1 DISS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB LTD Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on May 24 th 2017 There were 33 members of the club present. 1.Apologies: Will Foote, Joe English, Tony Alston, Steve Smith and John McLauchlan The Meeting 2.Considered and approved the minutes of the previous meeting. Terry Cracknell proposed to accept, seconded by Sid Easton 3. Matters Arising None 4. President s Report Having narrowly missed out on promotion in the previous 2 seasons, we finally got there this season not only the 1st XV, 2nd and 3rd teams also gaining promotion in their respective leagues. Testament not only to the players but the coaching team of Dave Smith as head coach and Steve Hudson and Alistair Shepherd as DOR, and Si Cooper and John Prentice who have done a tremendous job. 1st XV unbeaten at home in league for 3 seasons. The future of our club lies with the junior section and I am pleased to say that we have an extremely vibrant collection of players and parents alike, watched over by the ever efficient Chairman of the junior section Andy Jermy. The pre match lunches continue to be an extremely vital source of revenue for the club and a very enjoyable occasion for all. On behalf of the Club I would like to extend a huge thank you to Steve Smith and his team. Unfortunately, due to ongoing treatment Steve will be reducing his commitments for next season. I am pleased to report that we have continued to actively improve the club and its facilities having completed the gym and acoustics within the club, we are well on the way with the floodlight project and improving the meeting room / snug bar. However, we must continue to look at all angles of raising money for not only these projects, but the general day to day running of the Club 3½k- 4k per week to run the Club. A sobering figure. I will finish my report by saying my Presidents tenure of the last 3 years has been (mostly) very enjoyable, and I have been privileged to work alongside a 1st class active executive committee, club officers and volunteers, it has been a great honour and I wish Paul all the very best in his role as President 5. Financial Report as attached. Terry Cracknell propsed to adopt, Seconded by Graham Cross 6. Playing Reports There was no 1st XV report submitted. 2 nd XV report as attached 3rd XV Benny Goodman thanked Denny Harrison for the bar during the season and also Tony Alston for the slush fund. 9 1. Results Diss Saracens Report By Adam Goymour Diss 2 nd XV Captain Season 2016/17 League: Eastern Counties Greene King League Division Two North Wins: 14 (Biggest win against Norwich Medics on ) (50 11). Draws: 2 (Against Norwich Union + North Walsham) Losses: 2 (Against Fakenham + Norwich 2 s) Points: 70 Finish place: 2 nd Top Scorer: Adam Goymour # Team Pl HW HD HL AW AD AL W D L F A Diff Pts Adj 1. Fakenham Diss Norwich Medics North Walsham Gt Yarmouth-Broadland Norwich Union Norwich Wymondham West Norfolk Dereham Player s player of the season: Nick Garnham (Captain for 2017/18) Vice-Captain: Adam Williamson 2. Captain s Feedback Positives: Diss Saracens had a young dynamic team who have been hungry all season, with the help of senior players. For the start of the season anyway, as this unfortunately diminished just before Christmas with the Horne brothers, Zac Seward and Adam Williamson hardly playing if at all after this time. Challenges: AG used over 50 players to manage getting a side out each week, meaning there was hardly any consistency with exception of Flankers, full back and a couple of other forwards and maybe 2 backs at best. Training An ever going concern. Need more buy-in that 2 nd XV players will get an opportunity in the 1 st xv to help this. Dave has started to include many youth players which is great and an occasional 2 nd xv. I agree we need training ticked off, but we need to embrace the 2 nd xv further with why and that they will not be just a tackle bag at training.
10 Requests: A Full-time Coach, as a captain or senior players have not the time or willingness to do this, when they have other duties/responsibilities. This for me is what is required to provide the 1 st XV with a good selection of readymade players from the 2 nd XV. It seems since being a player at Diss RFC for over 13 years now with 11 years in Adult Rugby that every season, there is no strong link between the 1 s and 2 s and all teams are separate with their own agenda s rather than playing as a club. It was mentioned to me before starting as captain, the 2 nd XV captain is the hardest job. Why? a) You get players pulled from the 1 st XV b) You get players from the 3 s but not on a basis where you get the players you want, which is not how it should be. No offence to Benny, as he does a sterling job. It just concerns me, now we are going up with all 3 sides. We are going to find it pretty tough next season, with at least one side dropping straight back down a league in my humble opinion without a doubt unless things change. For me, the 2 nd xv matches next year will be as enjoyable as when i played my first 1 st XV season when we were in National 3 at our highest ever league we have been in at the club and getting hammered every game losing by big margins. If not a coach, what is the alternative option? I fully appreciate the club has to run with many other priorities. But we are here to play rugby and for me to enjoy it, you need the support in a bigger way for the 2 nd XV which can only help injury problems for the 1 st XV when you have a solid 2 nd XV squad vying to play for the 1 st XV and pushing to do this and the support to run the 2 nd xv properly with a coach or designated person to push the players on. But they need the passion from above that they are inclusive of the bigger picture and that they are needed.
11 Diss RFC Youth Report 2017 Under 16 s With a squad of only 16 boys we have struggled for numbers all year, but with at least 12 at training most weeks they have been a very dedicated team. The season started well at the Norwich tens where we won 6 out of 8 teams including both Holt teams. The 15 aside season also started well with a 38-0 win over Southwold but against the larger squads we often ran out of steam late in games as they were able to bring on fresh legs, whilst our team played the full match. With exceptionally committed tackling no one over ran us and we won almost every match against the squads of similar size. We picked up some silverware at the end of season in the Ipswich 7 s and as runner up in the Norfolk Plate final which was only proper reward for a great season. Under 15 s Another good season for the U15 s. Our numbers remain a steady 24 Boys. We started off the season off with an evening match against Culford as a friendly and won, the winning streak continued throughout, although we did have some teams disappointingly cancel on us I managed to find other games. We went through to the Norfolk cup with ease and only narrowly lost to Holt in the semis We ended the season with coming away with the Bowl at the Colchester festival. We have one boy who now plays for Saracens and is going through their program, two boys were offered a rugby scholarship for Culford, and we have 2 boys who are in the Leicester Tigers Dpp - so we have talented little squad - but they still remain faithful to the rest of the team. Under 14 s Have maintained their numbers and really enjoy their rugby. They narrowly missed out in qualifying for the Norfolk Cup but stepped in at the last minute to replace Norwich RFC in the plate finals at Holt. Under 13 s Diss is the largest under 13 squad in the County with over 33 boys having played for the club at this age group. The Eastern Counties Under 13 festivals were tiered and we got both team Wyatt and Team Gaze into the top 5 teams from 10 participating. Both sides performed well and will be amalgamated into one for next season. Two boys have been selected for the Tigers DPP programme, Ben Waters and Joe Jermy 23 boys went on the tour to Pocklington and York themed as the Diss Oinkers a new breed. The last game of the tour against York was the finest game they have ever played and a fitting end to the season Vixens The Vixens coaching and management team have done tremendously well in recruitment and retention of players. Next season they will have sufficient numbers at each age group to compete against other clubs and are targeting fixtures in their own name rather than as a collective with other clubs. The establishment and growth of the Vixens is to be applauded.
12 Minis The minis have grown in numbers again and have had many notable successes at festivals and in friendlies. The under 7 s have in Andy Thorpe, Ox and Tony Wigby probably the most experienced coaching team in the county. All the age groups have improved their numbers through the season and this bodes well for the start of next. Ian Cattermole and Paul Lewis will jointly lead the minis from September and I have every confidence that the minis will go from strength to strength under their leadership.
