Code of Conduct All players and supporters need to read and uphold the Club s Code of Conduct attached to this newsletter. You should also be familiar with the rules of ACT junior cricket (ACT Junior Cricket Rule Book). First XI Marist, no play due to rain Second XI-Colts Match Reports Marist, 81, defeated by Norths, 4/97 Batting: James Boland 41, Harrison Dick 20. Bowling: Daniel Long 2/18, Callan Bourke 1/9, Hugh Brocklehurst 1/13. Under 10 Marist Sixers, vs Tuggeranong. Marist Scorchers, vs Grammar Heat Marist Heat, bye. Marist Strikers, 7 for 118, defeated by Weston Creek Heat, 8 for 149. The big hits kept coming for the Marist Strikers with both Will H and Jake smashing some sixes for the first time this season and Jacob also hammering 3 fours as all three of these boys scored over twenty runs, congratulations! Will B - 6 runs, Johny - 5 runs and Josh - 4 also showed some flare and patience in what was at times a very good bowling attack. Josh again showed his continued improvement taking one wicket while Jacob took a spectacular running catch on the boundary off the bowling of Will B to finish the match. Marist Thunder, 9/123, defeated Eastlake Scorchers, 12/122. Batting: Tomas Jensen 23, Sam Pilloni 10*. Bowling: Tomas Jensen 2/4, Henry Pickering 2/5, Dominic Honan 2/11. Eastlake won the toss and elected to bat. Sevi opened up the bowling and things were underway. The bowling from all the Thunder players was good with 9 wickets being taken, all clean bowled. Our fielding was also improved with some more controlled returning back into the stumps. Will kept wicket for the first 10 overs and did a very good job, even to some quick deliveries from Thomas. Eastlake Heat finished their innings with 74 runs. James and Thomas opened the batting with Thomas leading the way once again, hitting 2 sixes and a few fours, all the guys managed to score some runs with Sam and Henry also finding the boundary. Batting wasn t made easy for us by the Eastlake team, a few of their bowlers were consistent with line and length and we lost a few wickets along the way.

The final few overs had the scores very close. We had a 1 run advantage going into the last over, which meant we could not lose a wicket which would add 4 runs to the opposition s score and lose the game for us. Sevi faced this final over and did a fantastic job defending his stumps. We didn t lose a wicket and won the game by 1 run. A close one for the boys who were all ecstatic with the win. That s 2 wins in a row, let s see if we can make it 3 next week in the final game of the season. Under 11 Division 1 Marist, 8/199, defeated Norths Blue, 11/151. Batting: Alex Gunn 28*, Kelley Jack 27, Sam Smith 24, Ashvin H 22 Bowling: Alex Gunn 3-6, Lucas Louis 2-5, Bede Cuddihy 2-7, Kelley Jack 2-12, Sam Smith Semi Finals time after an undefeated year is always a tough game to play and this was no exception. Marist lost the toss and for only the second time this year Marist was asked to bat first. Coach Aruna made a slight change to the batting order with Alex Gunn (left) joining Lucas Louis (right) at the crease to face the Norths new ball bowlers. Alex absolutely smashed the bowling making an excellent 28 not out with three fours all through the off side. This innings was made even better as our normally reliable Lucas and then Sam were both out cheaply trying to force the ball in the air in the pressure of the semi-final and Marist had lost two cheap wickets. Subsequently we went to the drinks break with three wickets down for 76, a long way behind our normally frantic starts. Thankfully the rest of the boys really stood up taking our tally to a very good 8 for 155. Ashvin recovered his innings well hitting a huge six to finish, while an angry Sam got his mojo back hitting some long balls down the ground for four, although the Marist contingent thought a couple of them may have cleared the rope. The star of the day was however yet to come with our wicketkeeper Kelley Jack (right) striding to the crease in his customary finishing role. Kelly played an amazing innings of 27 including an incredible 8 consecutive twos. I know the scorer needed the heart paddles just watching Kelley and Bede hare down the wicket at breakneck speed. As a unit we achieved a near perfect result with Marist getting to 155 without major contributions from Sam who has scored 400 runs in the season or Lucas who has scored 300 runs in the season. This highlights just what a complete team we have become. In the field Marist absolutely lifted to another level. With matches often over before the first innings drinks break, this week Marist needed to really defend well to restrict a reasonably strong Norths side. After a good start from the openers, Alex bowled two superb overs before finally being rewarded when Sam took an excellent catch at mid-on. From there, every single boy bowled well with Alex being rewarded for a stunning bowling display with 3 for 6 from his four overs. Lucas, Bede, Kelley and Sam were also rewarded with two wickets each as Norths simply could not score, making 119 off the bat for the loss of 11 wickets, an excellent effort from Marist in a semi-final. The fielding was top shelf with Sam taking two very difficult catches and Kelley grabbing another from his own bowling. This week showed that we are a complete team. Whatever happens next week we have demonstrated that we can win in different ways something that is fantastic to see? There are some very tired boys at the moment with a number of them playing full representative seasons and others playing two / three games a weekend helping out some of the u12 teams. C mon boys only one more weekend to get up for. Great effort Marist and bring on our arch rivals Queanbeyan next week! Friday Marist Navy, Batting: Bede Fogarty 39*, Ben Henry 36*, Jonte Ryan 30*. Bowling: Hamish Ridd 2/8, Jonte Ryan 2/10, Ben Henry 2/15. Another match up against St Edmunds College saw Darcy Dickie win the toss and send the home team in to bat. Hamish opened the bowling and jagged a wicket from his first over, finishing with 2 all up. Darcy, Baillie and Max kept things tight conceding less than 10 each, with Jonte and Benny also picking up 2 wickets each. The standout though was the boys fielding, as Benny, Hamish, Riley and Max all assisted with run outs, keeper Baillie picked up a stumping and Bede, Baillie and Jonte took a catch. 3

Our opening pair of Jonte and Bede started quickly with Jonte hitting a 6 off the first ball and Bede hitting his first 6 balls to the boundary to top score with 39. Darcy and Riley contributed to the middle order, getting the ball to the boundary on one occasion each, while Hamish and Max scored 8 runs each. Baillie and Benny closed off the innings with 18 and 36 respectively, with Benny finishing the innings the way we started a 6 off the last ball. The boys dominated with the bat and ball, but it was our fielding which really showed a big step up over previous weeks. A great effort and looking forward to the makeup game to wrap the season up. Marist Royal, vs Eastlake Hurricanes. Marist Blue, 6/130 defeated Grammar Storm 13/100 Batting: Bede Cuddihy 28*, Omkar Gilkam 28*, Tejas Nambissan 20* Bowling: Bede Cuddihy 2/7, Owen McKenna 2/13 On yet another hot Friday night, Marist Blue was up against Grammar Storm at Deakin. We lost the toss and were sent into bat. Our opening pair of Ross Lamb and Joseph Murray gave us a good start - with a boundary to Ross and some quick running between wickets. It was then that the middle order batsmen unleashed with a torrent of runs including Bede Cuddihy 28* (4 boundaries), Omkar Gilkam 28* (5 boundaries) and Tejas Nambissan 20* (2 boundaries). Our total runs of 130 placed Marist in a strong position at the innings break. Eli Coll opened the second innings in what was a very dominant bowling and fielding display, where the boys took a total of 13 wickets. In particular, the focus on backing up allowed the fieldsman to throw hard at the stumps resulting in some direct hits and several well executed runouts, with Jack Hatton wearing the gloves behind the stumps. Our standout bowlers were Bede (2/7) and Owen McKenna (2/13) with additional wickets from Tejas Nambissan and Jack. Marist s fine effort in the second innings restricted our opposition to 100 runs and secured our second victory against Grammar Storm. Under 12 Division 1 Marist Blue, Batting: Jacob Scholtens 44, Solomon Belcher 29*. Bowling: Solomon Belcher 2/9, Johnny Frilingos 2/11. Marist Navy, 6/119, defeated by Western Districts, 6/120. Batting: Jack Haley 45*, Declan Westcott 13*, George Denny 11. Bowling: Declan Westcott 2/19, Nick Kent 1/9. Division 2 Sunday Marist Navy, drew with Norths Gold rain. Marist Blue, drew with Queanbeyan Blue rain. 4

Friday Marist, 65, defeated by Ginninderra Bengals, 7/75. Batting: Bowling: A huge crowd gathered at the Marist oval to watch the under 12 semi-final. It was the biggest crowd the boys have played for in season. Ginninderra Bengals won the toss and opted to bat in 32-degree heat with Marist fielding. Tight early Marist bowling was rewarded with wickets that had Ginninderra 4/25 before the middle order mounted an excellent fightback to finish with figures of 7/75 by the end of the 20th over. The highlights of the Marist bowling efforts were Andrew Back 2/6 off 3 overs, a spectacular caught and bowled by Joey Henry and LBWs to Marcus and Angus. Ryan and Rhys shared the keeping duties and kept the byes to a minimum. Marist batted gamely against the fast bowling of Ginninderra with some excellent running between wickets and a number of 4 s scored to the boundary with top scores by Ryan Furner 19 and Joey Henry 16. However, despite the best efforts of the Marist team they were unable to accumulate enough runs to enable a successful run chase. Although the team may have felt disappointment with a loss in the semi-final, they have had a great season with the improvements in skills and cricket knowledge showing in all the games that have been played. The team should be proud of the season efforts and the experiences gained will add to their resilience for seasons to come. The boys and their families would like to thank the dedicated and focused development from Coach Pino Pezzella and our well organised Manager Jo Brennan. Under 13 Division 1 Marist Blue, 72, defeated by Queanbeyan Blue 4/133. Batting: Nick Honeyman 24, Hunter Fogarty 16*. Bowling: Hunter Fogarty 2/21, Hugh Strickland 1/6, Callum O Brien 1/9. Marist was well beaten by Queanbeyan in a consolation T20 game on an excellent ground at Googong where batsmen got full value for shots. Queanbeyan won the toss and batted, with their openers getting right on top from the start, scoring 30 runs in the first 4 overs without loss. In a man of the match performance Hunter turned the tide with 2 key wickets in his first spell. From there Marist were able to reduce the scoring rate with both Hugh and Callum following on from Hunter with tight spells of bowling, each claiming a wicket. It was only the last 3 overs where Queanbeyan managed a further 30 0vers to bring their total to 4/133. Hugh and Hunter were particularly strong in the field, with Hunter grabbing 2 good catches and cutting down runs through excellent fielding. Marist got off to a slow start in their innings, losing 3 quick wickets within the first 3 overs. Nick and Hunter then built a great partnership adding 40 runs at better than a run a ball. Nick was particularly aggressive hitting some good boundaries, but lost his wicket on 24. Hunter batted beautifully making a sound 16 not out and giving Marist some chance. In the end despite some good resistance from Jack (lasting 17 balls for his 4 runs), Queanbeyan were able to knock off the remainder of the Marist batsman leaving Hunter stranded. While an unfortunate end to the season, there are plenty of positives going into next year and most importantly the boys have had an enjoyable time and been competitive in most games. 5

Marist Navy, 5/90, defeated by Grammar, 4/ Feb. Batting: Lachlan Ashe 35*, Cameron Bushell 12. Bowling: Jaskaran Singh 2/22, Lachlan Ashe 1/11. Marist Navy came up against Grammar for the final game of the season. With some key players being unavailable, Navy were only able to field 6 players, but Grammar were very sporting, providing 3 of their players to field and allowing some Navy players to bat twice up to the 8 wickets of a normal innings (the score was actually 7/90 in this context). Navy were sent into bat and were immediately in trouble losing the two openers in quick succession. Lachlan Ashe managed to keep his wicket intact as batsmen continued to tumble until his retirement, having faced his quotient of deliveries. It wasn t long before he returned to the crease and knowing he did not have to go back to the shed again unless he got out, managed to dig in with Oscar David. Oscar s strong defence was impenetrable and in the context of the game his 9 runs was invaluable. More importantly he provided great support to Lachlan until he had to retire. Cameron Bushell returned to the crease for the second time to continue the partnership with Lachlan until he was run out in the last over. Cam played some great shots including a pull and drive to the boundary in his 12 runs and with Lachlan and Oscar, rescued the innings to a defendable 90 runs. Lachlan s innings was outstanding and showed great poise and thoughtful game sense. Early on when the team was in trouble he was solid in defence and as the game progressed played shots all around the ground in a chanceless innings. Some of his driving and cutting was exquisite, finding the boundary and picking up 2 s and singles regularly. He never looked in trouble at any time against the strong Grammar bowling attack to remain not out. It s important to note that whilst Lachlan scored the bulk of the runs, he could not do it without the support of Cam and Oscar at the other end. It was Grammar s turn at the batting crease and they were in trouble early on with Jazzy trapping their opener plum in front LBW in the first over to be one down for not many. From there Grammar was able to score relatively freely with some both sides of the wicket bowling from the boys, although the batting line up was pretty strong and pounced on anything wasn t in the corridor of uncertainty. Lachlan Ashe came to the bowling crease and managed to pick up a wicket and Will Seselja another one in the last over before the break to have Grammar at 3/60. Navy were still in with a sniff. After the break Grammar consolidated and whilst they provided 3 fielders all day, the workload of the 6 Marist boys started to take its toll and they simply were not able to sustain the additional bowling and fielding endeavour. Henry York looked for wickets (as the only chance to win was to bowl Grammar out) and so his bowling figures was not reflective his efforts. Given the Navy team were missing two of its key bowlers and its leading run scorer for the season, I thought the effort was exceptional from all of them. They never game up the contest and whilst they went down, they went down swinging. As the coach for the day, I was so proud to be associated with them and they held up the Marist ethos very admirably well done boys! Division 2 Marist, vs Grammar Navy. Under 14 Division 1 Marist, did not play. 6

Division 2 Marist/Tuggeranong, 4/104, defeated Marist Blue, 4/103 Marist/Tuggeranong Batting: Angus Wheadon 30*, Paul Smith 28. Marist/Tuggeranong Bowling: Paul Smith 1/8, Antonio Pezzella 1/9 Marist Blue Batting: Noah Bouquiax 31*, Darcy Fogarty 26*, Angus Campbell 19. Marist Blue Bowling: Angus Campbell 2/16, Will Hill 1/11, Noah Bouquiax 1/18. Under 15 Division 1 Marist, did not play. Division 2 Marist, did not play. Under 16 Division 2 Marist, 8/67, drew with Grammar Navy, 1/120, due to rain. Batting: Tyler Green 21. Bowling: Richard Caines 1/17. 7
