2014 Foot of the Charles This year s Foot of the Charles was held on November 15th for the Women s team. While it may have been a little bit chilly, that didn t stop the Eagles from racing well. In the largest margin of the day, BC s Varsity Four took first place by 56 seconds. BC s Novice 8 s A and B boats also did very well and finished just a few seconds apart in 3rd and 4th place. In one of the best finishes in program history, the Varsity 8 s took home 3rd place, only behind Northeastern and Harvard, and 14th. We are so excited for what they ve accomplished thus far and can t wait to see what s in store for the Spring! The Men s team also competed in Foot of the Charles this year, but on a different weekend! The team endured extremely cold temperatures (as you can probably tell from the photos) and fought head to head with other boats on the Charles. BC had multiple entries in the Varsity 4+ event and finished in 21st, 29th, and 32nd. The Novice 8+ s finished in 7th and 11th and the double in 3rd. What an end to the season!
Green Monster Freshmen off to a great start in first Novice Race of the year! Both the Women s and Men s Freshmen Teams represented Boston College well at their first Novice race of the year. Traveling up to Dartmouth, NH for the Green Monster Head Race, the women s team took home the coveted first place prize a HUGE ice cream sundae! Not only was this the fourth consecutive year that the Women s team has won this race the winner is decided by the combined times of the A and B boat entries but this year the women s team also took home 1st, 2nd, and 5th place. The pure depth of the Novice squad is was truly evident at this year s Green Monster Regatta. The Men s Novice Squad also rowed well and finished 8th and 16th in this year s race with tough opponents like Dartmouth, Harvard LWT, and Trinity. Both BC boats were also able to beat programs like Harvard HWT, UMASS, and MIT. Now that the Fall season is over, it is time to buckle down for Winter Training!
Where are they now? QUICK FACTS School: Arts & Sciences Major(s): Economics & Art History Favorite Dorm: Ignacio Port or Starboard: Starboard Where you re living now: Q. What are you doing now? A. Administrator, Researcher, and Cataloguer in the Old Master Paintings and Drawings Department at Sotheby s Auction House in New York. New York City Q. Hobbies after rowing? A. I coached rowing at Boston College for a brief time and then also at Williams College in Graduate School. Now, I have returned to playing tennis and have joined a co -ed Boston College alumni softball team in New York City. Q. What do you remember as your best day of practice/team activity? A. Cross Country Skiing for Winter Training! Q. Any advice for current/former rowers? A. Never lose touch with your teammates. They will be your dearest friends for life.
Where are they now? QUICK FACTS School: Arts & Sciences Major(s): Mathematics & Physics Favorite Dorm: Ignacio Port or Starboard: Starboard Where you re living now: Watertown, MA Q. What are you doing now? A. I ve been working for TripAdvisor since early 2010, as a Content Rep. I work from home, so it s been very conducive to continuing to work towards my aspirations as a rower. Q. Hobbies after rowing? A. I m still rowing, at Riverside Boat Club, where I ve been training since This summer, I made my first Senior National Team, and represented the U.S. in the Lightweight Men s Quad at the World Championships in Amsterdam, where we finished 7th. Q. What do you remember as your best day of practice/ team activity? A. I always enjoyed anything competitive, whether it be erging, on the water, or cross training. I do have an odd fondness for putting in long steady state miles as well, but I think the best times I had on the team usually involved a lot of competition and pulling hard. As for out of practice, it s hard to beat team breakfast at Lower. Q. Any advice for current/former rowers? A. Always keep working hard. It may seem cliché to say it, but rowing is one of the few sports that will directly reflect the amount of work you put towards it. It doesn t take an incredible amount of natural ability to go far. Just a strong work ethic, and the refusal to ever stop working towards your goals.

Women s Team Our annual ERG-A-THON is almost here and we re ready to put in some hard work on the ergs ONE MILLION METERS to be exact! Letters should be arriving in the mail very shortly, so please be on the lookout and consider supporting the team with a donation. This year s fundraising goal is to raise $90,000 by the end of 2014! Your contribution will help us build upon our recent progress and success with the purchase of a new Hudson Eight, which we ve been fortunate enough to demo this fall, support team travel to races and training trips, maintain our current fleet (and ergs!), and purchase new cox boxes and a new set of oars. You can donate by clicking the image below and selecting Other and writing in Women s Rowing. Thank you in advance for your support and GO EAGLES! Support our Teams! Men s Team This fall has proven to be one of the most successful seasons in program history with notable finishes at Head of the Charles and Head of the Fish. As we close out the Fall season and look towards the Spring, there is much to be done! This year the team will be taking its first Spring Break Training Trip to Jacksonville, FL and need your support to get there! As you all know, the Charles River is often frozen in the Spring and the weather extremely unpredictable. Traveling to Jacksonville would provide the team with better training weather and the ability to get more strokes in! Please consider making a donation to the team by clicking on the image above and selecting BC Men s Crew Club. Thank you in advance for your support and GO EAGLES! We re looking forward to a fast Spring season.
From the Coaches Launch Coach Amy Weatherby: Yuna BCVM s Newest Member The depth in our freshmen group this year is phenomenal. Both our A and B freshmen boats were within seconds of each other when we scrimmaged BU, at the Green Monster, and again at the Foot of the Charles. One highlight, and program first, was placing two crews in the top 4 at the Foot of the Charles in the Novice 8+ event. The success this fall with the freshmen squad is definitely something to be excited about. They will bring a lot of speed, depth, and enthusiasm to the upperclassmen group when they combine later this winter. Coach Brendan Mulvey: The men's team closed out the season at the Foot of the Charles. The team weathered the 27 degree temperatures and were able to hold their own against some of the top programs in the country. The results were highlighted by a 21st place finish by our "A" 4+ entry, 7th and 11th place finishes by our Freshman 8's, and a 3rd place finish by our Club 2x. This race concludes our Fall Season, and the team will prepare to move indoors and turning the focus towards the spring season.
