Theselectprogramwillnowbeapermanentprogram offeredbythelondonskatingclub.theprogramhasassisted withgeneratingexcitementforcompetinginsinglescompetition. Thisyeartheclubsawmoreskatersthaninyearspast competinginstarskatecompetitions,withsomeverypositive results.thisissomethingthattheclubwouldliketocontinueto fosterandwearehopefulthattheselectprogramwillcontinue toleadthisinterestincompetingwithenthusiasm. WhatanexcitingyearforSynchronicitywhosenttwo teamstonationals.bothteamsskatedtheirheartsoutatthis awecinspiringopportunityandachievedtheirseason sbest scoresformanyoftheskaters,thiswastheirfirstexperienceat thenationalsynchronizedskatingchampionships,anditwasa verypositiveandrewardingone. WealsosawmanyyoungskatersrepresenttheLondon SkatingClubontheCompetitiveSkateside,achievingsuccesson theprovincial,nationalandeventheworldstage. Finally,IwouldberemissifIdidnotmentionourice show CanadaProud,StrongandFree,celebratingour110 th seasonwhatanamazingdayitwasforeveryone;skatersand spectatorscombined.choreographedbyroselledoyleand featuringelvisstojko,alongsidethelondonskatingclub skaters,thisshowwasashowthatmanywilllookbackonfor yearstocome. 3 Volunteers TheLondonSkatingClubisanonCforCprofitorganizationanditssuccessislargelytheresultof thosevolunteerswhogivebacktotheclub.thispastyeartheregionhostedthewesternontario SectionalChampionshipsinKomoka,DennisSilverthorneMemorialInvitationalinSt.Thomasand FuturesCompetitionthatwasheldinLucan.Proceedsfromthesecompetitionsaredividedamong theclubsonthebasisofvolunteerhoursworked.ourclubvolunteersreceiveacreditvoucherof $5.00perhourworkedcredittobeappliedtotheirchild sskating.allmembersoftheclubhave theopportunityofvolunteering.ifyouareinterestedinvolunteeringpleasecontactshannine ProgramAssistants WehavealargenumberofskatersthatdedicatetheirtimetohelpoutwithourCanskateprogram throughouttheyear.programassistantsarecompensatedbythelscthroughacreditsystem. Theirassistanceisagreatopportunityforthedevelopmentofleadershipskillsandan understandingofgivingbacktothecommunity.pacreditsareasfollows$4.00cages8c11,$6.00c age12,$8.00cage13and$10.00cage14+.inseptember,amandatorytrainingsessionisrequired andacommitmentof80%attendanceisrequiredtocollectthecreditsunlessotherwiseapproved. Weheldayearendappreciationnightthisyearbyprovidinganopportunitytoattendstarsonice complimentaryoftheclub. DressSale Thereisauseddressrackthatyouarewelcometocheckoutatanytime.Allsalesareona consignmentbasis.thepricesaresetbytheitems owners.a15%commissionfromthesale pricegoestowardthelsc.thesefundsareusedtowardsdifferenteventswithintheclub.this year,someofthemoneywasusedtopurchase27starsoniceticketsfortheprogramassistants.if youwishtosellanyitemsorpickupanyitemsthathavebeenontherackforoverayearplease contactshannine.thedresssalemoniesin2016c2017todateare$ weused$459for starsoniceticketsandhave$119.22carryingforwardtonextyear. 3
4 CanSkate AGM Report The2016C17CanSkateseasonsawcontinuedandsteadyprogressinadvancing our LearnforFun,LivetoSkate,SkateforLife visionofthelondonskatingclub(lsc). TheLSCteam(coaches,parents,volunteerssupervisorsandadministrators)continueto createanenvironmentthatallowsskaterstofullydevelopandreachtheirpotentialin skatingwhichdirectlysupportsskatecanada slongtermathletedevelopmentmodel. TheCanSkateprogramoffered6Fall/Wintersessionsand3Springsessionsthisyear. Thereturnofsmilingskatersattherinkandthequickpaceatwhichsessionshavefilled thisyearisatestamenttothededicatedteam,whocontinuetoimproveonthedelivery ofasolidprogramwhileinstillingapassionforthesportinourmembers.weareproud toofferastrongfoundationatthelscasskatersbegintheir SkateforLife journeyin thecanskateprogram. TheCanskateteamofcoacheshasbeenledthisyearbysupervisingcoaches, PatsyBrown,EmilyGalan,ShelbyKomarnickyandAlexSmith.Thesecoachesputin manyhourstoprepareforsessionsandcontinuetoworkhardbefore,duringandafter eachsession.theyareconstantlysupportingcoaches,andskatersandtheirfamiliesto createapositiveenvironmentandtopromotethedeliveryofhighqualitysessions. Thereissomuchthatgoesonbehindthescenesofanysuccessfulprogram.Kelly Farmer,theCanskateAdministrator,isdedicatedtoensureallaspectsoftheprogram arefunctioningatthehigheststandardspossible.shebringsawealthofknowledgeand experiencetotheteam,andisabletonavigatethroughtheoverallframeworkofthe program,andprovideguidanceandleadershiptoherteam. LastbutnotleastCanSkatecouldnotbeasuccessthisyearwithoutourreliable tablehelpersanddedicatedprogramassistantswhosharetheirskatingknowledgeand loveofthesporttohelpsupportthecoachesandskatersandtheirfamilies. ThisyearmarkedtheLondonSkatingClub s110 th AnniversaryandCanSkatershadthe opportunitytoshowofftheirskatingskillsatthelsc s110 th AnniversaryIceShow featuringworldchampionelvisstojko.thiswasanamazingeventandmemorable experienceforallmanyskatersfromourcanskatefamilyalsoparticipatedinour annualintermissionskatewiththelondonknightsatbudweisergardens. ProgramPromotion: AtrialgroupcoachingsesssionwasrunthefirsthalfofWintersession.AsSkateCanadais encouragingmoregroupcoachingwewillseeanincreaseinthesekindsofsessionsfor STARskaters. TicketIce: Registrationshaveseenaslightincreaseoverlastyear.AvarietyofSTARskatersare usingthesesessions,includingadultskaters,starskatecompetitiveandrecreational skaters. Newsletter: WiththeassistanceofZoeEspanol,anewsletterwassentoutattheendofMarch.The planistosendoutanewslettereveryquarter. Successes: Numberofparticipants:Thethreesessionsthisyearbenefittedfromtheexperiencedtwo coachesaswellasdemonstrator,andaprogramassistantonsomesessions.duringthefall andwinter,wehadmanynewfacesinoursessions.therewasalotofpositivefeedbackfrom newparentsandskatersalike,andmanystatingnoticeableimprovementsduringtheirgames. RecordtimesandagesSkatersprogressthroughtheCANPowerkateprogramthroughsix badgelevelsofincreasingskill,complexity,andspeed.whileallofourskatersenterthe programinlevel1,theendofthisyear sfall/wintersessionhasseenanumberofskaters proceedontolevel4andlevel5.wehadafewtalentedyoungskaterssurpasspastrecordsand beattimesinremarkablefashionduringourtesting. PrivateInstructionforCANPowerSkaters:InadditiontoofferingPreCPowerthroughLevel6, throughgroupinstructioninfall/winter,wewerepleasedtooffermembersofour CANPowerSkateprogramaccesstoicetimeforprivatelessons.Thistookplacebothduringthe summerdaytimepreliminary/juniorskatingprogram,andinthefall/winter/springsessionon ournewopensessions anoptionthatiswellcreceivedbyourmembership. Challenges: Lackofschedulingoptions:CANPowerSkateisonlyofferedonasingleeveningeachweek duetorestrictionsiniceandcoach savailability.thisposesaseriousschedulingproblemfor skaterswhomustputtheirhockey/ringettegamescheduleaheadoftheirpowerskating instruction.ifaskater shockey/ringetteteampractices/gamesareinconflictwithourprogram schedule,canpowerskateisnotaccessibletothemforthatseason. Increasedgapinskilllevelsbetweenentrylevelandreturningplayers:Oursuccessin powerskatinginstructionisalsoourdownfall.asreturningplayersprogressintothehigher levelsofpowerskatinginstruction,weareseeingalargerrangeofskilllevelsbetweennewand returningskaters,creatingacontinuedneedtorecevaluateandrecdistributeskatersbetween thesessions.wewouldideallyseeagainthreedifferentlevelsofsessionsavailableforthenext season,butmighthavetoconsiderapriceincreasetoreachbreakeven. If a skater enrols in 2 or more FULL YEAR (Fall/Winter - Sept/Oct through March) sessions, then a 5% discount will automatically be deducted from your invoice when you register online*. The second discount is a large family discount where a 10% discount is given to the 3rd and greater skaters in the family (discount applies to the skaters with the lowest fees).
