1 A GRADE Captain s Report All in all I am sure that we would say that this season was not really a successful one, and for me personally, I would agree. For the A-grade in particular the season was poor on-field, however offfield I feel that it was a very successful season for the club. At long last there are some players playing now in the A-grade that are actually under 30 years old. This is very positive and I think that the blocks are there to start building another premiership for our great club. Josh Deniet filled in for the first game this year and then stayed on for the rest of the season. He made quite a few valuable contributions throughout the season. This can be seen in his stats. Josh scored and took He also took a great catch against South Road and was consistently one of our better fieldsmen. Well done J.D. I can t wait to play more cricket with you. Brad Bennett was another outstanding addition to the team, not just because he is under 30, but Brad s stats also stack up well. He scored in his debut season, batting mostly at number 3. While these are decent enough figures, the fact that Brad s best scores were 40 s shows how consistent he was throughout the season. Go on next year Brad and you will have a great season. Braedon (Chip) Tonkin made his debut for the A-grade after Christmas and made the most of his limited opportunities, with a highlight of 2/4 off 1.5 in the South Road match. Well done Braedos. But as everyone knows, you can t have young punks without some older heads to guide them along. So we come to the grey brigade and we had mixed results here. Mr Reliable, Wes, kept the form going this season, making 313 with the 31.3 and was great behind the stumps. But even Wes had a senior s moment this year. Bowling against South Road, I threw Wes the ball to try and change up the pace, but their tailenders took a real liking to his off-spin and took 41 off of 3 overs. So not being able to take a wicket, some would actually ask why did the captain keep bowling him? Upon reflection, it was actually my senior s moment! Nicko this year, made the most of every game he was able to play, making over 25.9 and with his limited opportunities to bowl (Nick only bowled in 4 out of his 8 games) was able to get 7 wickets at Nick wins my captain s trophy this year because he always had a great team attitude and made my job simple on the field and off the field. So congratulations Nicko, it was a pleasure to play with you this season! Moving on, I know Rowan won t like being in the grey brigade, but I know the truth. Rowan really had an outstanding season after showing us what he was about in the semi-final last season. He stood up this season, taking the new ball and winning the bowling trophy, with over and going at less than 3 runs per over. Well done mate! Rowan also won the Coomber medal, capping off an awesome season. Another great addition to the team was Shane Hume. He came to our club from Unley CC and fit into the side really well. I look forward to playing more cricket in the future with you Shane. So drawing to a close of another season, there are quite a few players I haven t mentioned yet, but the highlights are becoming harder to find, however I have a lot of thank-you s: to P.T, Caddy, Tonks (senior), Sido, Jay, Lighty, Bolt, Richie, Baylo, Mad-Dog, Rowie, Pazz and Luke Miller. These guys, along with the guys I mentioned earlier, plus myself, made up the A-grade this season, totalling 21 players. That beats last year of 20 players! I would also like to thank the other captains, Winner and Dave Palmer. It was hard at the time, but both of you guys made sure that the A-grade was the first team picked. Cheers Win and Mary! I look forward to seeing everyone next season. Sarge A Grade Captain PS. I would like to apologize for some details that may not be correct in the following match reports, but the errors are because I didn t toss the coin or fill in the scorebook and don t know all the details due to my absence. Wes was captain for these games and for that I would really like to thank him.
