ASH Pomline Demerit Guidelines 11 The demerit system is a method that establishes structure and discipline within the squad. It holds the member responsible for her/his actions and helps maintain a dedicated squad. The following are reasons for demerits and the consequences that will follow. Reasons: 1 demerit A member will receive one demerit if she/he arrives tardy to practice or a game, is not appropriately dressed and ready to practice on time, does not observe the no cell phone rule, does not observe the nail length rule, or does not observe the no jewelry rule. 2 demerits A member will receive two demerits if she/he is absent from practice or a game without either a written doctor s excuse or a note from another school sponsored activity leader PRIOR to the absence. If the member is absent from school for the entire day because of illness she/he is automatically excused, given the school receives a doctor s note. If the member is not picked up from event/game/practice within 15 minutes of end time, he/she will receive demerits. 3 demerits A member will receive demerits for inappropriate and/or disrespectful behavior at the sponsor s discretion. A member will also receive 3 demerits in the event that she/he does not sell the amount of season tickets required. Consequences: 5 demerits The accumulation of five demerits will result in a one-game suspension. Practices and all other Troyans activities (wearing uniform to school, travel with team, etc.) will still be required but the member will be benched at the next game. 8 demerits The accumulation of eight demerits will result in a second one-game suspension. Practices and all other Troyans activities (wearing uniform to school, travel with team, etc.) will still be required but the member will be benched at the next game. 10 demerits The accumulation of ten demerits will result in permanent suspension from the team. ** All demerits are accumulated and will not be erased from a member s record. At the start of a new school year all demerits from the previous year will be erased. Students who get 10 demerits are not eligible to tryout for Cheerleading or Danceline until one academic school year has passed. After one year suspension, the candidate may tryout for either team. **Note: The only excusable absences from practice or events are 1) illness (must have been absent from school for illness for the entire day if it is a school day) and 2) other school-sponsored event. The member MUST still bring a doctor s or school activity sponsor s note to the next practice and MUST also notify the sponsor ahead of time.

Alexandria Senior High Pom Squad Demerit System 12 Explanation: The purpose of pomline is to perform and cheer at all football games (home and away), home basketball games, and home and away playoff games as specified. Troyans are expected to act according to certain standards as they are considered a positive reflection and credit to Alexandria Senior High. Demerits will be given by the squad sponsor when deemed necessary. The demerit system is a method that establishes structure and discipline. It holds the member responsible for her actions and helps maintain a dedicated squad. Why we have demerit system: To set expectations for ourselves To teach one s responsibility to a group To help individuals realize consequences of their actions To help create a unified group Overview: Demerits will be calculated on a yearly basis. At the beginning of each year, each Troyan should be able to start over with a blank slate provided she has either made up demerits and/or fully realized the consequences of her actions/inactions which is subject to sponsor and/or administrative approval. Demerits will not carry over from one year to the next. Squad members and their parents will be informed by the sponsor every 4 ½ weeks with an account of the accumulated or demerit(s). Demerits will be given out as deemed necessary. Troyans will always be aware of how many demerits he/she has and why he/she has accumulated that number. After a Troyan has accumulated five (5) demerits, he/she will be placed on probation. Pomline members are allowed ten (10) demerits each. Upon receiving your tenth (10 th ) demerit, the Troyan will be considered for dismissal. The sponsor and/or school administration ultimately reserve the authority to make this decision. Please note that the rules that follow are general guidelines for all pomline members. Failure to comply with any of the following may result in the specified number of demerits and may at times require judgment calls to be made. These decisions will be left up to the sponsor and/or school administration. General Rules: Each Troyan is required by Alexandria Senior High to have and maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout the school year. In addition to the 2.5, the child s 2.5 cannot consist of more than 1 F. (Also, 2 Ds will be the equivalent to 1 F). If a Troyan falls below the required GPA, she will be placed on a probationary period until the next grading period or until proper documentation is shown to the sponsor; if her grades do not improve after the next two grading periods, she will be dismissed from the squad. Probation requires the squad member to attend all practices and games but will not be allowed to cheer. Each Troyan will respond to all sponsor s and faculty member s directions. The sponsor has a zero-tolerance policy for those who choose to disrespect and show disregard for those in authority. Troyans will respect each other. No bickering, arguing, cursing, or rude behavior will be tolerated. Each Troyan will follow Rapides Parish s alcohol and drug policy at ALL times. All Troyans will be expected to follow all Alexandria Senior High School and Rapides Parish rules and regulations.

If a Troyan is put in ISS or suspended, she will be put on probation for the next game. The Troyan will have to dress in full uniform, but will sit with the sponsor. No pictures or videos that include a Troyan involved in any questionable activity will be allowed on internet sites such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. If a web page or website is found to have inappropriate content, the Troyans will be apprehended as the sponsor and/or administration sees fits and will possibly be removed from the squad. Practice: Troyans will possibly have after school practices for performances and competition. Times and dates will vary due to holidays, meetings, etc. Members will be given practice date in advance. Squad members must be at school ½ day in order to be eligible to attend practices and games. Troyans must wear appropriate clothing to practices. Hair must be up and secured out of the face. No chewing gum. Cell phones will not be allowed during practice. This includes talking on a cell phone and text messaging!!! Troyans must be dressed and on time to practice. If a Troyan is more than 10 minutes late to practice, she will be given a demerit. Troyans must not leave practice before practice is over without permission from the sponsor. If member is not picked up from practice within 15 minutes of practice ending, the member will receive demerit. Games, Pep Rallies, Fundraisers, and other school designated activities: Troyans must be in correct/complete uniform when time to perform. Hair must be up and secured out in your face with a bow. No jewelry of ANY kind may be worn. This includes any type of body piercing. Troyans are not allowed to talk on a cell phone or text message during a game. Only at halftime can Troyans use cell phones. The sponsor will also notify the squad when it is time to call for a ride home. Troyans should ask permission to answer phone calls from their parents during any other portion of the game. No cursing or rude behavior will be tolerated to another Troyan or any other person present. Troyans will bring appropriate items upon arrival. (Pom-poms, raincoat, jacket) Each Troyan will show respect during the National Anthem and prayer. No excessive talking amongst Troyans during the game, timeouts, etc. Failure to comply with this rule may result in a demerit. Pay attention to the game and to the cheerleaders leading the crowd. Troyans should remain in assigned seating until the end of the game. Squad members will keep area clean or will not get to go on the field for the alma mater. Troyans will be present in the bleachers and in correct seating chart 2 minutes before half-time ends at football and basketball games. Uniforms: Uniforms are to be kept clean and in good condition. Alterations, cleanings, etc. are the responsibility of the member and must be done in a timely manner (1 week). Ill-fitting or stained (dirty) uniform is not a valid reason for absence from practices or games. Members will be required to attend functions and sit with the sponsor until repairs/cleanings are completed. Troyans are required to wear uniforms on game days (Fridays). Failure to wear uniform will result in demerits. 13

Troyans will not wear her uniform to a non-school function unless authorized by the sponsor. 14 Transportation: According to RPSB policy, all TROYANS will ride TO and FROM away games on the bus with the team and sponsors. Troyans wishing to ride with parents must have a parent request written and approved by the principal 24 hours in advance. Attendance: Attendance is required at all meetings, work sessions, camps, and practices. Doctor s excuses, relative/family funerals, and school functions will be excused, but the excuse must be presented to the sponsor within two (2) days of returning to school. The sponsor and/or school administration reserves the right to make exceptions to the attendance policy. TROYANS will be allowed three (3) unexcused absences per year. After the 3 rd unexcused absence, the Troyans will be dismissed from the squad. TROYANS will be dismissed immediately if they attended a required game not wearing uniform (not intending to be a TROYAN). Exceptions- Homecoming Court If a member is put in ISS or suspended on a game day, according to Alexandria Senior High school policy, she is not allowed to attend the game.

Alexandria Senior High Pomline Parent Code of Conduct Parents are one of the biggest and most important influences in a child s life. In order to have a successful team, it is vital that parents support, honor, and encourage all team endeavors through their words and actions. Please initial each statement, sign below, and include in your application packet. Your initials acknowledge your understanding of each guideline. Also, any person acting as a guardian (stepparent, grandparent, etc.) is also expected to behave in accordance with this policy at all team sponsored events. Because pomline will have year round events, parents will spend a great deal of time with this activity. Parents and Coaches must have a mutual respect towards each other at all times. Although differences of opinions may arise at times, it is imperative that the parents and coaches continue to be the adults in every situation. *A respectful discussion can occur once the event has ENDED and the team is dismissed. This is out of respect for the team members. Parents must recognize that the Coach has the final say as to whether or not your child will participate in performances with the team. Just as we expect our dancers to uphold good sportsmanship and character, so too must the parents representing our team. All parents/guardians or those persons acting on behalf of any pomline member (including but not limited to step-parents, grandparents, etc.) are expected to be mindful of their words and actions while representing Pomline at all games, performances, competitions, fundraisers, and any other team sponsored events. All practices are closed. We need to have the member s full attention during practices and can accomplish more without parents, siblings, and friends moving in and out of the practice area. If you need to speak with the coaches, please wait until the team has been dismissed from practice or the performing event. It is required that each pomline member and a parent/guardian be present for all parent meetings. Parents must be fully aware of all rules and regulations in the ASH Pomline Constitution and Demerit System should any team rules or expectations are violated. Parents are expected to be mindful and supportive of our behavior, practice, performance, competition, attendance, fund raiser, grade, and payment policies as outlined in the ASH Pomline Constitution. Warning: Pomline members may be penalized for extreme behavior exhibited by parent(s) up to and including removal from the team. I, the parent/guardian of, have read and understand all of the requirements as outlined in the ASH Troyans Constitution and Demerit System in order for my student to continue team participation as well as the ramifications if this contract is broken.
