23 Daily Dance Dialogues Friday, January 31, 12 :30 13 :30 Sports science and Dance training by Patrick Rump, Brian Maloney, Stefanie Arndt. Film by Nigel Wattis Patrick Rump is a physiotherapist specialized in dance. He is a Sports Scientist on staff at the Royal Ballet in London as well as guest professor for the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. Brian Maloney is a former soloist of the Royal Ballet who has recently joined forces with Patrick Rump. We are an interdisciplinary team of sports scientists and ballet coaches who apply the advances of sports science and medicine to the demands of the 21st Century dancer. We offer specifically designed training which focuses on rehabilitation, injury prevention and performance enhancement which is based on an in-depth Individual Assessment. This tests strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, co-ordination and balance. If a dancer becomes injured we then have a pre-injury reference point to work towards. Importantly, risk factors which might not have previously been identified may also become apparent through the Assessment and addressed at an early stage, as well as areas a dancer might wish to improve. This form of Assessment, its analysis and recommendations, is also of inestimable value to the young student with a still-developing body. Post-Assessment the dancer at any level of development is provided with a very structured regime of training designed around individual needs and requirements. The presentation will include a film on the subject directed by Nigel Wattis. Alina Cojocaru s Testimonial, former Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet and currently Leading Principal Dancer with the English National Ballet, Prix de Lausanne prize winner in 'My return to Giselle and to dance in 2008 after a major injury would have taken so much longer if I had not found Patrick's training. I wish I had found it much earlier in my life when I was a student. Now it gives me every dancer's dream to have the strength and control to lose oneself in the dance. My control and freedom comes from 50% ballet training and 50% sports science training and I could not do one without the other' PRIX DE LAUSANNE 42 nd COMPETITION

27 Sponsors, Patrons and Partners The Loterie Romande is delighted, through its Vaud distribution body, to support the Prix de Lausanne, which will be held from 26th January to 1st February Let us remember that for more than 75 years, the Loterie Romande has been redistributing its entire profits for the good of the French-Swiss community to the tune of about 200 million francs a year. Hence, more than Fr. 500,000.- a day are redistributed in French-speaking Switzerland to support public utility projects in areas as diverse as culture, social assistance, the environment, research, training and sport. The Loterie Romande has provided significant financial support to our competition for many years. The Leenaards Foundation is proud to be able to look back over more than fifteen years of supporting the Prix de Lausanne and in more general terms over its ongoing contribution to the development of dance and the choreographic art at the highest level. Now a major event in the dance world, this competition also promotes the cultural reputation of the Lake Geneva region worldwide. Both demanding and prestigious by nature, the Prix de Lausanne deserves the fervent loyalty of the public and justifies the consistent backing of our Foundation. Created in 1980 due to the generosity of Antoine and Rosy Leenaards, the Leenaards Foundation is active in the cantons of Vaud and Geneva. Its mission is to serve the public interest in a philanthropic spirit and it grants support in the form of patronage for a variety of projects demonstrating excellence in the social, scientific and cultural fields. In terms of culture, the Foundation is active on behalf of institutions, artists and public events. While the forms of support vary, they all meet the criteria of high quality and general interest established by the founders. Honoured to be helping youthful talents bloom and express themselves, the Leenaards Foundation is delighted to witness once again this gathering of the finest talents of their generation.
