1 SKILLS ASSESSMENT CHECKLIST - Tree Canopy Access The PACI tree climbing course is intended to enable a person to work in the tree canopy using ropes and rope suspension equipment. Competency in this document indicates that the student can conduct a risk assessment, access the tree canopy and complete a work task under operational conditions. Training must be conducted as outlined in this document. When you have completed the course, an assessment verification (AV) form and course feedback questionnaire must be mailed to PACI for processing. Training plan Nominal duration: =. days ( hours) Typical sequence of training: Day.00am pm -Review exams (given as homework before the course) -Workplace Health & Safety + Duty of Care -Risk assessments -Equipment selection and care -Knot tying, fitting and adjusting a harness -Methods of accessing the tree canopy (deploying ropes up in the tree) -Tree climbing techniques (vertical mobility skills) -Work positioning methods (ie ways to get in a comfortable and balanced position at height) -Operating tools of trade at height (eg using a chainsaw to cut target branches for tree surgeons) Day.00am pm -Rescue techniques -Manoeuvring / swinging cut branches to avoid damage to property (for tree surgeons) -Mobility at height / using bosuns chairs (for botanists and researchers) -Further practice -Complete a work task at height Day.00am start (half-day.00am - noon) -Revision of techniques -Final assessment (competent or not yet competent) -Re tests (if required) -Complete paperwork Daily training schedule is typically am.00pm, but may vary according to student performance. Finish times may therefore vary depending on how students are coping with the skills to be learnt. Units are not assessed individually; they are grouped together (holistically) for assessment purposes. Install and accurately position a solid & reliable anchor system to enable initial patient access and extrication. Evacuate a person to safe ground using an assisted abseil procedure.
