2 Dewdrops and blossoms are spun Pink lotus shoots and budding curls Realm of canal s green leafy swirl Petals wading in the water yonder Fragrances making the mind wander Botanical Gardens flowers & fervor Harvester of leaves to use as a server

3 MY GRANDFATHER S ROCKING CHAIR I remember a rocking chair of my early childhood A dear rocker crafted of Guyana s precious wood Smooth was the touch and a seat woven of wicker That shone in the Upper Demerara sunlight flicker

4 Silhouette of my Grandfather, sitting morning long By the window, drinking coffee to the outdoor song Where he told stories of the river with me on his lap Where he rested in dreamland for his afternoon nap Like a hammock or the amazing Berbice chair of rest The rocking chair of the bygone years, were the best Gone to winds of time and the living rooms of today Precious antique of the back & forth and history s sway

5 BLACK PUDDING LADY A stone throw between sweetness and delight Lives a special lady selling Guyana s marmite Black pudding with mango sour & mauby to go With an alluring aroma when ocean breeze blow You will always find her with a smile on her face

6 And big delicious black pudding rolls in her case Black pudding on greaseproof paper in your hand To relish from that lady with the black pudding stand

7 YELLOW IS A FINE COLOR Yellow hibiscus, roses, sunflower and marigold Bloom of many orchids of beautiful El Dorado Gold of the Porknocker are some of its treasures Peppers, pumpkin and plantains for your pleasure Yellow is the colors of some fruit juices so sweet

8 Orange, simitoo, banana, awarra and guava to eat Yellow is the warm kisses of life -giving sunlight And soft cannas petals with droplets shining bright

9 Blue-backed Manakin Chiroxiphia pareola Little blue bird So quiet, hardly heard Adorable & like a nun Perched in morning sun Nature made more divine Blue bird of Guyana enshrine

10 CREEK-WATER FRESHNESS Renewal of souls in creek-water bless Treasures of sweet El Dorado, so fresh The rays shines on their faces so bright Shampoo cleansing in the morning light Hold them closer and sing to them a song Little sweetness & only children for so long

11 THE OLD TIME OUTHOUSE- Bartica The countryside is nice but for the outhouse or pot & the not so good old days when you had to squat Imagine the rain falling or a dark Guyana s night Answering nature s call with a lamp or torch light Yes, I remember so well those not so good old days

12 And cherish the modern & more comfortable ways I love history and embrace our heritage with pride But for all the gold would not trade my throne inside

13 ANGELS IN THE SAND Bashful children of the Guyana sun Games of the sand and so much fun A boat for a toy from a cucurite tree A simple toy for the young and free

14 Into the sand with toes they wiggles Soft happy voices with sweet giggles Natural their world without plastic toy But still playing in the sand with joy Simple amusement in Rupununi s sand Angels molding dreams with their hands

15 GIANT RIVER OTTER With belly flops and somersaulting play Guyana s otter enjoys the slippery day Sleekest & gliding on the muddy shore Searching the waters for fish and more Webbed feet to paddle and tail to steer Barking with razor sharp teeth that tears Water Dog, as it is called, looks for lunch And to the shores he swims for the crunch

16 A COOP FOR CHICKS- Guyana Alongside the house there s a little pen A cozy coop for creole chicks & a hen A home for little chicks warm & close To cuddle with one they love the most

17 In the daytime they run around outside Or on their mother hen s back for a ride Peeping aloud when the hen finds a bug And in the coop to sleep where it s snug

18 TEETH OF A PIRANHA- Iwokrama- Guyana Within the dark waters of Guyana s south The drama of fishing & a piranha s mouth Razor sharp teeth took both bait and hook Red eyes waiting to bite, just take one look

19 Watching, ready & wanting to take a chomp Drifting fingers and the story of that stump

20 YELLOW BIRD-(Yellow Oriole) Pretty yellow bird sitting in a tree Sing that sweet song of life for me Messenger of divinity & soft plume Woo blessings & remove the gloom Oh beautiful is my Guyana so yellow A dear feathery friend and a fine fellow

21 MISTY MORNING - Guyana Songbirds announced end of a jungle night Within the mist we see the first rays of light Water droplets kisses the air & we can see Soft ripples on the surface where fishes flee In the distance trees, howler monkeys yawn Twinkles of life floating with the misty morn River valley of tranquilly and lush vegetation An unfolding misty morning for a meditation THE END
