Rosedale Middle School CHEER SQUAD RULES & REGULATIONS OUR MISSION Represent our school as positive role models. Develop School and Community Spirit. Support RMS teams by attending games. Promoting school spirit and positive crowd participation. To serve as school ambassadors, provide service and hospitality when and where we are needed. Perform at school events in local competitions. Wear our uniform as proud members of the Rosedale Middle School Bulldog Cheer Squad! Remember, everything you do and say reflects on your team and your school. This team will be what we all make of it! So let s make it FUN! Congratulations on becoming a member of the RMS Cheer Team! We will start summer practice soon. Have a great summer! GO BULLDOGS!!! 1

1. ELIGIBILITY: See the Tryout/GPA form 2. PRACTICE: Practice during the school year is MANDATORY! Practice will start during summer as well as attending summer camp. When school starts, practice is held 2 days a week, Tuesday & Thursday from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at Rosedale Middle School and is MANDATORY work schedules, doctor appointments, haircuts, homework, and life in general must be planned around cheer schedules. During competition season, practice time may increase and be added on a Wednesday and/or Friday Coach or Advisor must be given 24 hour notice by parent if team member is unable to attend practice/event. A doctor s note must be presented for excused absences. Transportation to and from practice/event is the responsibility of the team member and parent. Summer practice: Begins in July and will continue through camp. Practice resumes the 2 nd week of school. This training is for you!!! To benefit yourself and the team! You will learn and perfect cheer and dance technique, and begin stunt training. We understand that this is vacation time, but please make your best effort to attend all scheduled training sessions. Allowances will be made for things such as illness, vacation, emergency medical/dental appointments, and bereavement. It is the parent s responsibility to contact the coach and/or advisor(s) prior to the missed practice or event. (Please do not contact the school. Phone numbers and addresses will be provided). ABSOLUTELY NO GUM! RMS does not allow gum chewing at school. Cheer Squad members are not allowed to chew gum during practice or at any event. (It is cause for penalty in competition, miscounted steps for dance/cheer, danger in stunting, and looks sloppy). RMS gives referrals for gum chewing at school. The same rules apply for cheer. Dress to work out! Practice wear and cheer shoes are to be worn at all practices. No jewelry, as they can cause injury during stunts. Always wear your hair up in a high ponytail. NO EXCEPTIONS! SAFETY: Is your responsibility as well as that of the coach and advisor(s). We will be spending time learning stunt technique and safety. Example: No stunting on hard surfaces! (Grass or mats only) Always stretch & warm up your muscles before practice or performance. We utilize the AACCA Cheerleading Safety Guidelines (for High School Age Level and Younger) Communication is the key to a successful cheer experience!! Parents/cheerleaders will receive , text, handouts, posts on Facebook and sometimes phone calls. Please understand that the information passed on is of importance to both parents and cheer team members. This communication will inform you of financial requirements, practice, fundraising events, performances, and other team activities. Please check your regularly, ask your cheerleader about any handouts, and return any phone calls from advisor or coach. We appreciate your cooperation. You will be receiving a team phone list very soon. 2

3. PERFORMANCES: Attendance is MANDATORY! RMS Cheer Team will cheer for volleyball and basketball games, school rallies, and other school events. RMS Cheer is also a competitive cheer team. Competition begins January through May. This past year we attended four competitions; Aloha Spirit Cali Finale & Stockton, Cheersport, and Jamz. A calendar with performance dates will be sent out in as soon as competition information becomes available. Please understand that competitions are MANDATORY. Missed competitions may result in being dismissed from the team. Be on time! Team members are expected to arrive at the designated event on time as specified by the Coach/Advisor(s). Please do not leave early! Any member late or absent from the practice prior to the event will not be performing, unless excused by coach/advisor(s) Transportation: Is the responsibility of the team member and their parents. You will be receiving a phone list of the entire team, including coach and advisors, should you ever need a ride. Please don t hesitate to call a team member or cheer staff member if you have a transportation issue. We are a team and we are here to help! Notice of absence: From any event should be given at least 24 hours in advance to the coach or advisor(s). This is the responsibility of the parent(s). We understand that emergencies happen and 24-hour notice isn t always an option. In these remote cases, a phone call to the coach and/or advisor from a parent will suffice. (see attendance guidelines) Hair: Team members will wear hair and makeup as designated by coach and advisor(s) to all events. Hair will be decided upon the week prior to the performance. Generally, hair is worn in a high ponytail; all loose hair pinned and sprayed back with a designated bow. You will be provided with a bow. NO FLYAWAYS! (No exceptions) 4. CHEERLEADING ACTIVITIES Each member is expected to cheer at a minimum of 1 game per week for Volleyball (Fall Sport) and 1 day for Basketball ( Girls and Boys Varsity winter sport). Each cheerleader will be assigned a game as is expected to arrive on time, ready to cheer for the team. The cheerleader is expected to be in full uniform with hair in high pony tail with bow. If you are unable to attend the assigned Volleyball or Basketball game, you must make up that game. The NO CELL PHONE rule will be in affect during these events. 5. UNIFORM Formal Uniform: Consists of: Top (bodysuit), skirt, capris, no show socks, cheer shoes, bow. Please wear the exact uniform designated by the coach/advisor(s). To do otherwise makes us look less like a TEAM! Coach decides on which uniform to wear to a given event, when the formal uniform is not required. Remember, we are a TEAM and we need to look like a TEAM. (Right down to the bow in our hair)! There are NO REFUNDS on uniforms. Practice Wear: Consists of: 1 pair of Nike Pro shorts- black, 1 pair Nike Pro Capris-Black, 1- Nike Pro Hypercool Tank- Light Photo Blue, 1- Nike Pro Hypercool Tank- volt green. The above are to be ordered by individual. Nfinity Titan White cheer shoes. Practice bows will be provided to each cheerleader. Practice wear is to be worn at all practices. Hair should be worn in high ponytail with specific bow. 3

School Apparel: The following will be ordered at uniform fitting: Team Jersey s for Monday and Team shirt for Fridays. Hair/Make-up: Team members will wear hair and makeup as designated by coach and advisor(s) to all events. Hair will be decided upon the week prior to the performance. Generally, hair is worn in a high ponytail; all loose hair pinned and sprayed back with a designated bow. You will be provided with a bow. NO FLYAWAYS! (No exceptions) 6. CODE OF CONDUCT: We must all live by the Golden Rule. Team members are expected to treat one another with RESPECT! That means teammates, coaches, advisors, parents, and competitors! Remember, your coach and advisors are team members too. We all have the same responsibility to be good citizens! RESPECT YOURSELF, YOUR SCHOOL & YOUR TEAM No foul or inappropriate language. Any member who displays disrespectful, disruptive or uncooperative behavior, PDA s (public displays of affection), or poor sportsmanship will face discipline (including suspension or dismissal). The team sits together at all times. Parents, friends, & boyfriends should sit away from the team. Please no contact during games or competitions. THANKS! NO CELL PHONE USE! Pay attention! Team members may not use cell phones or electrical devices during cheer practice or cheer events. (This includes texting, ipod use, etc.) Cell phones may be used to contact parents after practice or event, but must be used off the gym floor or field and away from spectators view. Internet Use: If an RMS Cheerleader uses social media including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or any or web page, they must exercise proper decorum. RMS Cheerleaders must not use inappropriate language or photographs, or bully others online. RMS cheerleaders are school spirit leaders & must conduct themselves accordingly. Attendance is mandatory! Unexcused absences will not be tolerated! Roll will be taken by the coach, at practice and assigned events. Only the coach or advisors may excuse cheerleaders from meeting their schedules due to illness. A doctor s note is required for practice excusal. (Please do not call RMS to excuse absences). A cheerleader participating in other activities should be aware that outside activities do not constitute an excused absence. For example, soccer, club cheer, dance, hair appointments, orthodontist appointments, etc. should be scheduled at a time that does not interfere with your commitment to be at practice or scheduled events. (You will be given a monthly calendar, game and competition schedules, well in advance). Other than illness or emergency, there should be no issue requiring an RMS cheerleader to miss any scheduled cheer activity. RMS Cheer Team Attendance Guidelines: 3 lates = 1 unexcused absence 2 unexcused absences - action (probation, event suspension) 3 unexcused absences - action (dismissal ~ no exceptions) Allowances will be made for religious reasons and in the summer for scheduled vacations. Referrals: RMS policy states that a cheerleader must not receive any referrals. Disciplinary referrals are given for talking, gum chewing, attendance, etc. If you want to remain a cheerleader, please do not be tardy, chew gum, or talk in class. If you receive a referral, you may be dismissed from the team. The principal and the coach will make the final decision. ENTHUSIASM: 4

Is a very important requirement for a cheerleader. Together, we hope the enthusiasm you have already displayed at tryouts will get stronger and become a natural occurrence. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year. Always bring your enthusiasm & spirit! Grade Point Average of 2.0 must be maintained at all times. We will be following your GPA to ensure your academic eligibility. Being a cheerleader is a privilege. Our school expects us to represent it to the best of our abilities. Let s keep those grades high! When report cards are issued, if grades are below the required 2.0 GPA, the team member will be put on academic suspension, (no practice, performance, no competition, etc). He or she will have until the next 4-week progress report to meet the 2.0 GPA requirements. If the GPA is not brought up to 2.0, the team member will be permanently dismissed from the team. If the team member is successful and raises the GPA to the acceptable 2.0, they may resume cheerleading activities. If GPA is not maintained at any other report card issuance, the team member will be permanently dismissed without benefit of the academic suspension, which can be used only one time. 7. MEMBERSHIP: Acceptance to the cheer team is for 1 year. If eligible, team members must tryout each year with other prospective applicants. Dues are $45 per month beginning in July and ending in May, and are due on the 1 st of each month. This pays for the coach for the months specified, competition fees, cheer music, team activities, gym rental, team awards, coaches gifts, end of year party (if enough money is left), etc. Fundraising is OPTIONAL. We are making it available to any and all of you who want to defray the high cost of the cheer program. We welcome and require parent involvement. We urge you to join in fundraising when you can and we understand if you choose not to. It s your call. We re just trying to help. All monies raised are tracked per team member and general fund and will be reported upon request. Individual fundraising credits will be applied against uniform and/or tuition. Financial Responsibilities: It is the sole responsibility of the cheer parent/guardian to purchase the required team uniforms. Rosedale Middle School or the PTC currently does not cover any fees or expenses with regard to the cheer program. Once your uniform has been ordered, it cannot be cancelled or returned. These are cut to order per your cheerleader s precise measurement. The entire purchase amount is due and payable prior to any uniform being delivered. As well, all forms must be signed and returned before any uniform is ordered or issued. If a cheerleader quits the team for any reason, or is dismissed due to academic or behavioral issues outlined in this document, the parent is responsible for the entire cost of the uniform. No exceptions! Photography: We encourage parents to take digital photos and video of our team at practice and events. Some may be posted on Facebook, newspaper, or yearbook. 8. COMPLAINTS: If you have any problems or complaints please come to the team moms/advisors instead of Coach Desmond or Coach Mel. This way we can go over the problem and set up a time for you to meet with the coaches. Also if your child is going to be absent from a practice for any reason you may also contact the team moms and we will let the coaches know. We want to make the practices and year a great one and communication is the key. 5

Due to high cost of the cheer program, we will offer fundraisers to help offset the expense. These fundraisers are optional with the exception of group fundraisers in which funds are raised and used for the team, not just the individual. Fundraising will be explained in greater detail upon making the team. These are estimated prices and are subject to change You will be notified of actual prices when uniforms are ordered. 6

Signed acknowledgement: My cheerleader and I have read the Rosedale Middle School Cheerleading Rules and Regulations. We understand and agree to accept the responsibility of this one-year commitment, if selected. We have received an estimated price sheet and fully understand the financial responsibility. We understand that, as in any physical activity, there is always the risk and possibility of accidental injury. We understand this risk and have signed the Voluntary Activities Participation Form, which is an acknowledgment and assumption of potential risk. If selected, we understand that a cheerleader s primary function and responsibility is to promote school spirit and provide the means necessary to make his or her team succeed. Any events, activities, or competitions outside of school grounds are secondary to school functions and will be decided on by the Coach and/or Advisor(s). We understand the Rosedale Middle School Administration is fully confident in the qualifications of the Coach(s) and Advisor(s) and expects the participants of this program to respect their authority as any staff member. We further understand that the Advisor(s) are volunteers and are doing this job freely and without compensation. We understand that these volunteers will need parental help on occasion, as well. We understand the primary responsibility of the coach is to supervise practices, choreograph routines and keep the cheerleading squad safe and in complete order at all times. We understand the primary responsibility of the Advisor(s) is team management and organization, supervision of meetings, and events; provide parental communication and support; organize fundraisers; order uniforms and other necessary equipment; collect and disburse moneys as appropriate; and dispense an accounting of all financial matters with relation to the squad. We understand that a cheerleader is selected to serve in a leadership role at Rosedale Middle School. We understand that with this position comes the responsibility of conducting oneself in a positive manner and be a role model for other students and observers. We are aware that participation in the cheerleading program is totally voluntary. We also understand that being selected, as a Rosedale Middle School Cheerleader is a privilege and that we re in complete agreement and acceptance of the aforementioned Rosedale Middle School Cheerleading Rules and Regulations. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please sign & return to your cheer advisors. I have read and agree to the terms of my RMS Cheer Team membership: Team member signature: Parent Signature: 7
