Our professional faculty and high energy atmosphere provides complete and personalized dance training to both the recreational dancer as well as the serious student who is looking to train intensively. If you are a serious dancer looking to refine your technique, we offer a comprehensive summer training program for all levels through a weekly series of classes, Intensives, and Master Classes. Our summer program is open to all students from any studio or school. At SLA we support all that wish to improve. If you haven t taken class at SLA before we will help place you in the right level and the right style to achieve your summer goals. Each week features a different visiting guest artist. Dancers from all over New England come together to take part in this unique summer training opportunity. COLLEGE STUDENT AND ALUMNI DISCOUNTS SLA Alumni: Dancers who were students at Studio for the Living Arts Dance Complex when they graduated high school or college are eligible for class discounts of 30% tuition. Current College Students: College students are eligible for a 15% discount on classes. Please us your current student ID to receive discount. REGISTRATION is first-come, first served. Many popular classes fill before June so we recommend registering early to secure placement in class. For full classes, please us and we can recommend an alternate course. There is no registration fee for our 6 week Summer Session of classes. Your space in class is held/confirmed only once payment in full or deposit has been received. REFUNDS: Absence from summer classes/camps is non-refundable, non-transferrable. There are no refunds for registration fees, deposits, or tuition. Tuition is not prorated. Although we are unable to pro-rate tuition, students may take advantage of making up any missed classes with another class offered over the Summer Session. Please stop at the desk and inform the receptionist when you are making up a class. Please contact us at the studio LEVEL PLACEMENT All classes are taught with proper terminology, conditioning stretches for flexibility, body awareness for appropriate ages and levels, and creatively challenged in a positive and caring dance environment. We place all children in classes according to skill, ability and improvement, rather than age. Please note: Age reference is merely for new student enrollment until instructor has properly observed student s ability. Returning Students Our goal is to keep each class progressing together at a similar pace while paying attention to the slight mixed level that will naturally arise and change throughout the year. New Students: For dancers who come to us with experience at other studios or who have been absent from us for some time, we need to ask a few questions to familiarize ourselves with your skill level and capabilities. Once the initial placement is determined, the first class is then used as a trial. After the first class the teacher will make an assessment and advise if proper placement has been achieved or if a switch to another class is a better fit. CLASS LEVEL GUIDE: Level 1 Beginner: Basic fundamentals are introduced, including body alignment, vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet & arms. Levels 2-3 Advanced Beginner /intermediate Each level is structured to provide more advanced training as the student is ready. Levels 4-5 Inter. Advanced/Advanced These Inter. Adv. and Adv. levels are the culmination of study and hard work. Students should possess 5+ years of recent and consistent training.

7 SUMMER SURPRISE GUEST TEACHER MASTER CLASSES SUMMER SURPRISE DROP-IN MASTER CLASSES 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7, 8/14, 8/16 Summer Surprise is a community-wide series of master classes for dancers in New England area studios and it is the place to be for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to gain the experience of taking class with master instructors and choreographers in an intimate studio setting. Dancers from all over come together to take part in this unique summer training opportunity! Fees: $25 per student (Intermediate/InterAdv) $30 (Adv), per Master Class. JULY 10 BREA PERDUE SUMMER SURPRISE LYRICAL MASTER CLASS Brea has trained with and assisted some of the top teachers and choreographers in the country including Mia Michaels, Stacey Tookey, John Crutchman, Dee Caspary and Doug Caldwell at his Broadway Dance Center intensives. Touring with regional ballet companies, and performing with choreographer, Dan Karaty (N Sync, So You Think You Can Dance), Brea is well versed in all forms of dance. She has established a name for herself as a highly skilled dancer and choreographer, taking her own performances as well as her students to the next level. Brea can be seen in Disney hits such as Teen Beach Movie, High School Musical, and Shake it Up. She has danced in numerous commercials and industrials, appeared in the off-broadway show, Break The Floor" and was also a semi-finalist on Season 2 of FOX's hit television show, So You Think You Can Dance. In addition, Brea has performed in numerous parades and shows at Walt Disney World. Recently, Brea has joined Revel Dance Conventions faculty. Her unique choreography keeps Brea in high demand throughout the country where she teaches workshops and at dance intensives as well as choreographing for dance companies throughout the U.S. JULY 17, SKooJ SUMMER SURPRISE CONTEMPORARY /COMMERCIAL MASTER CLASS SKooJ CorE-O (Sarah-Katarina) has her present focus on Commercial/Theatrical Hip Hop and dance, yet she is strongly trained in various styles such as Musical Theater, Jazz, and Modern. SKooJ is a graduate of Dean College with a Degree in Dance and Business Administration. SKooJ is the Lead Artistic Director of the Boston-based Static Noyze Dance (World Of Dance:NYC/NJ Champions and Carnival NYC Members), Convention Teacher for Turn It Up Dance Challenge, National Adjudicator for various competitions, and Guest Choreographer for studios throughout the country. Her talents have been featured through her work created for the Boston Community Dance Project (BCDP), for the new HGTV series Spontaneous Construction, NESN, and recently on The Dr. Oz Show! SKooJ CorE-O entered the Music Video with choreographing for International Pop Artist Tamara Rodriguez, Pop/R&B Artist Erene, and Lucia Marie s House of Blues Tour! Other music video credits include Digital Love by Makio, Dance With You by Bad Rabbits ft. Clinton Sparks, and Static Noyze Dance s concept videos Dance You Off JULY 24 POLINA KIRILLOVA AND RAMÓN MARTÍNEZ SUMMER SURPRISE BALLROOM MASTER CLASS Ballroom is one of the hottest dance crazes to hit the U.S. You can choose to register a guest as your partner however no partner or experience necessary! Ramón Martínez Campos is a Ballroom and hip-hop dancer (he started breaking in the streets of México when he was 10 years old). He began performing with Free Soul, his original crew, and then years later became a member of Style and Soul Crew from Morelia, México. In 2012, he became certified in Arthur Murray International as a Professional Ballroom Dance Instructor. Campos performs and teaches both Breaking and Ballroom in Portland. Polina Kirillova is the owner of Ballroom Dance Portland. She started ballroom dancing at age 6 and she has participated in competitions throughout Ukraine and Russia in both Ballroom and Latin. She later moved to the United States where she continued to compete professionally in Ballroom and Latin before opening Ballroom Dance Portland. Understanding that every body is different- the way people stand, move and feel the music, Polina strives to understand this about the students and instructs them to be able bring out their ability to the highest possible level while making her lessons fun and enjoyable for everyone. She teaches all four disciplines (Ballroom, Latin, Smooth and Rhythm) from beginning to award-winning competitive level.

8 JULY 31 RORY FREEMAN SUMMER SURPRISE CONTEMPORARY MASTER CLASS Rory Freeman is currently touring with Travis Wall s Shaping Sound on the brand new show After The Curtain. He has toured with the company for the past 3 years across the nation as well as performing on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Most recently, he had the honor of performing in Sonya Tayeh s first full length show in New York City called You Still Call Me By Name. You may have seen him as a Featured Dancer on the hit television shows America s Got Talent Season 11. Rory has worked with some of the top music artists such as: Taylor Swift, Paula Abdul, Earth, Wind, & Fire, and Jack Wagner. Music video credits include: Taylor Swifts Shake it Off and Paula Abdul s Check Yourself. Rory is blessed to have been able to perform all over the world with the world renowned dance company, MOMIX. Before his career started he proudly earned his BFA in Modern Dance from SUNY Purchase (NY) in Rory is a part of the faculty and judges for various national conventions and competitions. Rory is also the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Move: The Initiative, a Dance Intensive based in Rhode Island. AUGUST 7: JBIZZ MASTER CLASSES SUMMER SURPRISE HIP-HOP MASTER CLASS J.Bizz is an in-demand choreographer, dancer, and musical artist. J.Bizz can be seen performing across the country. J.Bizz has trained and performed in numerous forms of dance. He specializes in hip hop, jazz funk, and pop/locking. He was best known from the group "I.T.M", performing in professional venues, such as the Celtics, Blue Man Group & Stomp. His dance career has lead him along side various artists, including Britney Spears. J.Bizz choreography is well known, and national award winning. His choreography can be seen across the country, as he is known, as a high demand choreographer. His pieces range from emotional and impactful, to dynamic and bold. J.Bizz's greatly also prides himself on the accomplishments of his students. They can be seen performing on Broadway, and doing commercial/television work. AUGUST 14, ANGEL ARMAS SUMMER SURPRISE JAZZ/LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY MASTER CLASS Angel is well known as the Choreographer for the reality TV series Dance Moms Miami, and he is also the Co-Owner of Stars Dance Studio in Miami, with Victor Smalley. Angel has been on staff at Top Dance Conventions and he has taught in some of the nation s top studios to include Broadway Dance Center, Millennium Dance Complex and Gotta Dance Atlanta. Many of his students from Stars Dance (such as Ricky Ubeda) have gone on to lead successful dance careers. Stars students have been accepted into the Martha Graham, Julliard Summer Programs, Joffrey Intensive Programs, The Ailey School, College Dance Programs at Pace and Purchase and Fox s hit show SYTYCD. AUGUST 16, LEE GUMBS SUMMER SURPRISE LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY MASTER CLASS Lee Gumbs started dancing at age 5 and by 7 he received scholarships for ballet & jazz classes. He went on to win numerous regional & national dance competitions. Lee started traveling solo at 15 to L.A., New York, Las Vegas & Virginia Beach to take advantage of scholarships he had won. At 16 he was the first boy chosen by Dance Spirit magazine as 1 of the top 3 cover models out of thousands of entries. Lee became an alumni of the Young Arts and attended Marymount Manhattan College in NYC. He has been a guest performer in multiple Nutcrackers and Galas. Lee has danced back up to sensation Gwen Stefani, he is a member of Rasta Thomas' Bad Boys of Dance touring numerous countries with the hit show Rock the and recently Romeo & Juliet. Lee has also had the opportunity to perform with the American contemporary company Shaping Sound. Be our Guest with Belle and her friends at this super fun camp that covers a combination of dance styles including ballet, jazz and creative movement. Our live Princess characters and faculty will bring fancy and imaginative dance and spellbinding crafts to the students. In addition to Belle, some of our visiting princesses include Frozen s Anna and Elsa, Tinker Bell, Cinderella, Moana, and Snow White. A different Princess will visit each week. Parents are invited to attend the last class of the session to see what dancers have learned! TROLLS ONE DAY CAMP AGES 3-8 / TUESDAY, JULY 10, 9AM-NOON Our Trolls Camp is for 3-8 year olds and dancers will be divided into groups based on age. Join us as we dance to the music of Trolls and show our true colors! We will incorporate dance technique and terminology, snack time, tumbling, and craft time. Parents and families are invited at 11:45am to watch the fun new dance moves we ve learned! MOANA ONE DAY CAMP AGES 3-8 / WEDNESDAY, JULY 18 9AM-NOON Aloha! Join us for a magical morning on a Hawaiian adventure of dance class, choreography, tumbling, and Hula dancing with leis and grass skirts. JULY 2, 9AM-2PM This 1 day Intensive provides pure Acro and Hip Hop training and choreography for boys and girls ages 7-teen. Dancers will be broken into ability and age appropriate groups. Acro work will include walkover variations, partner work, tricks, and back tumbling. Hip Hop will offer the students the opportunity to learn cutting edge choreography and the tools to unlock their own unique ability to freestyle. Please pack a nut free snack, lunch, and a drink. SASHA YAPPAROV SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE JULY 30 - AUGUST 3, 2018 This 2 level program is designed for students age 8 and up to further explore the beautiful world of ballet. Classes are held Monday-Friday 9:30am-noon for Levels 1+2 (Advanced Beginner), and 9:30am-3pm for Levels 3-5 Intermediate-Advanced Levels). A well-balanced daily schedule of classes will include Technique, Pre-Pointe / Pointe class, Variations, Choreography, Modern, Character, and dancer wellness. All dancers will participate in a final performance for friends and families on the last day of the Intensive. Faculty to include Sasha Yapparov, SLA Dance Complex ballet faculty, and guest teachers. Following the completion of your online registration, the Intensive Registration fee is due in the amount of $15 per student. A separate application/waiver will then be forwarded via for the Intensive Tuition payment which is made payable to Sasha Yapparov. 50% tuition deposit due to retain space in program: Balances in full are due by July 1, WEEK COURSE DESCRIPTIONS CLASSES BEGIN JULY 9th ABSOLUTE BEGINNER TAP Try something new this Summer! If you've always thought about trying a tap class but were nervous about jumping in, the Absolute Beginner classes are the perfect place to learn the basics. The classes are fun and dynamic within an encouraging and challenging atmosphere. This class is for students with little (Adv. Beg) or no tap dance experience. ACRO/TUMBLING CLASS Students learn a variety of skills including walkovers, flips, handsprings, aerials, and more. Additional focus is also placed on core strengthening exercises and increasing flexibility. Acro can be incorporated into dance, cheerleading and gymnastics. Our classes are taught by Certified teachers and we are Acrobatic Arts Certified.

9 BALLET/POINTE is essential to building a solid dance education. A classical form of dance which concentrates on barre, centre floor, proper body alignment, and technique. Pre-Pointe/Pointe work is available by teacher permission. Twice a week summer training is recommended for ballet levels 3-5. Pointe work is available by teacher permission. Pointe students must be enrolled in 2 ballet classes per week. COMBINATION CLASSES One of the oldest and most highly successful programs, children learn the discipline of ballet while developing a sense of rhythm and musicality through the basics of tap dance. COMMERCIAL JAZZ LEVEL 3/4 This intermediate level class will consist of weekly warm ups focusing on strong technique, across the floor jumps and turns, and dance combinations. Commercial jazz choreography is an edgier style of jazz that often incorporates sharp movement and floor work. Examples of commercial dance would be professional dance teams, music videos, and most of the numbers on SYTYCD. COMMERCIAL JAZZ LEVEL 4/5 HEELS CLASS FOR TEENS Commercial jazz is a stylized dance form is similar to styles seen in music videos for Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears. Class will begin with a warm up to be done in bare feet, preparing the body to later jump into a fierce commercial jazz combination done in heels. Heels will incorporate genres of jazz and funk and class is recommended for the intermediate advanced+ dancer age 14 and up. Class material uses mature music and movement quality. Footwear: Bring heels you feel reasonably comfortable walking in, they can be 1 inch character shoes, stilettos, Latin heels, boots, etc.. Feel free to bring a couple different pairs to try. CONTEMPORARY dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres, including modern, jazz, lyrical and ballet. dancer combines fluid dance movement and technique. HIP-HOP Our hip-hop is a fast moving, high energy style class that is taught to the latest music of today. Warm-up, strength, stretches, and isolation segments are followed by combinations and hip-hop choreography. Hip-Hop mixes Funk and Street dance styles that are commonly seen in music videos. No technical training needed! PULSE DANCE COMPANY AUDITIONS- JUNE 27, 2018 Pulse Dance is designed as a conservatory-type program that prepares students to become technically proficient dancers. The serves as a performance and competition group. The Pulse training program is for the student dancer who is interested in aggressively pursuing their own personal best. A competitive dancer may or may not be interested in becoming a professional dancer, but they are definitely interested in exploring their own capacity for developing their dancing ability to a higher degree. At Studio for the Living Arts Dance Complex, we offer exceptional instruction with a professional faculty, innovative and current choreography, limitless opportunities, and professional mentorship. Our competition dance experience is also offered at various levels of commitment. The limitations to your training and level of dancing are set by you, the dancer. The dancer s level of investment will determine their rate of advancement. The class is a preparation for an offsite Hip Hop music video shoot, with a professional videographer. The shoot will be held Monday, 8/20, location tba (i.e Downtown Portland location, etc.). A combination of teacher and student choreography will focus on transitions and use of space through the eye of the camera lens. Students will be able to post and share the finished video onto their social media accounts. Attendance is very important, and students must be able to attend the last class of the session prior to the shoot. VIDEO CLASS DATES: MONDAYS 8-8:30pm: 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6, 8/13, AND 8/20 for the VIDEO SHOOT) LYRICAL Class is designed for dancers looking to grow and challenge themselves with technique, style, and artistry. A song's lyrics are a driving force and key inspiration for the movement. A solid ballet-based technique is an essential component of this style of dance as is various other forms of jazz and modern dance. LEAPS, TURNS, TECHNIQUE Class is geared towards helping the highly motivated dancer improve on their technique and skills of leaps and turns. Class focuses on technique and progressions for turns & leaps as well as core strength and flexibility. MUSICAL THEATER TRIPLE THREAT Our popular and unique Triple Threat Musical Theater summer program will have students working with all aspects of Musical Theatre. Classes include voice, acting, reading scripts, studying scenes, and learning dance choreography to Broadway musicals. This GLEE-like class is a very popular and an amazingly fun multi-age/level program. No experience is necessary for this fun-filled and enriching course. STRETCH CLASS This multi-level stretch class for levels 2-5 will teach students how to increase flexibility and how to properly stretch to prevent injury. TAP Basic steps are introduced and turned into fun and challenging combinations. Emphasis will be placed on learning technique, timing, rhythm and syncopation.

This season we have tentatively scheduled the performances for Saturday, December 2 nd, at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. We host an 11am performance and a 3pm performance. students in levels 1-5 will be performing. Dancers from any studio are welcome to participate.
