Interesting Indoor Initiatives Equipment needed for Trials. For the karts we had pipes and little plastic bolts What the Trials were like for the team. The teams found building a kart very challenging because we had to find someone that was very light to travel to the back of the hall. We also found the blue jigsaw puzzles hard because we had to figure out where to put them. The easiest challenge was drawing your instructor because you only had to draw and colour. Tent building was extremely fun and could be useful at some point. The indoor bowls were very difficult because you had to judge whether to throw it hard or soft. and tyres. For the jigsaws we had to work as a team to get the puzzles together. When we were drawing our instructors we only had pencils and pens. Also when we were doing the indoor bowls there was a mat and we had to roll tiny bowling bowls.
Awesome Abseiling and Climbing Equipment Safety harness for climbing Helmets Caribina Ropes Clothing/footwear struggled but we made it in the end. Next we learned about teamwork because we had to work together. Someone was the anchor and someone was pulling the rope. We took turns at it. Next we moved to a big rock that looked like a nose and after we climbed it we had an amazing view! We all tumbled and fell at some point but we all enjoyed it and had great fun! Reviewed by Mark, Scott and Kerry Waterproof trousers and jacket Hiking boots Layers We went on a bus and we were taken to the middle of nowhere. We climbed up a hill to get to the top where there was a big rock for us to climb. We all had a shot at climbing it. Some of us Us in a team photo! Aren t we awesome?!
The Incredible Team Challenge For the Team Challenge the equipment we needed was wellies, waterproofs and helmets. The first thing we did in team challenge was the rope swing when we had to swing on a rope over water. But everyone had to get across to a small plank of wood and if you fell off we all had to start again. After that we had to get a box out of a circle with a rope without going into the circle. In my group our instructor was Chris and we had to go on to a plank and order by shoe size and tallest to the smallest without stepping off the plank. We looked at the gorge level for the next day. Then we went to a grassy area around the centre and we played different games. Reported By Lucy Jackson and Jonathan Beso
Glorious Gorge Walk For the gorge walk we had to wear- a swimming costume/swim shorts, jogging bottoms, t-shirts, sock, wellington boots, waterproofs, a buoyancy aid and a helmet. We went into a gorge which is a river with high sides and walked through it. We also went to a waterfall and tried to catch the watermelon ball that Chris our instructor had. We put our head under the waterfall to see if we could breathe behind it. The Gorge was right outside the centre. James said it was cold, wet and slippery, really big, deep and long with a lot of waterfalls. Naomi said it was really fun and it was funny when we all kept falling over. When we got back first we all went to the waterproof room and got our waterproofs off and got changed because we where soaking. Most people enjoyed the challenge. Reported by Naomi McArthur and James Collins
The Equipment Needed The equipment we needed for canoeing was swimming costumes/trunks, wetsuits, waterproofs, buoyancy aids and wellies. We required these things to keep us as dry as possible but they didn t keep the water out as well as we hoped it would so when we emptied our wellies out we had half of the loch in our boots! We brought our disposable cameras so we could take some fabulous pictures. Fun and Games. We were split into 4 canoes and played a game where you had to do a dare if you lost and we raced each other. This really helped us to get the groove of our timing. Our arms were painful from all the rowing! At the end we were allowed to jump in and splash about as we couldn t get any wetter than what we were before! It was a fabulous experience & although we were soaked we loved it! Here are some great pictures... Reviewed by Clare & David
Fabulous Ardentinny Exploring!!!!! Teams & Equipment In Ardentinny we had to wear waterproofs when we took part in outdoor activities. We had to wear wellington boots or hiking boots. We also needed helmets. We had 2 teams, team 1 s instructor was Heather and team 2 s instructor was Chris. We went exploring in our teams. Lucy and Benjamin were in different teams- Lucy was in team 1 and Benjamin was in team 2. We had a different time table and different activities in different times. Exploring experience We explored Ardentinny and went into the woods, the beach, the sea and the gorge. Team 1 played hide and seek in the woods and we rubbed rocks together to make paint for our faces. We also went in the gorge and played on the beach. Team 2 done the same. Team 1 got hot chocolate and team 2 played games. Team 1 had a work experience instructor there called Issac and he participated in all the activities with us. Reported by Lucy Gemmell Owen & Benjamin Patrick
FOREST WALKS We went on a forest walk with our team and instructor. We played Ninja hide and seek where we rubbed damp stones together to make a paste and used it to camouflage. We also put small leaves inside our helmets. We had to hide and make our way back to the bag without getting seen and Cahal got caught every time we played. It was hard but some people made it to the end. We travelled through fields and woods, over fences and we seen a huge waterfall, and walked down a river. It was an amazing experience being out in the woods! SHELTER BUILDING We made a shelter, using sticks, moss and other supplies found amongst the trees. It took some time to find a good, flat spot of land to construct our shelter. We collected lots of sticks and placed them vertically against the tree to give it strength. It took quite a while to build, but it was worth it as we all got warm apple and blackcurrant juice. We all sat inside of the shelter and took a picture! Reviewed by Rachel & Cahal
Monday. 7.45pm. Ardentinny. The start of the journey!!!!!! For the Night Hike we wore our waterproofs and welly boots. We also had to wear joggers, a jumper with a teashirt underneath the jumper and 2 pairs of socks. We could bring a pair of gloves but most importantly- a torch!!!!!!! We started the journey and we walked. We walked through the beach and the sea at night was beautiful. We all turned our torches off and it was pitch black but the sea was still shining. We looked across and saw all the buildings lit up, it was awesome. We made our way up to the fields and it lead us to a road and across from it was a big forest. We crossed the road and climbed up to the forest. Eventually we got there and we had to turn on our lights to see because it was that dark. We walked up further and some of us thought we saw a ghost but it was just a sign to tell us where to go! We reached a wee bit that we had to jump over to get to the gorge and we walked through it. It was so cold but we had wellys on so it wasn t that bad. We came out the gorge and walked back though the beach. We certainly thought this was really fun and challenging. By Zach Mauchin and Niamh Mcintire
The Fabulous Orienteering In Ardentinny if you want to go Orienteering you need to follow the instructions below: First you need to get a card that has a picture of something in or around the Ardentinny centre and grounds, from you instructor. You need to wear a hat, gloves, waterproofs and wellingtons-it can be wet! You will need: A torch, a team, a team name and a map of the area of the around you. Once you have found the item you have been looking for you shout your team name and they will come to see if it is the item you have been looking for. If your team agree with your decision you will need to try and find it on the map and point it out to the instructor and if he says you got it right he will give you a point and a new card and start all over again. It is a great activity to familiarise yourself with the area and really investigate your surroundings! When you are Orienteering you will need to split up and try and find the item on the picture.
The Marvellous Mountain Biking Presentation This presentation on Thursday night was based on mountain biking and staying safe when riding a bike. We learned that one of the best places to ride a mountain bike is Isle of Skye. We were also shown a video of a professional mountain biker doing stunts. It was a good presentation and many of us were interested in trying a new experience in biking. The presentation was interesting because we seen the equipment for mountain biking like gloves and helmets and various different bikes. The Fabulous Disco Party When we were in Ardentinny we had a disco with the other school on the last night. We all danced and sang to all our favourite songs and partied all night long. We all enjoyed the disco as it was our last night in Ardentinny and the perfect ending. It was one of all of our favourite parts of the week because we could talk to our friends, dance as much as we wanted, sing different songs and chill out.
Rock Hop was a fascinating experience as we got to see things such as seals, barnacles and the old L Oreal factory which is now a military base called Faslane. Team 2 started off on easier rocks and it was quite slippy to get over to but we managed. Then we progressed onto harder rocks. Once we had completed our climb we had a water fight and our instructor Chris done a signature move called the flying salmon. We jumped off a waterfall into the choppy sea and it was an amazing experience. We saw things such seaweed, the beautiful mountains and the view was amazing. We didn t get the buses back to the centre as we were soaking wet so we had to walk. It was one of the best experiences ever and we would love to do it again. Reviewed by Rebeka & Jack The other team, team 1 went to a completely different place from team 2 to complete their Rock Hop.
