See the Club website for more details First XI Match Reports Marist, 4/114 (30.3 overs), defeated Daramalan, 110 (41.3 overs) Batting: Aidan Cowie 38no, Sam Brearley 22. Bowling: Joe Sidorko 5/35 (10), Ollie Newham 2/7 (3). A change of venue did not change the fortune of captain Mike Claremont at the toss, losing it and seeing Daramalan elect to bat first. The Marist bowlers had learnt from lessons of the past, bowling a much tighter, more 'boring' line. Nick Pinkas bowling some 'heavy' balls took the top of the batting line-up with figures of 2/14 (5) and good bowling throughout did not allow the Daramalan batsmen any leeway on a wicket that was difficult to score on when the pace was taken off the ball. Some excellent efforts in the field along with pressure to score getting to the opposition saw Joe Sidorko take his maiden 5 wicket haul finishing with 5/35 off his 10 overs and Oli Newham once again bowling well late and picking up 2/7 to help Marist bowl Daramalan out for 110 in the 42nd over. A few jitters at the top of the order saw Marist 3/31 in the 11th over and meant that Daramalan was able to maintain pressure in a difficult run chase. It was a solid 4th wicket stand between Sam Brearley (22) and Aidan Cowie (38no) that broke the opposition s resolve and with Will Pilloni (18no) joining Cowie with 50 runs to get. A mature, measured partnership saw the runs chased down without further loss in the 31st over. Second XI-Colts Marist, vs Norths 2 day match in progress Under 10 U10 Scorchers, vs. Grammar Renegades. U10 Heat, vs. Grammar Strikers U10 Thunder, 4/137, defeated Eastlake Sixers, 11/108. Batting: Tomas Jensen 17*, Henry Pickering 13. Bowling: Sam Pilloni 4/5, James Frilingos 4/13, Tomas Jensen 2/11. U10 Strikers, Rain stopped play for the epic contest between Grammar Heat and Marist Strikers. The boys were excited to play for the first time on the hallowed Marist turf with Captain for the day Johnny winning the toss and deciding to bat. Unfortunately, due to the late arrival of some Grammar players who read the old draw, the Strikers took to the field first. The boys showed some strong Marist spirit with compliments of some strong batting by Grammar and a never give up attitude around the fast Marist outfield. Unfortunately, heavy rain and bad light stopped play after a strong start with the bat and the Strikers missed out on their chance to rack up some runs in search for victory. U10 Sixers, 6/57, defeated by WCMCC Heat, 9/80.

Under 11 Division 1 Marist, , defeated Grammar Sixers, Batting: Sam Smith 30*, Alex Gunn 23*, Lucas Louis 20* Bowling: Sam Smith 1-10, Alex Gunn 1-15, Ashvin 1-18 What a fantastic game of cricket. This was the first of three tough match ups for the boys and we finally got to see what division 1 cricket was all about. With our first game at Marist batters playing good shots were rewarded while loose bowling was punished. Marist opened briskly with Lucas and Sam taking the total to none for 61 in six overs. Against a good opening pair who bowled their six overs in succession, Lucas looked back to his majestic best cutting and driving his way to 20 not out a score that could have been many more. At the other end Sam faced a number of wides and no balls early in his ball count which the Grammar coach was apologetic about, but with his power game and great running between wickets still somehow managed to get an unbeaten 30. A particularly vicious pull shot almost killed the two scorers as it half volleyed into the scorer s table. Next to the crease was Alex who was the pick of our batters today making a really good 23 not out. Alex s offside play was terrific scoring off powerful drives and cut shots. Well played Alex a top innings against a good bowling side. The Grammar bowling was the best we have come up against and unfortunately too many dismissals crept into our game after the drinks break with almost no extra s being bowled and good spin and pace bowling being confronted. Kelley held his wicket well remaining unbeaten while the rest of the boys will take a great deal out of today s game before facing up to what will be an even better Queanbeyan attack next week. Unfortunately Marist was really poor in the field with chaos creeping in at times as Grammar stayed ahead of the game. A beautiful over from Walter to their best batsman gave Marist hope again and Lucas, Alex and Sam bowled very well at the end to secure the victory despite Grammar needing only 19 from the final three overs, a target that was well and truly gettable in this type of cricket. Earlier Ashvin had bowled nicely again picking up 1-18 from 3. Lucas was the pick of the bowlers today despite not picking up a wicket. His line and particularly his length were spot on and really tied the batters down. So now we know what the standard is, we need to keep working hard and bounce back from what was a tough day in the field and a real learning experience for many of the team. A good result none the less. (The two teams pause to observe a minute s silence at 11am) Friday Marist Royal, 4/86, defeated St Edmunds White, 9/67-10 November. Batting: Lucas Kovac 6, Kirby Jones 13, Max Read 9, Sam Smith 9. Bowling: Kirby Jones 3/0, Max Read 2/5, Thomas Ahearne 2/9, Lucas Kovacs 1/9, Lachlan Yeatman 1/11 A great first win by the Marist Royals! The clouds were building as St Edmunds went into bat. Tom Hall kept the runs at bay and then Lachlan Yeatman bowled and caught to start the wickets falling. Kirby Jones took two wickets, followed up in quick succession by Tom Ahearne who took two and Lucas Kovacs taking one. With a total of 6 wickets falling in the first 5 overs. Max Read then delivered a strong bowling performance taking two wickets for only 5 balls and Kirby Jones took another wicket in his second over. The boys tried hard to get every run they could, stealing runs at every opportunity. Lucas Kovacs was the batter of the day getting in the team s only boundary and a total score of 16. He was followed up by Kirby Jones - 13, Sam Smith and Max Read - 9 each, Thomas Ahearne - 8 and Lachlan Yeatman - 6. The team was on fire and deserved the resounding win of 19 runs up. The boys were very excited to get their first win, but not as excited as their fantastic coach - Nathan! Great win Boys! 3

Marist Blue, 10/110, defeated by St Edmunds Blue, 10/159. Batting: Eli Coll 11, Omkar Gilkam 10 Bowling: Tejas Nambissan 2/13, Owen McKenna 1/11 Facing off against our traditional rivals, this was the first match of the season which really tested our boys. Whilst ultimately defeated by a skilful St Edmunds team, Marist showed great courage and determination to remain competitive throughout the match. The match commenced with Marist losing the toss and being sent into bat. The St Edmunds bowling attack came out strong and fast making it difficult for our opening batsmen to accumulate many runs. As the innings went on the boys gradually built momentum and started to score more freely. There was a strong middle order partnership from Eli Coll (11) and Jack Hatton (9) which featured a magnificent hook shot to the boundary from Eli. This was followed by another good partnership from Ross Lamb (8) and Omkar Gilkam (10) who kept up the pace and managed to get Marist to a respectable 70 runs against some spirited bowling. St Edmunds strength continued into the second innings with their opening batsmen piling on the runs from the outset. Marist did well to continue on and stem the flow of runs somewhat, with some accurate bowling and excellent fielding. Owen McKenna and Tejas Nambissan were the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/13 and 1/11 respectively. All the boys worked hard in the field, with a number of runouts and some brave attempts at difficult outfield catches. Despite Marist s best efforts, St Edmunds finished their innings strongly to score a wining total of 119 runs. Marist Navy, 5/98, defeated Grammar Storm, 4/97. Batting: Ben Henry 25*. Bowling: Ben Henry 1/9, Baillie Sharpe 1/12, Riley Elliott 1/12, Hamish Ridd 1/20. Round 5 saw Marist Navy host Canberra Grammar School at Deakin. Marist were first to pad up with Ben and Jonte opening the batting. Ben top scored again with a blazing 25 which included two 4's, while Jonte also got to double digits. Captain Hamish Ridd came in at number four, followed by Darcy, Max, Baillie, Bede and Riley. All the boys had solid efforts, with Darcy also managing to get to double digits, and Ben, Hamish, Baillie, Bede and Riley not conceding their wicket. Marist ended up with 86 runs off the bat, with a further 12 extras to add on. Bede and Jonte had stints behind the stumps this week, with the boys taking 4 wickets in total against a strong Grammar batting line up. Wicket takers included Ben, Hamish, Baillie and Riley, with Ben, Jonte, Max and Bede conceding less than 10 runs each to keep things nice and tight. We'll need to work on our line and length though, with the boys giving away a total of 24 extras throughout the innings. All up a very tight game with Marist taking the win by a single run, just in time before the heavens opened up to send us all scrambling back to our cars. Under 12 Division 1 Marist Blue, 7/247, defeated Tuggeranong, 7/105. Batting: Jacob Scholtens 59, Kai Callaway 32*, Vansh Malhotra 26, Sam Wilkie 25. Bowling: Vansh Malhotra 2/9. Marist Navy, 4/115, defeated Norths Red, 59. Batting: Austin Bennie 25*. Bowling: James Haley 2/5, Nick Kent 2/10. 4

Friday Marist, 0/9, defeated Western Districts, 8. Bowling: Kiefer Brennan 2/2, Andrew Back 2/2, James Davidson 2/3. Marist was definitely the stronger team on the day. Wests were down a couple of players and they decided to bat first. It was only a short stint at the crease with Marist bowling them all out for 7 runs. Kiefer, Andrew and James all took two wickets each. James and Andrew were the opening batsmen for Marist and took the win for Marist, scoring a quick 13 runs. The boys demonstrated quality sportsmanship on the day with Wests again taking the pitch for another round of batting. Division 2 Sunday Marist Blue, 2/123, defeated Queanbeyan Blue, 63. This week we were up against Queanbeyan Blue; we lost the toss and they sent us in. After the first ball they may have regretted that, Walter got on the back foot and pulled it over the fielders for four. Really set the tone for the rest of the innings. It was certainly our best batting performance for the season. Four batsmen finished with double figures, Walter (27), Lachlan (19 NO), Bede (14 NO) and Austin P (12 NO). In the end we finished up with 2/123, running out of overs in the end we had to retire a few batsmen. Keshia missed out on facing a ball, but showed a great team effort to run hard for three twos to finish the innings. Always great to see a young man put his team s performance before their own. Great work mate, we will get you up the order next week. Having a chat at the break we knew if we kept our extras to a minimum and worked hard in the field, we were in with a good shot. We had them 2/20 after 4 overs and 5/50 after 7. The wickets were evenly spread, Austin T, Jack and Bede all finished up with 2/7. In the end we cleaned them up for 8/63. A solid team effort, in the field, with the bat and ball, proud of your effort boys. With nine players for the rest of the season, we have plenty to look forward to. Marist Navy, 61, defeated by Tuggeranong Knights, 92. Marist Navy were at home again this week on a very dewy lush Garran field and captain Aaron, having won the toss, sent the Knights in to bat. Our game started off on a great note with Matthew bowling out their opening batsman in the first over and Finn executing a pinpoint throw from mid-wicket to run their second batsman out. Tuggeranong managed to steady the ship from there and slowly built their score but sharp, enthusiastic fielding kept the batsmen cautious. Slowly the wickets started to come with Isaac taking his third caught and bowled for the season in the twentieth over, a catch off Jasper s medium pace bowling in the twenty first and a run out with a direct hit from fine leg. Callum also executed a direct hit run out from Ben s bowling and Yug took their final wicket by knocking the stumps clean over with his swinging bowls. Aaron and Isaac opened our batting and both played some well-considered and executed shots to a couple of fast bowlers but a slower ball slipped through Aaron s guard to take out his leg stump and Isaac soon followed ran out. 5

Ben and Yug were third and fourth in the order and soon established a nice partnership, regularly turning over the strike until Ben was bowled in the eleventh over and Yug retired unbeaten after his 35 balls. Jasper and Finn also formed a clever partnership, contributing to our tally with plenty of sneaky runs capitalising on any mistake or misfield the Knights made. Soon our target looked to be within reach but Jasper s stumps were cleaned up by one of their fast bowlers bringing Yug back to the crease. With only one wicket left, things were looking a bit dire and alas, Finn skied one to extra cover to see out our innings in a game played with amazing Marist spirit. Bowling O M W R M Smith J Roles I Palmer A Koina F Carr C Samaranayake B Hutchison Y Desai Under 13 Division 1 Marist Blue, 5/134, defeated by Grammar, 2/140 T20, 8 November. Batting: Nick Honeyman 29, Callum O'Brien 26*. Bowling: Hunter Fogarty 1/6, Rafay Abbas 1/8. Marist Blue, 118, defeated Norths Red, 6/ November. Batting: Rafay Abbas 37*, Nick Honeyman 30, Hunter Fogarty 13. Bowling: Hunter Fogarty 1/6, Hugh Strickland 1/6, Rafay Abbas 1/8. Marist was up against it from the start this week, with Saswat Patti pulling out ill at 10:15pm Friday night and Kieran McKenna being unable to bowl due to a damaged hand. Fortunately for the third game in a row 9 year old superstar Bede Fogarty entered the fray showing great courage and assisting to Marist get over the line in a cracking game of cricket. Norths won the toss and elected to bat on a slow Bonner oval, where shade for spectators was very hard to come by! Despite an improved bowling and fielding performance from Marist, the Norths openers were on top and after 15 overs, Marist could only manage a single wicket. Our skipper Hunter Fogarty kept the boys alert in the field and together with Rafay Abbas and Jack Catanzariti they managed to stop the flow of runs and each grabbed a vital wicket through good line and length bowling. Nick Honeyman and Hugh Strickland also chipped in with wickets and all of a sudden Marist grabbed the ascendency. Hugh executed a terrific direct hit run out in the last overs and Norths struggled for the remainder of their innings amassing a competitive but gettable 112. Hugh and Jack opened the Marist innings cautiously finding it difficult to score against tight Norths bowling. After a couple of quick wickets Nick and Rafay found themselves needing to get a wriggle on and their 60 run partnership proved to be critical, giving the boys a chance of reaching the Norths total. When Nick edged one behind for a well-made 30 and Rafay retired the pressure fell on Hunter to keep things moving. He did well rotating the strike and together with a cameo innings from Rafi the game was evenly poised. Norths struck back with late wickets leaving it up to Rafay and Bede to steer the ship. Rafay s ball striking was superb and he was definitely man of the match with a well-made run a ball 37 not out, including 2 big 6 s. But there was not going to be a Marist victory had Bede not hung around contributing 5 runs and, more importantly, showing aggressive running between the wickets, providing Rafay with the vital support needed to etch out a hard earned victory. Special mention also to Kieran, who batted with a busted hand to help his mates out. A fantastic team effort by the boys and great to see improvement in our bowling and fielding efforts. Marist Navy, 3/123, defeated Ginninderra, 41 T20, 8 November. Batting: Angus Murray 30*, Jeremy Firth 25*, Cameron Bushell 18*. Bowling: Henry York 3/4, Lachlan Ashe 2/2. 6

Marist Navy, 8/83, defeated Daramalan, 8/63 - Remembrance Day 2017 Batting: Bowling: Oscar David 2/3, Angus Murray 2/9, Cameron Bushell 2/13. Marist lost the toss and was asked to field which suited the players on a damp and thick grasses outfield. The players were solid with the ball and Fantasia in the field restricting Daramalan to 8/63 in about 20 overs. Oscar 2/3, Angus 2/9 and Cameron 2/13 were the pick of the bowling figures, and Angus took 3 catches in the field. (right - Oscar David on fire with the ball) Marist batters got off to another flying start with Angus (17) and Jeremy (6) reducing the target by half. Jaskaran (12) and Oscar (7 of 39) steadied the team, and Cameron (14) Marist to the target. (Left - Oscar David showing patience and technique) In a tight match I must single out Kalaa who took 1/7 and added 6 runs playing with his wrist still in plaster (right). Division 2 Marist, 8/32, defeated by Eastlake Eagles, 6/211. Under 14 Division 1 Marist, 9/88, defeated by Grammar, 6/121 T20, 8 November. Marist, vs. Ginninderra 2 day match in progress. Division 2 Marist Navy/Tuggeranong, vs. WCMCC 2 day match in progress. Marist Blue, vs. Norths Green 2 day match in progress. Day One Marist won the toss and sent Norths into bat. Norths settled in well with both openers making runs until Angus Campbell bowled out an opener. Campbell and fellow opening bowler, Darcy Fogarty helped the scoreboard tick over with a few wayward deliveries. The first change saw James Willis come in for a tidy spell and a wicket, supported by Jacob Bauer with some handy spin taking 2 quick wickets in one over along with another near miss. The rest of the bowlers toiled hard with unfortunately not a lot of result. The highlight in the field was Ethan Kirk s direct hit from side on to run out their top scorer. Norths ended up 6 for 112 off their first 25 overs, with a good knock from one of the North openers who saw off 20 plus overs and scored freely. Unfortunately sundries were a high scorer for Marist which resulted in a solid total being set by Norths. A case of dropsies in the field also limited Marist's pressure. Noah Bouquiaux and Ethan Kirk opened the batting for Marist. A couple quick dismissals saw Noah in with Collidge and they got the score board ticking over well for a while until Collidge slashed and coughed up a well taken catch. Noah saw off a few more partners until Jacob Bauer stuck with him for a while (although that combination left a number of runs off the score-sheet given their relaxed, safety first, let's not get hot and sweaty attitude to taking quick singles or pressure seconds - one of them should have invoked Arunja Ranatunja and called Fogarty on as runner!). Tidy, accurate bowling from Norths with few sundries slowed Marist's scoring right down. At one point a North's bowler was on a hat-trick after giving a Marist boy a golden duck - some quacking to be heard at Wednesday's training no doubt. Noah lasted 24 overs before being bowled out, with the top score of 25 runs. Marist finished the 25 overs at 8 for 72. Norths are in the box seat, however with a bit more focus from the Marist boys... switching on in the field, disciplined bowling, forgetting the Big Bash batting could all work to see them back in the game next week. 7

Under 15 Division 1 Marist, 9/102, defeated by Ginninderra, 6/106 T20, 8 November. Batting: Rory O'Brien 30*, Travis Grady 26. Bowling: Jack Kelly 4/13.
