This information to be read and kept for the lifetime of the product in conjunction with the Lyon General User Instructions and the specific user instructions for each component. All users must have appropriate training, knowledge and experience of casualty care and work and rescue at height, or be working under the direct supervision of such a person. Quality assurance Quality management system assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO Certification All components CE marked - see component user instructions for more information. Warning Not for general load lifting operations. Not for use in an explosive atmosphere. Working Load Limit (WLL) The working load limit of the Pick Off Rescue Kit is one person in most circumstances. In the case of snatch rescue, the Pick Off Rescue Kit can be used for up to two persons, this is provided that the rescuer is on the strict understanding that there must be no dynamic forces. The I D is certified according to the standard EN 341 Type A Self-braking Descender for single rope and EN Type C Rope Adjustment Device. For static, semi-static (EN 1891 type A) or dynamic (EN 892) rope (of kernmantle construction) of diameters mm: Nomenclature of parts 1. OK TRIACT connector 2. RESCUE pulley 3. Black hauling rope 4. PRO TRAXION Sm D connector 6. I D 7. Orange rescue rope 8. BASIC ascender 2

Limitations Maximum descent distance of the I D is 200 m The mormal working load of the I D is kg, in accordance with EN 341 Type A. However, in exceptional cases, for example accompanied descents, the maximum working load indicated by the standard EN 341 may be insufficient. Laboratory tests have shown that, with precautions taken in use (no impact force may occur), the I D can be used with a load of up to 250 kg. Due to the nature of this product it is not possible to make it personal issue. Use This Pick Off Rescue Kit is for use in rescuing a casualty who has fallen onto their guided type fall arrester, energy absorbing lanyard or work positioning lanyard. The hauling section can be rigged either way up, to give a 2:1 or 3:1 hauling system or change the direction of pull. 2:1 3

The following user instructions cover the most typical types of rescue: many other types of rescue and alternative methods of use exist. The information in these user instructions is not exhaustive, and is not a substitute for comprehensive instruction by trained and competent persons. Please contact Lyon Equipment Ltd if you require training in the use of this Pick Off Rescue Kit. The Pick Off Rescue Kit may be used in conjunction with compatible items of personal fall protection equipment of suitable specification, with due consideration to the limitations of each individual piece of equipment in the safety chain. Planning a rescue Ensure the Pick Off Rescue Kit is compatible with other components of your equipment and rescue system before introducing into service. Before using the Pick Off Rescue Kit, carry out a full risk assessment on the safety of entering any confined space or working at height. 3:1 Where necessary the user(s) of this Pick Off Rescue Kit shall wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as determined by risk assessment. Taking into consideration the casualty s injuries, the intended extraction system and any obstacles to a clear descent, assess whether your chosen method of rescue is suitable for the particular application. 4

The anchor point used to suspend the Pick Off Rescue Kit must be unquestionably reliable, situated above the casualty, and have a minimum breaking load of 15 kn. Before deployment, ensure the Pick Off Rescue Kit is long enough to lower the casualty to a place of safety. Ensure that there is no potential for other items, e.g. structure, branches, to interfere with the operation of any element of the Pick Off Rescue Kit during operation. Before commencing the rescue, a plan must be in place as to how to deal with any emergencies which may arise during the rescue. The time that a casualty is suspended in their harness must be kept as short as possible to minimise risks to respiration and circulation (suspension intolerance). Operation of the Pick Off Rescue Kit General guidance Before use, check that the elements of the Pick Off Rescue Kit are correctly orientated, that all connectors are secure and that the rope within the Pick Off Rescue Kit is not twisted. It is essential to regularly check connectors during use, to ensure they are properly closed and are not cross loaded. When selecting an anchor, ensure that the Pick Off Rescue Kit will be correctly positioned when the rope is under tension; avoid loading ropes or metallic components over an edge. Lock off the I D and PRO TRAXION before use to prevent accidental movement. Ensure that the casualty s rope is of sufficient strength to withstand the loads imposed during the recovery, e.g. if the casualty has fallen onto their guided type fall arrester and the braking action of the fall arrester has damaged the rope. Do not allow the Pick Off Rescue Kit or any components to come into contact with any open wounds. Ensure that the casualty is not endangered by contact with components of the rescue system, for example a connector striking the head of the casualty during an unintended incident such as a short fall. If at any stage the casualty shows signs of distress or potential injury from use of this Pick Off Rescue Kit, cease use immediately and review its suitability and/or adjustment. Rescue from a guided type fall arrester, energy absorbing lanyard or work positioning lanyard Ensure that the rescue bag is secure and whilst keeping it upright, carefully remove the wire anchor strop from the rescue bag. The hauling and lowering systems are attached to this wire anchor strop. Do not tip out the contents on the floor. Attach the wire anchor strop to a suitable anchor point. 5

Ensure the orange rescue rope exiting the I D is not clipped into the Sm D snap gate connector. Depress the button in the end of the I D handle and gently rotate the handle into the descent position (refer to the markings on the I D) until resistance on the button is felt. Pay out (by pulling) the orange rescue rope out so that it reaches the casualty. Release the button. flexible anchorage line, or removing the casualty from their guided type fall arrester, or removing the lanyard from the structure, or detaching the casualty from their lanyard. The casualty can now be lowered using the orange rescue rope and I D. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DEPRESS THE BUTTON AT ANY OTHER TIME Attach the connector on the orange rescue rope to the loaded fall arrest attachment point on the casualty s harness, using the Reach Pole MK2 if required see user instructions supplied with the Reach Pole MK2. Check that the hauling system is fully extended, that all slack in the orange rescue rope between the I D and the casualty has been taken out and that the I D and PRO TRAXION are locked off. Always clip the orange rescue rope exiting the I D into the Sm D snap gate connector to provide additional friction when lowering. Pull the tail end of the black hauling rope through the PRO TRAXION and the casualty will rise. The casualty s weight will be released from their guided type fall arrester. Detach the casualty from the flexible anchorage line or structure by removing their guided type fall arrester from their 6

If the casualty is on a guided type fall arrester on a vertical flexible anchorage line, with no structure nearby that can be used as an anchor point: Attach the BASIC ascender to the casualty s flexible anchorage line as shown, to provide an anchor for the Pick Off Rescue Kit. Proceed as described previously. Note orientation of BASIC ascender. Check that the BASIC will securely grip the anchorage line when loaded. If the rescuer cannot reach the casualty, but can reach the main anchor point for the casualty s vertical flexible anchorage line, e.g if the casualty is working below a theatre grid: Attach the Pick Off Rescue Kit to a suitable anchor point above the casualty. Attach the BASIC ascender to the bottom of the Pick Off Rescue Kit and to the casualty s flexible anchorage line. This allows the casualty to be lifted off their anchor point and lowered to the ground. 7

Note orientation of BASIC ascender. Check that the the BASIC will securely grip the anchorage line when loaded. Proceed as described previously. Snatch rescue Remove the Pick Off Rescue Kit from the rescue bag (leaving the remainder of the orange rescue rope in the rescue bag) and attach the wire anchor strop to a suitable anchor point above the casualty. Attach the connector in the end of the orange rescue rope to the wire anchor strop. Attach the OK TRIACT connector attached to the I D to the rescuer s harness. Check that the gate of this connector is facing the rescuer and that the gate hinge pin is uppermost. This allows the rescuer to step out of the system once on the ground without the weight of the casualty being completely released from their harness (if required). Ensure that all slack in the orange rescue rope between the I D and the anchor point has been fed through the I D, and that the I D is locked off. Clip the orange rescue rope exiting the I D into the captive Sm D snap gate connector to provide additional friction when descending. This must be considered as a last resort, as the weight of the rescuer and the casualty will be on a single rope. Consider using a guided type fall arrester on a separate vertical flexible anchorage line as a backup. Take the hauling system and attach the RESCUE pulley to the OK TRIACT connector on the I D. Temporarily attach the connector on the PRO TRAXION to a gear loop on the rescuer s harness to keep it out of the way while descending to the casualty. Check the area below is clear of obstructions and people, and if safe 8

to do so, either attach the rescue bag to the harness gear loop (preferred) or deploy the rescue bag with the remainder of the rope to the floor, after removing any equipment from it. If it is practicable to use a back-up system then do so. Ensure that it is attached correctly to both a suitable anchor and the rescuer before removing attachment lanyards. Only when the rescuer is satisfied that the system has been set up correctly should they remove their lanyards / attachments from the structure. Holding the free end of the orange rescue rope in the right hand, unlock the I D with the left hand. Descend in a controlled manner towards the casualty. Stop and lock off the I D about 60 cm above the casualty. Unclip the connector and PRO TRAXION from the gear loop of the rescuer s harness, and attach this connector to either the sternal or dorsal attachment point of the casualty s harness. Ensure the PRO TRAXION is locked off. Pull up on the black hauling rope and the casualty will rise. As their weight is released from their lanyard, the lanyard can then be removed (or, as a last resort, cut using the supplied safety knife). between the orange rescue rope and the Sm D snap gate connector. Once on the ground, the rescuer can detach from the Pick Off Rescue Kit by undoing the connector on the I D and removing their harness attachment point from this connector, to leave the casualty attached to the I D and hauling system in an upright sitting position. Training in the use of this Pick Off Rescue Kit It is essential that all potential users receive training in the use of this Pick Off Rescue Kit. If training with live casualties, the use of a back-up safety system is strongly recommended. Accessories Reach Pole MK2 (Code LSYNRP MK2) The Reach Pole MK2 is primarily intended to aid the remote connection of a recovery/rescue system to a fallen worker. It is especially useful in situations where the casualty is suspended from a deployed fall arrest lanyard, providing the option for recovery without the rescuer having to descend to the casualty. Specific instructions are provided with the Reach Pole MK2. When using with the Pick Of Rescue Kit, proceed as for Rescue from a guided fall arrester. The rescuer and casualty can now descend to the ground, regulating the speed of descent by utilising the friction 9

Inspection The Pick Off Rescue Kit should be subject to: Pre-use checks Thorough inspections Interim inspections (as appropriate) In addition, after each occasion of use the Pick Off Rescue Kit must be thoroughly examined by a competent person, and fully reassembled before packing and stowing inside the rescue bag and possibly security sealed ready for future use. The hauling system must be fully extended (with the barrel knot against the PRO TRAXION) when packed in the rescue bag, with the locking cam of the PRO TRAXION engaged. All parts of the Pick Off Rescue Kit should be inspected according to the user instructions for the component parts. Move the ropes through the I D and the PRO TRAXION to allow all parts to be fully inspected. Do not disassemble the Pick Off Rescue Kit unless components need replacing. Check the rope termination thimble for cracks. If the thimble is cracked and there is no sign of related damage (evidence of overloading which may have caused the cracking, or damage to the rope as a result of the cracked thimble), the thimble should be removed to prevent possible damage to the rope Then the rope may continue to be used subject to passing the other checks. Check the load bearing stitching for abrasion or distortion, and cut or loose threads. Check both rope and stitching for discoloration, which could be the result of chemical or UV damage. Check for correct operation and legibility of markings of all components. The checks should be undertaken in good light. Any item showing any defect should be withdrawn from service immediately. If contaminated by biohazard, dispose of immediately. Destroy any item which fails inspection or has arrested a fall, or for textile items if it reaches 10 years of age regardless of use. Components may be replaced please contact Lyon Equipment to discuss. Please note that the I D side plates have been locked together using the cross head screw (supplied with the I D) through the back plate. To replace or remove the rope for any reason, this screw can be taken out to allow the front plate of the I D to be opened. Remember, once the rope has been re-fitted, close the front plate and re-fit the screw in the countersunk hole in the rear plate of the I D to lock the front and rear plates together. Do not overtighten this screw. Check that the rope has been installed correctly by referring to the I D user instructions. If you are not confident in your ability to carry out this procedure correctly, please contact Lyon Equipment Ltd. 10

It is recommended that the Pick Off Rescue Kit is marked with the date of the next or last inspection. This can be marked on a tag on the rescue bag, with an indelible laundry marker.
