6 Individual Event Specialist Rules: The Regional and National staff have made a distinction between a specialist and an allarounder competing only one, two, or three events (generally, but not always due to an injury). A specialist must attain a qualifying score on the event(s) and declare specialist status before competing her first event at state. Specific qualifying scores are: State Regionals Xcel minimum on qualifying event Level 7 & 8: minimum on qualifying event Level 9 & 10: minimum on qualifying event If a gymnast enters the championship as an all-arounder, she cannot compete as a specialist at regionals. A gymnast that registers for state in the all-around, but is unable to compete all four events at state, may touch out the remaining events and petition entry into regionals as an all-arounder only. This effectively eliminates the possibility of scratching the last event at state for the sole purpose of qualifying as a specialist to regionals. If an Individual Event Specialist wins an event at their Regional Championships they can no longer compete at Nationals. Mobility requirement for a specialist is 8.5/event for all levels. Regional and National Qualifiers All Level 8 Regional team members will receive a state leotard purchased for them (or reimbursed) by the State Committee. After being identified on the State Team, if your gymnast does not have a leotard, contact Sue Kane for more information. sukane@hotmail.com All Level 9 & 10 Easterns and National qualifiers will have a state leotard purchased for them (or reimbursed) by the State Committee. If your gymnast does not have a leotard, contact Sue Kane for more information. sukane@hotmail.com All national champions will receive a banner to be displayed in their gym from the State Committee. Any athlete Level 9 or 10, that attends a regional training camp and qualifies for Easterns or Nationals, will receive their entry fee paid for by the Regional Committee. 5

7 Ohio State Administrative Committee Responsibilities For Xcel Competitions Xcel rules are dictated by the National Committee. However, there are state s rights and these are areas of the rules in which each state can adjust to suit their population. Each point below is a state s right and how Ohio has voted: 1. Number of judges used for USA sanctioned competitions. Ohio will require two judges for all meets with permission to petition to use one judge for unusual weekends where judges are at a minimum and the meet is of low importance. Petitions should be made to Michelle Crane at crane8@icloud.com. 2. All Xcel divisions may be judged by professional, or jr. professional coach member. Only rated officials can be used for all Ohio meets. Judges must have a Level 8 rating or higher. 3. An affiliated judge can be used for a one-judge panel for Bronze, Silver and Gold divisions. In extenuating circumstances a meet director may request permission from the SAC to allow an affiliated one-judge panel for Platinum and Diamond divisions. The State Committee does not want affiliated judges to be assigned in a one judge panel unless unforeseen circumstances exist such as judge does not show. 4. Entry fees for championships: $70 entry fee for all Xcel levels at all championships. 5. Qualifying procedures to the championship. See chart on page four. 6. Individual awards for championship with a minimum as stated in R & P. We are following guidelines as they relate to the corresponding levels of the JO program. 7. Team awards awarded for each division (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond). Divisions will not be combined for team awards. At state championships, team awards will be offered only if numbers allow. 6

8 Competitive Team Guidelines In an effort to equalize the team competition at the Level 2,3,4,& 5 State Championships two divisions have been developed, American and National. The competition chairperson will use the following guidelines to determine the divisions. The following are strictly guidelines and the final decision will be made by the State Committee with the guidance of the competition chairperson. 1. On the meet entry deadline date, the number of entries for each team will be determined. 2. The teams will be listed in order from the largest team to the smallest team. 3. First step is to look for any natural breaks in the size of the teams e.g., teams with nine or more athletes, next largest team is seven athletes. 4. Second step is to try to balance the divisions with the number of teams competing in each division. NOTE: balance is not as important as making the competition make fair sense. The largest teams will be in the National division and the remaining teams will be in the American division. 5. While the threshold for the National division will vary, it will never be less than seven athletes. Teams with six or less athletes will automatically be in the American division. 6. There has to be at least five teams in each American & National division in order for there to be two divisions. 7

9 Competitive Team Guidelines (Continued) LEVEL AMERICAN NATIONAL 2/3/4 Team Score (3) Team Score (5) 5/Xcel Team Score (3) Team Score (3) Above stated information could change based upon entries received for each competition. Strictly a guideline. Final decisions are made by competition chairperson with state committee approval. Please note American division teams have the option to enter the National division of competition if they choose. This must be designated on the entry form by the appropriate due date. If not designated as such meet director will assume the team is competing in the American division. Please note that American and National divisions are decided on the deadline date. You will not be able to switch to the American division from the National division after the deadline; even if there are scratches on your team that drop you below the threshold. 30 Name of Gym Coach s Name Events USAG # Phone: Please this form to: odgcoach@aol.com or Mail to: Dawn Toussaint 4403 Logan Way Youngstown, Ohio Tear along line and return to address above Coaches, In an effort to raise the level of gymnastics in Ohio to compete amongst the best in our region and nation, we are looking for volunteer coaches to share their knowledge with others in our state. We are looking for some established coaches to mentor developing coaches in Ohio. If you would be willing to allow a coach to come to your gym and bring 1-2 gymnasts to observe & learn, we would appreciate you completing this form so that the information could be placed on the Ohio USAG website. Coaches would then contact you directly or coaches could contact me to assist in contacting gyms. The Ohio USAG is recommending that the number of visits be limited to 2 from the same gym. This way we hope that our endeavors will not wear out any of our volunteer coaches. We also envision, if permission is given, that you consider them be allowed to bring 1 or 2 gymnasts so that perhaps they could spot them or work drills with their own gymnast along side some of Ohio s best. Coaches requesting a mentor: Please be aware that you are a guest in their gym. Please follow their rules. We recommend that gyms offer no more than two visits per month from a visiting gym. Realizing that some gyms may have numerous requests, please be respectful when they are not able to accommodate your visit. We are so excited to offer this to our clubs in Ohio. Thank You! 29
