. They ended the season with three wins, one tie and one lost. They played five games too against Wood, Lauderman, Banneker, Farquhar and Parkland. They switched captains every week. The guys couldn t have been so great without the help from their coach Mr. Sheldon. Mr. Sheldon was a great help with the guys. The guys had great teamwork. The guys got very great experience from this and from Mr. Sheldon. The guys did a great job this season with a great team. You could see that they had a great time. They learned a lot new skills from Mr. Sheldon. Also with having some great talent on the team there was a lot of god leadership! Mr. Sheldon said The boys always played hard and worked well together as a team. Many 8th graders stepped up as leaders on the team and the boys always displayed great sportsmanship. There we a lot of guys who tried out this year and they turned out to be a great team. Shout out to all the soccer players! What a great season! You did great!!

4 P A G E 4 S T U D E N T L I F E Pennsylvania 2014 (Chapter 2) by - Nicholas West I floated to the ground, enclosed in a greenish bubble. The wreckage of the facility I had been in lay around me. I wasn t sure why I was alive, but I was. Bizarre. I needed to find what was going on, and why. A little ways away was a mountain. It seemed like a good place to go. But as I scaled it, the ground beneath me began to shift. I clung on for my life as I was flung to and fro. Suddenly a tremendous shape burst from the rock. It was vaguely humanoid, but made of steel. Its face was like that of a tiger, with sharp teeth. Its glowing red eyes stared at me. And it struck. I twisted my body to the side and wished for a weapon. Suddenly in each hand there was a lime-green cutlass. I had no time to wonder, though, because the monster was coming back. It drove a scything claw at me. I jumped, somehow going twenty feet straight up, and slashed at the thing s face. The blades hit it and brought a shower of sparks, cutting two deep furrows in the thing s eyes. It swayed drunkenly, and then pitched backward. I ran over to it. There was a hatch in its forehead. It was locked, so I cut in half. Inside were a complicated dashboard and a pilot s chair. A man was slumped underneath it in a pool of blood. But what interested me most was the symbol on the wall. It was the presidential seal. Oh no. Oh no no no. Why would the government do this? My mind whirled as I wandered through the mountains. What did the government want? I saw a chunk of metal on the ground And suddenly I was in a metal room. Explosions were all around me. I didn t think, just ran. As I dashed through the crumbling place, I spotted a door up ahead. Kicking it open, I jumped out and found myself plummeting to Earth, hundreds of miles below Suddenly I was lying on my back, gasping for air. What the heck was happening to me? The chunk of metal lay next to me. Maybe that had triggered it. What was it, though? A hallucination? Or a memory HORRIBLE STUPID ERROR CORRECTION: This is a continuation of a story printed in the pervious issue, mistakenly, titled When Horror Strikes at no fault of the author. It was in fact supposed to be titled, Pennsylvania: T H E P A W P R E S S

6 P A G E 6 The Five Elements (Part 4) by Joshua Sams I woke up to the sound of horns. I got out of bed and raced outside. Everyone was getting ready for battle. What s going on? I said. Mark answered, King Draka and his army has finally declared war. We raced to the front of the war line. Well, it seems like the warriors have finally come out. I m happy to say I have warriors of my own, Lord Draka said. From behind Lord Draka, five people approached. For a moment, I stood stuck horrified, facing my own father. I charged towards my dad as the others attacked the other four people. T H E P A W P R E S S P A G E 6 Dad! I yelled, What are you doing? I got knocked backward trying to block his attack. Our swords clashed and sparks came out. Then I tried to parry his attack. Cling! The blade of my sword fell off. I knew this fight had come to an end. Then before he laid the final blow, he grabbed my shoulder and said, Don t give up. There are challenges ahead of you. The forces of Trigon must be destroyed. You know what you must do. Believe in yourself. With that, he faded away with a smile. I looked around; it was pure chaos. War had broken out and people from both sides were dying. I realized that the other element keepers had defeated the closest person from their past. They were all attacking Lord Draka at once. I ran over to help them but it was too late. They all fell down, stabbed. Come here you re next, said Lord Draka. I fell on my knees as I saw the rebels fighting a hopeless fight against the soldiers of Lord Draka. I ve failed, I cried out. Then I noticed that a light of energy came from Mark and the other keepers. Each light matched their power as they all circled around me. I was encased in glowing gold armor and I had the power of each of the elements. Then I heard my dad s voice say, See what I said. You can t give up. Your friends are counting on you. The rebels are counting on you. Most importantly she is counting on you. I turned around and saw Lilly s dead body. I ran towards Lord Draka as he held his sword up to deflect my punch. Clash! My fist broke his sword. No! This is not supposed to happen, said Lord Draka with astonishment. I focused all the elements into one punch. This is for everyone you have killed, hurt or terrorized, I yelled. As my fist hit the dead center of his chest, a bright light overcame me. I fell to the ground and hit my head really hard. I walked over to the body of Lord Draka. How were you alone able to defeat me? said Lord Draka.

Then his voice faded away as he died. I then fell onto the ground unconscious. When I woke up the others were standing above me. a scared voice. When I stood up Lilly ran towards me and kissed me. Are you ok? She asked in I could only stuttered, um. I guess I was wrong about you. You turned out to be the person who saved Egypt, said Lilly. I m guessing this is your way of saying you like me? Maybe, she said with a smile. Hey kid, don t worry. Girls are complicated, said Mark as Olivia punched him. Wait a minute. You were dead. Am I dead too? I exclaimed. Then Zane said, When you killed Lord Draka we all got revived back to life. Wow that s great and creepy but mostly great! I said So what s next? Mark asked. Before Draka died he told me we would never beat Lord Trigon. Everyone looked surprised. Who is Lord Trigon? I asked. Lord Trigon was the first king of Egypt. He created dark Egyptian magic. One trick he used was mind control. Somehow Lord Draka got his powers but at the cost of having Lord Trigon s spirit, Zane explained. If it s true that Lord Trigon has risen then this is a dark day for mankind. I think it s time to search for Master Wayne. He is the only one who can teach us our element paths, said Mark. Ok, Jason and I will go tell the rebels about our leave and help the wounded rebels, said Lilly. Ok, everyone else follow me. We need to get the supplies, said Mark. Is this your idea of a date? I asked with a grin on my face. Maybe, she said as she smiled again and grabbed my hand. Mark gave me the whole girls are complicated look again. After that day we gained a name for ourselves. They called us the Five Elements. Lilly and I helped the wounded and told them about our quest. We met up with Zane, Mark and Olivia, and we were off to what might have been the most dangerous mission of all time. The End.
