2 SHCC 6th Div v Newtown Seniors Round 6 Some of you may know that our 6th division seniors team is made up from a group of serious cricket tragic club parents. The idea was floated as a bit of a speculative thought by one or two old guys who had a bit of taste of renaissance cricket from recent Presidents Cup Matches but we were not prepared for the huge interest it generated. So 22 fathers and friends of the club, average age of 45, have come together to enjoy our game. We knew it would take a little while for most of the guys to revive their cricket skills of their youth and to get back to top form - our most worrying threat was the high injury rate and that was even before we bowled a ball in anger. Our first 5 matches read like a one days series between Namibia and the Australian team with SHCC taking the role of the former. Losing comprehensively to the likes of Newton, Redfern Tasker Park SH Seniors and Dobroyd Point had us coming last with a quotient that would sink a battleship and the season was looking long and grim. But the guys are undeterred and enjoying their cricket and with a few new key recruits Jim Bandas and David Ward adding some extra reinforcement to a developing bowling attack and a competent if not flashy batting line up our first two match has proved to be our watershed moment. To say everything just fell into place would be tempting the cricket gods but if you could not have had a more perfect match than this. Winning the toss we set a great first innings goal of 232 on the first day. On the second we bowled exceptionally well and economically, we took 50 % of our catches, we had enthusiasm in the field and the ball wasn't "canalled" until late in the innings. The wind was in our favour and we surprised ourselves and more importantly the opposition to have them all out for 81 in 21 overs!!!! Our first win. And a BIG win. The icing on the cake was that we had enough time to go back in and take apart a demoralised Newtown adding 178 and losing only 2 wickets for maximum batting bonus points. Points out of the match SHCC 6th div 9 points Newtown 1. Some of the highlights of the match - - Stuart Gibbs ever reliable 33 runs every time he takes the crease - David Wards man of the match first innings 88 and a 49 n.o. in the second - Ken Campbell's elegant support batting with David Ward in a 82 run partnership and solid forward of the wicket fielding - Bruce Williams channeling the typical Haddenesque stocky hard hitting wicket keeper batsman with a slashing 31 - James Carleton, Michael Metry and Rowan Mackenzie's enthusiasm in the field and support in batting - Jim (Rainman) Bandas's 11 over un broken spell into the wind for 15 runs with 2 scalps and his spectacular backward diving catch - Kurt Iveson's crafty strategy of "get hit for 6 then bowl the batsman with the comeback ball" working 3 times - Tim Eccles firing up with the temperament of the tearaway fast bowling but with the pace of a wet paper bag, but such guile in variation to out think three of the Newtown batsmen in all sorts of ways - Ramesh Koneru's hard hitting opening batting and neat work as reserve wicket keeper - and a catch and a few second innings runs for yours truly; But my favourite was being described as a "ruthless hard***e captain" for punishing the opposition in order to maximise our bonus points. Rob Sanderson proud 6th div Captain U12 Div 2 SH Red v Ashfield A great day for cricket on Saturday 29th Oct at Beaman Park. SH Red won the toss and elected to bowl first. The opposing team Ashfield set a total of 101 runs for us to try & match. Highlights of the first innings included great fielding & bowling by the whole team and 4 wickets taken by Thomas.D (1) James.K (1) & Daniel.B (2). Batting started slowly in the second innings with the Ashfield team bowling a very tight line and length & fielding well. However, a great batting partnership developed between Keegan.D (25) &
3 Daniel.B (17) increasing our run total to be in a good position to win the match. There were many twists and turns in this contest, and Ashfield struck back to limit the runs being scored in each over, and a nail biting finish ensued. With only 12 runs to score off 8 overs, Summer Hill Red made hard work of the task at hand. In the end, our team held their nerve and batted on to reach the 102 runs required to win the game. Congratulations Red team! Girls Thunder League U17s SHCC v St Pats By Alicia Anagnostopoulos After winning the toss and electing to bat, our openers, Mikaela and Emaan, got the team of to a ample start. After both our captain and vice captain Emaan and Nell retired there were some quick wickets in our middle order and the game was suddenly dislodged. But after a solid performance from a newcomer Natalie the game appeared to be rejuvenated. After a stable return from our retired batsmen we concluded our batting innings with a score of 106. The fielding and bowling performance was exceptional, we took some fast wickets in the start of the innings and after our opposition started to settle, we took a few more quick wickets and the game was up in the air. Although our bowlers and fielders put in a disciplined performance, we ended with a loss in the last few overs. in a row, which was our best moment of the match. When our team started batting, we lost a few early batters, but then, our later batters got us a lot of runs. Finn Williams had the best performance because he stayed in for a long time and got lots of runs. The game came to an end with Summer Hill White 'all out' for 45 runs, and Summer Hill Black on 6 out scored 67 runs, which made Summer Hill Black the winner of its first match. Congratulations to everyone! U12s SH White v Strathfield By Finn Williams (captain) Before the holidays the Summer Hill Whites played their second game of the season. It was a great match against Strathfield but unfortunately Summer Hill lost. Aatish took a brilliant catch and Patrick batted and bowled amazingly. After being run out early in the first game Luca batted incredibly well and rightfully earned most improved. I am sure everyone had a great time! Well done Summer Hill White! U12s SH White v SH Red By Luka Klianis (Captain) On the weekend we had a really tough game against Summer Hill Red 107 runs to 103 runs. Everyone really tried their hardest. Aatish, Patrick and Zayn performed great batting. Bowling against the wind probably lost us wickets but everybody bowled well. I am very proud to be the captain of the first ever winning game U12s SH White v Earlwood Wanderers Gold SHCC U17s Thunder League U12s SH White v SH Black By Eryk Francis (captain) Summer Hill White won the toss and sent Summer Hill Black in to bat. Summer Hill Black started batting, they got 5 out for 67 runs. They then ran out of overs, during this time, Zayn Hakim got two wickets bowled Earlwood won the toss and sent us out to bat. Zayn Hakim(C) and Patrick Talty-Bormans opened, Zayn hitting 2 consecutive 4s and Patrick hitting a 6. Unfortunately Zayn got out for a low score of 16 and being replaced by Aatish Yeleru. Patrick and Aatish both retired Aatish at 30 and Patrick at 29. When Patrick retired Luka Kilanis came in and got out for 18 runs. Benjamin Iveson then came in and was unlucky as he got out very quickly. Benji was followed by Finn Williams who was forced to
4 retire in 8 overs. At the end we ran out of batsmen and had to put Patrick T-B back in who scored 34*. Our overall score was 142 runs. Zayn opened the bowling with Finn, Zayn getting 2 wickets in his 2nd over and Finn getting 1 wicket in his 1st. In his first over, Zayn almost got a caught and bowled but unfortunately dropped his catch. Our bowling was strong and we let go of few runs. A few of our strongest bowlers were Patrick T-B, U12 Div 2 SH Red v Strathfield Black By Nicholas Kikirekov It was under extremely windy conditions that Summer Hill Red took on Strathfield Black at Earlwood Oval on Saturday Nov 5th. Our team photo was taken wearing the Summer Hill baggy blue caps. Strathfield batted first as they were low on players and set a score of 1/115 for SH Red to match. Our bowling & fielding was steady but only one wicket was taken in the first innings. In the second innings SH Red batted well with Harry.C & Keegan.D retiring not out. The Strathfield bowlers were very good taking 8 wickets. SH Red players Harry(46 runs) & Keegan(17 runs) batted again to bring home a win for SH Red team 8/117. Well done Red team! U12 SH Green v Earlwood Gold Due to the rain the night prior, upon arriving at Earlwood Oval, we had to inspect the pitch to see if it was okay for us to play. We had all decided that it was fine to play. Summer Hill Green won the toss and elected to bat first. Our opening batsman were Jimmy and Thomas. Jimmy unfortunately got bowled out after 20 runs, which was made up of 3 x 4s. Thomas had to retire on 7 runs and not out as did Alex with 4 x 4s and retired after 12 overs. Earlwood Gold had some great fielders, however, Summer Hill Green came home strong with Jordan not only getting 27 runs, with 3 x 4s but also getting 2 wickets. A great Team effort by both Teams with the end result being 3/145 Summer Hill Green to Earlwood Gold 63. U14 Div 1 SHCC v MCC Red SHCC U12 Red Over night rain made Flockart Park a bit damp underfoot as Riley Swaffield won the toss for Blue and opted to bowl. Red lost wickets but kept the run rate up with their opener hitting and running well with more than his bat talking. His score was rising when Rowen MacIntosh bought his wicket and Adil Ahmed took a well judged catch at cow corner. The run rate slowed till Eccles and Smith partnered for the last ten overs and put on a good partnership pushing the run rate up. Red were 7/127 at the end of the 30 overs. A wicket also to Ben Hayes, Thomas Flynn and two to Adil with Ellis Sherriff and Riley involved in runouts and a catch to Ben Hayes. Riley (21) opened the batting with James Hoy (15) and they applied themselves for a good partnership while some of Red kept up a high
5 volume of bizarre chatter whichh would later distract them far more than it distracted Blue as they neglected to set proper fields. Adil (12) continued the run chase with Ellis and when Ellis (45) was joined by Rohan Metry (19) they replicated the final 10 overs of Red's innings as they piled on the runs in a partnership of 53 with good calling turning ones into twos and hitting the ball into the gaps created by Red being distracted by their own antics. Ellis hit the winning run with an over to spare. A tight game showing that this year the U14s Div 1 should be a far more even and competitive season.
