Let s pretend to be a boat now, sailing halfway around the world to get to our beautiful big island. Row row row your boat Have the children pretend to row their boats by sitting on their bottoms & rowing back & forwards. Either with feet off the ground, or flat on the ground if this is too difficult for them. Play &/or sing the song for them as they go. Page 5

6 Whilst building their new homes, they would have probably camped out in tents. How much fun would that have been?! Let s pretend to put our tents up now! Modified Triangle Yoga Pose Stand straight & spread the legs & arms to the sides. Exhale & slowly start sliding the right hand down the right leg keeping the left hand overhead. Slowly come up after holding the pose for about 15 seconds. Repeat the same on the other side. If they can t stand up, just have them putting their arms out to their sides & moving them downwards one at a time, then upwards. The children would have had simple hand-made toys to play with. Perhaps a little windmill. Have you ever seen a brightly coloured windmill being blown around & around by the wind? If there is no breeze, you can blow it to make it spin around fast. Like this! Page 6

7 Windmill (Pin wheel) Yoga Pose Stand up tall & stretch your arms out to your sides (if they can t stand up, just sitting down with arms out to the side is fine). Take a deep breath in & blow out as slowly as you can. Pretend that your breath is moving your arms in slow, tiny circles. Take another deep breath in & this time, as you blow out, try spinning your arms faster. Let s pretend to be going on an adventure together now. This hula hoop could be a tunnel, or a cave, or anything you like. Can you walk or crawl through the hoop as I hold it up for you? Activity with prop Hula Hoop: Hold the hoop up so that the children can crawl or toddle/walk through it. They may be hesitant at first, but once they have mastered it, will want to do it again & again & again. Do this for length of a song ideally a fun one like: o Alvin & the Chipmunks Hula Hoop o Move your body Page 7

8 Meditation/Cool Down: Have the children sit down whilst you act out being the animals in following song & encourage them to become some of the animals too. Creatures of the Rain & Sun Hippopos (Hippo), rhionos (rhino), elephant that weighs a ton, baggy pant, ickle ant, creatures of the rain & sun, Creatures of the rain & sun. Dragonfly flying by, monkey with the purple bottom, Kangaroo, moo cow moo, creatures of the rain & sun, creatures of the rain & sun Pink flamingos on tippy toes, a wombat with a hairy nose, a beautiful moth, flies through the night, looking for a shining light Tiny bug, slimy slug, little puppy having fun, pussy cat, flying bat, creatures of the rain & sun, creatures of the rain & sun Pretty bird of paradise, seagulls chewing chocolate buns, you & me & everyone, creatures of the rain & sun, creatures of the rain & sun, creatures of the rain & sun. 9 Once the music finishes say Namaste as you bow to the group & finish. Page 9

10 Week Two Theme: Pets Introduction: Namaste everyone (bowing to the group as a whole or each child in turn). Welcome to our Fun-key Yoga class. Let s warm up our bodies for some Fun-key Yoga! Warm-up: Do the Hullabaloo (just do it for them standing in front of them encouraging them to do as many of the actions that they can, being as animated as you can throughout). Or as a 2 nd option: Hot Potato (Wiggles) (again, do the dance in front of them in a very animated way, encouraging them to do whatever actions they can). Story incorporating poses: Does anybody have a pet at home? Or perhaps have a friend or relative who has pets? Pets can be wonderful companions, & can make great play-mates. We must know though when they want to play with us, & when they need some time alone. Let s pretend to be a Page 10

11 friendly puppy, waking up from a nice sleep & having a stretch. Downward Dog Yoga Pose Stand with feet apart. Slowly start bending down at the waist, till your hands reach the ground or are close to the ground. Now lean your body back slightly, so as to resemble an upside down V. Don t forget to make a barking sound like a happy puppy! Hold for the count of 10. Cats can make good friends too, curled up asleep in a sunny patch of sunlight. Let s become a cat having been woken up from their sleep by the playful puppy, wanting to have some fun! Cat Yoga Pose Sit on all fours. Arch up the back, similar to the way a cat does, when it is angry. Now meaow & then hiss like a cat. Slowly let your back fall into a sway & then arch it up again. Page 11

12 Not all pets are soft & cuddly. Some are slimy & cold but still lovable all the same, & needing us to take good care of them. Let s be a croaking frog, watching the puppy & cat play from the safety of his pond. Frog Yoga Pose Squatting with feet apart wide, become a frog. Bringing your arms inside your knees, stick your tongue out & pretend to catch a fly saying "r-r-r-r-i-b-b-i-t!". What cute pets you all make. I can t decide now whether I would prefer a puppy, cat or frog as a pet, they are just all so lovable! Let s have some fun now using my hula hoop. Activity with prop Hula Hoop: Either repeat the activity from last week, or if you d like to try a new one, place the hula hoop flat lying down on the floor. Encourage the children to either crawl or jump into the centre of the hoop (one at a time), then jump or crawl back out. Do this for the length of one upbeat song. Page 12

13 Meditation/Cool Down: Have the children sit down whilst you act out being the animals in the song Creatures of the Rain & Sun & encourage them to become some of the animals too. Namaste as you bow to the group & finish. Page 13

Or as a 2 nd option: Hot Potato (Wiggles) (again, do the dance in front of them in a very animated way, encouraging them to do whatever actions they can Story incorporating poses: Let s pretend we are explorers, trekking through a dark, mysterious jungle, on the look-out for wild animals that we can capture on film for our photo album. I can hear a roar, look, it s the king of the jungle welcoming us to his home. Page 14

15 Lion Yoga Pose Sit on your legs in such a way, that your bottom is resting on your calf muscles. Place your hands in front of you on the floor. Stick out the tongue as much as you can & breathe out with force, at the same time make a roaring sound. That is, I hope his roaring is a welcome, it sounds very fierce! Oh, I know now, he is saying Wake up to his neighbour the Cobra! We have visitors, wake up to smile for their cameras! Cobra Yoga Pose Lie on your stomach down on the floor. Hands should be placed by your chest. Using your upper body, push upwards with your hands stretching to look upwards. Now hissssss. Page 15 Let s jump up off the floor of the jungle into a tree, to escape the slimy snake. He might be friendly, but I don t want to step on him by accident! Oh look who is swinging in the trees. It s the comical monkeys!! They make me laugh with their chattering, excited antics!!

16 Monkey Yoga Pose Sit on your bottom with legs crossed. Sit up tall with your shoulders. Place one strong monkey fist in front of your belly & reach your other strong monkey arm up in the sky. Take a big breath in & move your upper hand to your belly as you let out a big, quick, powerful monkey breath. HA! Now switch. HA! HA! Let s pretend to be a wild animal (lion, cobra or monkey, or any other that you can think of) crawling or walking through this hula hoop. Activity with prop Hula Hoop: Do either or both of the two hula hoop activities already done have the children crawl or walk through the hula hoop when held upright, or have them crawl or jump or into then out of a hula hoop lying flat on the floor. Or as a 2 nd option: Hot Potato (Wiggles) (again, do the dance in front of them in a very animated way, encouraging them to do whatever actions they can Story incorporating poses: Can you feel the days getting warmer, as we head into summer? Let s pretend that today is one of those glorious summer days. The sun is shining, the sky is so blue, & we are getting ready to go outside with our sun hats on, sunscreen applied, & sunglasses on. I wonder Page 18

19 who else is out enjoying the weather. Look, it s a gorgeous ladybug! Let s be the cute little ladybug curled up with her bright red & black shell. Ladybug Yoga Pose Kneel down & bend forward with your belly on your knees. Rest your arms by your sides & your head on the ground. Remember, ladybugs don t make any sound at all. Take three slow, deep breaths. Another creature that loves a sunny day is a lizard! They love to bask in the sun to warm up their bodies. Let s become a blue tongue lizard together now. Lizard Yoga Pose Stay kneeling down & place your hands on the ground underneath your shoulders. Stretch your legs straight behind you & balance on Page 19

20 your toes. Now stick out your tongue like a lizard. Can you stay in your lizard pose for the count of five? After being out in the sun for a while, the one thing I think you d be wanting to see the most, would be a big, shady, leafy tree. Let s pretend we are in our gardens now, & standing under a shady tree. Tree Yoga Pose Stand straight & place one leg either on the other, or just bend one knee, keeping other leg straight with both feet on the floor. Slowly raise up your hands, taking a deep breath in as you do so. Hold the position as long as you can, then as you lower your hands breathe out. If the children are unable to stand, have them sit & place their hands over the heads, encouraging them to take a deep breath in when raising their hands, then noisy breath out when lowering. They will enjoy watching & hearing you do the breathing & should try to copy after a few times. Page 20

21 Now let s have some fun just like we would if we were really outside, & play with this colourful ball. Activity with prop Ball Have the children sit in a circle if that is possible, & simply roll a medium size ball gently to each one in turn. Encourage them to try to push it back, helping them if you need to, to perhaps even pushing it to their friends. Do this for the length of one upbeat song. Meditation/Cool Down: Have the children sit down whilst you act out being the animals in the song Creatures of the Rain & Sun & encourage them to become some of the animals too. Namaste as you bow to the group & finish. Page 21

Or as a 2 nd option: Hot Potato (Wiggles) (again, do the dance in front of them in a very animated way, encouraging them to do whatever actions they can Story incorporating poses: How did everyone get here today? Did you catch a train? How about a bus? Did you walk? Or perhaps you were lucky enough to be ridden on the back of mum or dad s bike? Let s pretend we are riding a bike now! Page 22

23 Bicycle Yoga Pose Lie flat on your back. Bend your knees up in the air, & start pedalling like you are riding on a bike. You could either sing or play the Pushbike song as you do the pose. I heard a lot of you say earlier that you came here by car. Let s pretend we are driving a car now. Don t forget your seatbelts & to work the pedals! Car Yoga Pose Sit with your legs stretched straight in front, back nice & tall & straight. Hold your arms in front like you are holding a steering wheel. Don t forget the car sound effects, brum, brum, brum. Hold for the count of 10, perhaps even seeing if the children can wiggle the legs forward to move their cars forward, then wiggle their legs backwards to move their cars back again. Page 23

24 I don t suppose anybody came here by boat today? Wouldn t that be cool!! Boat Yoga Pose Stay seated, this time lifting your straight legs up slightly to form a v shape. Try lifting your hands off the ground as well, if that s too tricky, just leave your hands on the ground to support yourself as you hold your legs steady. Play &/or sing the row your boat song for them as they go. That was great work, now it s time for some fun! Let s get some balls out. Activity with prop Balls Have the children sit in a circle (if possible), otherwise just around the room is fine. Roll the ball to them, but this time encourage them to use their feet to kick it back to you, or to each other. Help them so that they each get at least a couple of turns at having a turn. Do this for the length of one upbeat song. Page 24

Arch up the back completely, similar to the way a cat does, when it is angry. Now let out a miaow or a hiss like a cat. Slowly let your back fall into a sway & then arch it up again. Hello farm cat, what are you going to show us first? Your favourite farm animal? What is that? Oh of course, the one that produces your favourite treat milk! It s a cow! Let s pretend to be a cow now. Page 27 Cow Yoga Pose Cow pose is the opposite of cat pose. Start in your cat pose & now lets turn cats into cows. Drop your belly down towards the ground & lift your head up high to the sky. MOO!!

28 Look over there. I can see some beautiful birds on this farm. With great big tail feathers of beautiful turquoise colouring. They are peacocks! Let s become a peacock now with his stunning plumage. Peacock Yoga Pose To be a peacock kneel down & bend forward to glue your belly to your knees. Stretch your arms behind you & bring your hands together to make your peacock feathers. Breathe in & stretch your feathers up. Breathe out & bring your feathers down. Now let s have some more fun. Activity with prop Ball Have the children try to roll or kick the ball to each other. You start by rolling it to a child, then help them roll or kick to another, & so on. Bring along several balls so that a few are going at the same time, & there is no pressure if a particular child is unwilling to let their ball go for a few minutes. Do this for one upbeat song.
