Under 14 teams from Ireland and the UK took part. Congratulations to the Sneem/Templenoe team, pictured above, who beat Dulwich Harps in the final on Saturday 11th July. 4 Page 4 Sneem Family Festival Sneem Family Festival is taking place from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th July. This year is our biggest year of events and activities with over 60 events to suit all ages, young or old. This is YOUR festival, so please come and support it. Help is Required during the Festival. Could you spare an hour or so to help supervise an event, e.g. Crab Fishing, Lake Fishing, Sand Art, Sewing or Weaving Workshops, etc.? If you can help, please contact a Committee Member or call into the Events Office. Festival Photography Competition There will be a prize for the best festival photo. Please your photos to sneemfamilyfestival@gmail.com or download them in the Sneem Events Office. Winner will be announced in the next edition of the Sneem Community Notice Board and the winning photo will feature on the Sneem Family Festival website. Crab Fishing on Wednesday at 11am Meet at the Oysterbed Pier, children must wear lif e-jackets and have parental supervision. Start thinking about your costumes for the Children s Fancy Dress on Wednesday, the Nautical Walk on Friday and the Raft Race on Saturday. Sneem s Got Talent Variety Show Following on from last year s success Sneem s Got Talent will take place on the Festival Stage on Thursday evening from 7pm - 10pm. This is a talent show for children aged 5-12 years and teenagers from years. All are welcome to come along and display their talents, so get practicing your dancing, singing, playing, recitations, stand-up comedy, juggling and any other talents you may be hiding. Entry is FREE and there will be prizes for individuals and groups. Lake Fishing on Friday Meet at the Long Lake (Lough Fada) at Tahilla at 11am. Bring your own rods, lines, hooks, floats and bait. Adult supervision is required and life jackets should be worn. An adult can cast out the line but the child must reel in the fish. Auction for Alzheimer's This year Artists have painted Keepsake Boxes which will be auctioned on Saturday night 25th July by Senator Mark Daly. Money raised will be going to Rock Mount Day Centre, Kilgarvan. Céilí Dance One of our new events this year is the Céilí Dance which will take place on Saturday 25th July after the auction. Music by Neil O Donnell with Féar an Tí Cllr Dan McCarthy. So get your dancing shoes on!!

5 Sneem Family Festival Raft Race One of the highlights of this year s festival will be the raft race on Saturday afternoon. Time: 1pm- 2pm. 20 for a team of 4. Book your Raft in the day before in the Festival Office. Or call Make your own raft and race across the river from Sneem Rowing Club. Rules Construction... Rafts can be built before day and brought to the event or constructed on site with the gates opening at 10am to allow this (please allow enough time). Rafts to be taken away after the event. Rafts are to be paddled by a least 4 people on the raft, with enough buoyancy to allow this, paddles do not need to be homemade. No outboards or engines. Rafts should be safe for the people on them and the river, therefore sharp nails, edges or barrels with chemicals that have not been washed out, loose polystyrene pieces etc are to be not used please. Time Gates open at 10am, Safety briefing all teams are to be there please for this. Race Starts at 1pm. Rafts have to be on slipway by this time. Rafters All rafters have to be 16+, must be water competent, i.e can swim in whilst dressed and wearing a buoyancy aid. All rafters are asked to have: - CE marked buoyancy aids or life jackets.windproof tops. No Shell Suit bottoms. Race - The course will be given at the safety briefing Viewing - Best viewing from Sneem Pier. Only Rafters allowed in the Boat House Property. Pet Show The Pet Show takes place in the Festival Tent on Sunday 26th July. Registration is at 12 noon and judging at 12.30pm sharp. Categories are Best Young Pet under 1 year old, Friendliest Pet, Best Handled Pet by a child, Best Overall Pet. Entry fee is 3 per category. Garden & Home Produce Competition Gardeners, Flower Arrangers and Home Bakers are invited to participate in another event taking place on Sunday 26th July as part of the Village Fête. Categories are Junior (U12) and Senior. Categories this year include: Miniature Garden, Flower Arrangement, Home Grown Vegetable Display, Biggest Vegetable, Homemade Soda Bread, Scones, Queen Cakes, Apple Pies, Cakes, etc, Homemade Jam, Honey, Pickles and Chutney. Please bring your exhibits to the Festival Tent by 2pm, judging is at 2.30pm sharp. Entry fee is 3 for Adults, Children free. Proceeds to Sneem Gardeners. Page 5

Last year, the tournament was a huge success raising all of which was donated to the Irish Cancer Society. This year, all the funds will be donated to The Marymount Hospice in Cork to help them continue their amazing work. This year we have teams coming from all over Kerry and Munster and it will be a fantastic day of football and fun! Its a great day out for the family - with loads to do for kids! There is no entrance fee - just whatever you can donate to the charity. The teams will be registering at 10am so games will kick off at 11am. 7 Blackwater News Trip to Kilkenny Blackwater Women s Group are planning a trip to Kilkenny in October for two nights, they are checking hotel deals at present and will be making reservations shortly. This trip is open to men and women, everyone interested to give their name to Mary in Blackwater Tavern and a deposit is to be paid when making the booking. Drama For Love or Money The Annual Blackwater Drama Production had six sell out nights over two weekends in May/June. SKY TV covered the event this year, it was shown on Sky 191, Irish TV, Kerry Matters and can be seen online any time if you missed it at Many thanks to all who supported the event including Arthur O'Connor, Blackwater and George Kelly, Beaufort for facilitating Big Bertha s guest appearance in the play. 700 raised in the raffle is being donated to a the Kerry Cancer Support Group/Kerry Cork Health Link Bus, in memory of Jerome O Leary who raised money for cancer research with Big Bertha for many years. 8 Sneem Rowing Club The first regatta of the season was held last Sunday, 12th July in Cromane. The club had 4 crews in the water and all won their races. We had U12 boys, U14 Boys, U16 Boys and Minor Girls. Well done to all crew and coxes.
