5 5 BOYS HURLING COMPETITION RULES 2018 PLEASE TEACH PLAYERS TO RESPECT REFEREES ALWAYS. 1. Groups may be played in blitz form or game by game., who is generally from Schools numbered as 1 in each Group has the final say in group playing format but she / he should consult with the other teams first. 2. Group games should start immediately after Easter. All Groups to be completed by the end of May preferably or Wednesday 6th June at latest. All Finals on Thursday June 14 th. 3. Girls can only play on Boys Teams up to and including 7 a side, ie 5, 6 & 7 a side. (We expect however that schools will field an all boys team if their numbers allow as the girls have their own competition) 4. Normal rules of hurling apply except: a) NO solo allowed including NO tap. A free against the player s team is awarded if this happens as it is considered a foul. b) ball travelling in the air can be controlled into the hand using the hurley, c) goalkeeper to take all puck-outs, d) score from puck-out is not allowed. e) no penalties. These rules should be adhered to in the correct spirit of the game also. 5. Unlimited substitution from halfway line is permitted with referee s permission. 6. Top team in each group qualifies for the Final to be played in Lárionad, Loughgeorge on Thursday June 14 th No change of this date is possible. Games will be 20 minutes each half for 9 a side, 11 a side and 13 a side Finals. Games will be 15 minutes each half for 5 a side, 6 a side and 7 a side Finals. 7. N.B. Group results to be sent to Seán Holian (text ) or seanholian@eircom.net or Cyril Mannion at cyrilrmannion@gmail.com (text to ) 8. For Finals, all qualified schools must a numbered list with dates of birth to Sean (seanholian@eircom.net) and each player must wear the correct numbered jersey. 9. Juvenile (Size 4) sliotars must be used in all games 10. All players must wear helmets with face guards. 11. Referees for group games are the responsibility of participating schools. Generally the Away team provides the referee unless by agreement. It is strongly recommended by the Hurling Committee that experienced referees who know the rules and can implement fair play are appointed for all matches. Respect should be shown at all times to referees and to the opposition. This should be emphasised by Principals and all Teachers involved with teams. An Coiste Iomána will appoint neutral referees for all Finals in Loughgeorge. NB A Teacher must be present at every match involving their school to ensure insurance requirements are fulfilled.
