4 GENERAL PURPOSE WIRE ROPE 6x19 Class 6x37 Class COMPACTED CRANE ROPE Flex-X 6 Flex-X 9 6x19 classification ropes provide an outstanding balance between fatigue and wear resistance. They give excellent service with sheaves and drums of moderate size. 6x37 classification ropes are more flexible but less abrasion resistant than the 6x19 classification. Each strand contains multiple small diameter wires. As the number of wires increases, flexibility increases. Fiber core rope provides increased flexibility over IWRC. While the strength is lower than IWRC, the flexibility may be preferred in certain applications. Flex-X 6 users receive superior performance and increased service life in many applications compared to the ropes they had previously employed. When compared to conventional six strand ropes, Flex-X 6 ropes provide greater surface area and more steel per given diameter. This increases rope stability and strength. This results in a longer service life and less sheave and drum wear. Flex-X 9 features compacted strands and swaging for extra drum crushing resistance and increased stability. Its high density strands deliver extra strength and resistance to abrasion. Flex-X 9 is manufactured with a dual compaction process to produce a compact cross-section with minimum voids and greater surface area on outer wires that contact drums, sheaves and the rope during operation. The high-density compacted strands minimize nicking at strand-to-strand contact points. Flex-X 9 was specifically designed for boom hoist applications where drum crushing is a challenge. The smooth contact creates less interference, less metal loss and wire deformation. The increased surface area of Flex-X can be seen in the comparison of the contact points of a standard 6x26WS and Flex-X as shown. 5 ROTATION RESISTANT ROPE 19x7 8x19 19x19 Rotation resistant wire ropes are specially designed to resist spin and rotation while under load. SUPER FLEX-PAC (SFP) 35 SFP 35 is a rotation-resistant rope of high strength that can resist block twist in long falls. 35x7 19x19 EIP IWRC 19x7 EIP IWRC 8x19 EIP IWRC Rope Diameter Approximate Weight Per Foot Nominal Breaking Strength 3/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Strands: 35 Wires per strand: 7 Core: WSC Standard grade(s): 2160 N/mm2 Lay: Right Regular Finish: Bright Superior Rotation Resistance the SFP 35 rope is the most rotation resistant rope manufactured by WW. Due to its rotation resistant properties, SFP 35 may be used with a swivel in both single part and multipart reeving. High Strength. WW s compaction process provides a high strength rope which exceeds EEIP nominal breaking strength. Application. SFP 35 excels in crawler and truck-type crane load lines, and tower crane hoist ropes. Flexibility. SFP 35 s multiple strand construction provides increased flexibility which improves service life and high speed spooling. The compacted multiple strand construction also reduces sheave and drum abrasion and provides excellent resistance to drum crushing. 6 CASAR STARLIFT XTRA ENDURANCE DYFORM The latest high performance rotation-resistant rope designed and manufactured by CASAR Germany, a member of WireCo WorldGroup. 34LR 34XL 34MAX 35x7 CASAR Starlift XtraTM, the new high performance rotation resistant rope, was added to the CASAR product range to meet the highest Minimum Breaking Forces requested in the crane rope market. CASAR Starlift Xtra provides the user unique characteristics as a hoist rope. 34x7 Resistance to rotation Greatest resistance to rotation of all ropes in the rotation- resistant product range confirmed by Bridon s unique Twistcheck testing program. Resistance to bending fatigue Longer bend-fatigue life when compared with conventional rotation-resistant ropes confirmed by laboratory testing and extensive field experience. Resistance to crushing Excellent resistance to crushing and abrasion due to the rope s compact design and the Dyform strands recommended when multi-layer spooling is involved. Rotation Resistance (Non-Rotating) The balanced design of CASAR Starlift Xtra results in minimal torque under load, providing superior rotation resistance. Under a normal working load range, CASAR Starlift Xtra has virtually no tendency to rotate, making it ideal for both single-part and multi-part hoist systems and also for those involving long falls where rotation resistance is required. CASAR Starlift Xtra meets both the Category 1 requirements according to ASTM A1023 and the general guidance on the use of a swivel given in Annex A ISO Due to its superior rotation resistant properties, CASAR Starlift Xtra may be used with a swivel. Resistance to Wear The multi-strand design of CASAR Starlift Xtra combined with compacted strands and lang lay construction helps to maximize resistance to wear by greatly increasing wire and strand surface areas that contact sheaves and drums. Internally, the enhanced surfaces of the compacted strands help minimize strand-to-strand nicking between strand layers. This feature results in greater resistance to fatigue. Resistance to Crushing and Abrasion on Drums The characteristics of CASAR Starlift Xtra enhance its performance in multiple-layer spooling as well. The design of CASAR Starlift Xtra provides excellent resistance to both abrasion and scrubbing that occurs at kickover areas and crushing that occurs at the crossover points in multiple-layer drum spooling. The rope construction combined with the compacted strand design of CASAR Starlift Xtra results in a rope cross-section of very high density. These features provide increased resistance to drum-related wear. 19 GRABIQ CHAIN SLINGS A Simpler, Lighter, Chain Sling System A totally new way to fabricate chain slings GrabiQ is an exciting new family of alloy chain sling components. Instead of the old one component does one job fitting, GrabiQ combines in a single component up to three separate functions. Figure 1 features a GrabiQ Master Grab, which serves as the master link, connecting link for two legs of chain, and shortening hooks for each leg, all in one fitting. Using traditional fittings to construct the same sling would require 7 top-of-the- sling components, instead of just one. Some of the new GrabiQ fittings are equally well suited for use as top assembly connectors or hooks at the bottom of a sling, adding even more flexibility for riggers. While the specific Working Load Limits vary, depending on size, slings fabricated from grade 100 chain and fittings are about 25% stronger than their grade 80 counterparts. Converting from grade 80 to GrabiQ will especially benefit users who can make use of the additional WLL without the expense of purchasing larger chain and fittings. The percentage of strength increase varies depending on the size. The Working Load Limit (WLL) gain for 3/8 is about 24 percent, while the WLL gain for 9/32 is more than 30 percent. All other sizes fall somewhere in between. More flexibility in chain sling uses When each GrabiQ leg is furnished with a chain pocket, the chain sling can be used for a much wider variety of loads, often reducing the amount of rigging required on site. The chain pocket can be used to either shorten a leg or create a leg loop. Some fittings are equally well suited for use at the top or bottom of a chain sling. For example, the GrabiQ C-Grab can be used at a top of the sling or at the bottom of the sling as an adjustable sliding choker. Quality standards: Grade 100 GrabiQ alloy steel chain and chain sling components are manufactured and tested in accordance with ASTM A973, A952, and A907 material standards. GrabiQ chain and components meet or exceed the safety standards as prescribed by ASME B30.9 & B30.10, and OSHA alloy steel chain sling regulations. All chain and every single component is proof- loaded to 2.5 times the Working Load Limit. The Swedish plants manufacturing GrabiQ products are certified to ISO 9001/ ISO 9002 Quality Standards. Gunnebo Lifting s quality management covers all aspects of production from raw material to delivered product. Fewer Components means less weight Most of the time, GrabiQ slings will be lighter than their grade 80 counterparts. Fewer components means less weight. Also, because grade 100 has a lifting capacity that is usually 25% higher than its grade 80 counterpart, the ratio of strength-toweight is greater, offering additional weight savings with GrabiQ. 36 Nelson Wire Rope Corporation tel: fax: sales@nelsonwirerope.com Nelson Wire Rope Corporation tel: fax: sales@nelsonwirerope.com 37

Because the load-bearing fibers never come in contact with the load, they are protected from cuts, abrasions and ultraviolet degradation. Each sling has a tough, resilient tag for quick and easy identification. Super Slinger can be 15 times lighter than steel. Using Super Slingers can reduce the amount of manpower needed for the job, as well as the hours it takes to do the lift. A SS-3000 sling has a Vertical capacity of 300,000 lbs, and at a 60 foot length the sling would weigh 320 lbs. To reach the same capacity in wire rope the slings would have to be 4-1/8" diameter would weigh 2000 lbs. That means the Super Slingers weigh only 16% of what the wire rope sling would weigh! Advantages: Reduce cost with less total rigging weight Easy handling and storage Reduce risk of back and hand injuries Cover abrasion will not reduce capacity Provides a strong grip on loads Provides a tighter choke with an easier release Capacities are color coded Armour Super Slinger are made with a heavy duty nylon cordura cover for maximum protection, and a red internal jacket for easy inspection. Armour Super Slingers are RFID enabled to allow for fast and accurate sling identification.
