32 GMC Twenty20 Cricket Rules GMC Regulations: Each club is entitled to play a maximum of three (3) players that are not registered players of their club. In order to qualify to play in any finals games, a non registered club player must have played in at least one (1) qualifying game in this competition for their respective final club. Registered club players for their respective club can play in any group round or finals match. Only 11 players are to play in T20 match. A sub-fielder can be used where a player has injured themselves in the current match. An umpire must approve a sub fielder. Points / Ladder: 4 points will be awarded to the winning team. 2 points will be awarded for a draw. 0 points to be allocated to the losing team. Bonus Points System 1 Bonus Point 2 Bonus Points 3 Bonus Points wins by runs wins by runs wins by 35+ runs wins with balls remaining wins with balls remaining wins with 35+ balls remaining *** Percentage will be calculated according to GMC by-laws (runs for / against & wickets for / against) Finals Format: The top team from each group will progress through to the semi-finals. These four teams will be ranked accordingly from 1-4 in relation to their total points and percentage received from their two preliminary matches. The semi-finals matches will be held on a Thursday (separate venues) at the venue of the two highest ranked teams. The final and final will be held on a Sunday at the venue of the highest ranked team. General Rules: All matches other than the Semi-Final and Final are to start at 5:30pm. In a single innings, each of the bowlers can bowl a maximum of only one-fifth of the total overs i.e. 4 overs in a total of 20 overs. 5 overs will be bowled from the same end and then 5 from the other end etc If a bowler ever delivers a ball overstepping the popping crease, it is a no-ball. The batting team gets one run for the ball and the next delivery is a free hit. In other words, in the next ball, the batsmen can only be dismissed through a run out. The interval (change of innings) lasts for 10 minutes. In each Twenty20 cricket match, one short-pitched ball is allowed per over. Field Restrictions At the most, five fielders can be on the leg side, at any given point of time. In the first six overs of a T20 game, there cannot be more than two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. There can be a maximum of five fielders outside the fielding circle, after the first six overs end. The fielding team has to start bowling its 20th over within 70 minutes. If it fails to do so, extra six runs will be added to the batting teams score, for every whole over bowled after the 70 minute-mark. In case the umpire believes that the batting team is wasting time, he may add more time to this. Tie Deciders: Super Over 3 players are nominated to bat for each side and one bowler for each. The team scoring the highest number of runs off their over is the winner. The team which batted second in the game will bat first in the super over. If two wickets are lost by either team then that team is all out.

33 Spirit of Cricket Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it is expected to be played not only within its Laws, but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains. 1. There are two Laws, which place the responsibility for the team s conduct firmly on the captain. (i) Responsibility of captains The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws. (ii) Players conduct In the event of a player failing to comply with the instructions by an umpire, or criticising by word or action the decisions of an umpire, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute, the umpire concerned shall in the first place report the matter to the other umpire and to the player s captain, and instruct the latter to take action. 2. Fair and Unfair Play According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges of fair and unfair play. The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the responsibility of the captain to take action where required. 3. The Umpires are authorised to intervene in cases of; * Time Wasting * Damaging the pitch * Dangerous or unfair bowling * Tampering with the Ball * Any other action that they consider to be unfair 4. The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for; * Your opponents * Your own captain and team * The role of the umpires * The game s traditional values 5. It is against the Spirit of the Game; * To dispute an umpire s decision by word, action or gesture * To direct abusive language towards an opponent or umpire * To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for instance (a) to appeal, knowing that the batsman is not out (b) to advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing (c) to seek to distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one s own side. 6. Violence There is no place for any act of violence on the field of play. 7. Players Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make an important contribution to this.

34 Umpire Code of Conduct 1) Compliment and encourage all participants. 2) Be consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions. 3) Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents. 4) Emphasise the spirit of the game rather than the errors. 5) Be a good sport yourself- actions speak louder than words. 6) Keep up to date with the latest available resources for umpiring and the principles of growth and development of young people. 7) Remember, you set an example. Your behaviour and comments should be positive and supportive. 8) Place the safety and welfare of participants above all else. 9) Treat all players with respect at all times. 10) Accept responsibility for all actions taken. 11) Exercise reasonable care to prevent injury by ensuring players play within the rules. Reasonable care consists of advising the players of illegal body movements, showing due diligence in detecting infringements and penalising rule breakers. 12) Be impartial and maintain integrity in your relationship with other umpires, players and coaches. 13) Avoid situations which may lead to a conflict of interest. 14) Value the individual in sport. Ensure the players have the opportunity for discussion with you after the match. 15) Encourage inclusivity and access to all areas of officiating. Aim for excellence based upon realistic goals and due consideration for growth and development. 16) Be a positive role model in behaviour and personal appearance by maintaining the highest standards of personal conduct and projecting a favourable image of cricket and umpiring. 17) Refrain from any form of personal abuse towards players. This includes verbal, physical and emotional abuse. Be alert to any forms of abuse directed towards the players from other sources while they are playing. 18) Refrain from any form of harassment towards players. Treat all players fairly within the context of their sporting activities, regardless of gender, race, place of origin, athletic potential, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, and other conditions. 19) Show concern and caution towards ill and injured players. You should enforce the blood rule and apply procedures regarding ill or injured players according to the rule book. Common sense must be applied in all cases. 21) In accordance with Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria guidelines, modify rules and regulations to match the skill levels and needs of young people. Encourage and promote rule changes which will make participation more enjoyable. 22) Give all young people a fair go regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. 23) Institute disciplinary procedures when necessary without fear or favour in accordance with the rules of the competition and the Spirit of Cricket. 24) Participate in ongoing training, be aware of rule changes, be a member of an Umpires Association wherever possible and promote the Spirit of Cricket.
