Nam Dinh Province It is a community project under the FIBOZOPA project. It help generate income for the hardcore poor villagers. Idea was to buy some fish for the villagers to grow then RIA 1 has the permission to conduct experiment on the fish. This trip is to have an experiment about cercaria. Fish is collected for analyse after 1 month of rearing by the farmer.
Field trip is on the 6 th 7 th of May. Visited an Old Traditional Indian Carp hatchery to check on the fry. Brought 10 cups of fry Distributed to 3 different farmer with 1 as a controlled sample Experiment is to be continued in another month.
RIA 1- Freshwater Hatchery Tilapia Common Carp Catfish Climbing perch
Tilapia The culture of tilapia is easy and does not involve any hormon. Tilapia is put into a big hapa with the ratio of 1 male : 2 female. About 50 males are in each big hapa. Fry or egg is collected every 2 weeks from the mouth of the female. Egg or fry is put into a incubator with running recycled water for 3-5 days until the yolk is used up Fry is then transferred to a small hapa in the pond and is feed with monosex hormone feed for 20 days.
Sale of Tilapia Fry After 21 days of treatment to monosex male fry in pond. Fry is brought into the hatchery for weighing and grading. 50g of fry is taken and is counted. The number of fry is divided. One tea cup of fry cost 150vnd
Common Carp Broodstock is collected from the pond. Matured carp of 3-4 years is taken. During collection, abdomen is pressed to check the maturity of the eggs. Yellowish-green egg is taken into the hatchery for stocking At 8pm at night, hormon is injected into the underside pectoral fin. Hormone used: Luteotropin Releasing Hormoned (LRH) Mofirum-M
Matured fish is selected from the pond. Fish is injected with mixture of hormone FSH and Mofirum-M.
Hormone table First Injection- 8pm Female Male 10 Mofirum-M 2 LRH Nil Second Injection- 2am Female Male 40 Mofirum-M 8 LRH 5 Mofirum-M 1 LRH Mixture is mixed well and is injected at the dosage of 30-40mg for 1kg of fish.
Striping At 8am the next morning, fish is check for maturity and is strip. Pressure is applied at the abdomen to release the egg. Egg is collected and is mix with the sperm of the male. Both egg and sperm is mixed well with chicken feather. Little water is added to smoothe it. 10% pineapple juice premix with water is added to remove the stickyness of the egg. Stir for 10 minutes. Eggs are wash with clean water and is put into the incubator for 3 days.
After 6hours, strip fish Sperm is added Stir thoroughly Eggs are placed into incubator
Sale of Common Carp Fry is taken out of the incubator. Fry is put into a small tea cup estimated to have around 50,000 fry. Every cup cost 500,000vnd. A maximum of 5 cups of fry is put into the plastic bag and is tied up with oxygen for transportation.
Catfish- Hemibagrus elongatus Common name- Cá lăng Market Value vnd/kg High price is due to over fishing and the requirement of culture this species is very high. Need clean clear water
Some hatchery in action of induced breeding of catfish
Breeding and Restocking Adult fish is brought from the the farmer. Preferable of age 3 years and above. Hormone premix of Luteotropin Releasing Hormoned (LRH) and Mofirum-M is used. Hormone is injected at the underside pectoral fin of the fin. 1ml for every 3kg fish. Inject 2 time with the interval time of 12 hours.
Eggs incubation Selection of bad eggs Sew back Male Testis
Leave for 1 day and begin stripping for the egg. Male fish is dissected to remove the testis and later on is sew back. Egg and sperm is mixed and is added a lit tanin extract from green tea to reduce the stickiness. Fertilized egg is put into a tray with running water for 2 days or 60 hours. Fry will hatch and will ingest yolk sac for 3days. Fry is moved to a glass tank for 15days. Fry is feed with zooplankton for 1 week and worm for the next week. For the 15 th - 60 th day, fine grain feed is use and a mixture of trash fish.
Sale of Catfish Fry is collected from the glass tanks and is put into plastic bags for transport. 5,000 vnd for every 2g fry 150,000 vnd for every thumbsize fry estimated to be around 10g. Pack with oxygen gas and transported.
Climbing Perch- Anabas Testudineus 100 male and female anabas is collected from farmers. Hormone is injected under the pectoral fin. Hormone used is 6 tablet of Mofirum-M and 2 Vial of LRH. 1ml for every fish.
Breeding All fish is put together in a circular cement tank and is left for 1 day. Next day, scoop for yellow eggs. Remove the broodstock matured fish from the tank.
Yellow fertilized egg. Broodstock is removed from the tank.
Sale of Perch 5mm fry is collected to be sell. For every cup of fry it cost vnd. Fry is pack into plastic bag and added oxygen for transportation.

Pacific Oyster Culture Crassostrea gigas is brought from the fisherman from the wild. There is 2 method to collect the egg: Let it air dry in tank for 2 days and put back into water (natural induced breeding) Open the shell and take out the ovum and testis manually (manual induced breeding) 20kg broodstock can produce 1 billion eggs. It spends the first year of its attached life as a male, before eventually becoming female.
Fertilized egg is collected and is put into a big tank for culture for days. After 2 days, larvae is feed with various algae 2 time a day: 8 am 3 pm Algae is alternated to provide various nutrient for larvae. When it has grown to around micro meter, substance is added into the tank for the larvae to set. Substance is consist of empty single sided shell on a hanging string. 80 shells per string 200 string per tank.
Substance is being left for 2days in the setting tank. When there is enough spat (20 per shell) attracted to the shell, string of shell is taken out to other tank for grow out. Spat is then taken out and put together in a bigger tank for continuous culture for 7 more days before it is sold. Continuous culture is done at the bamboo cage in 10 days and change to 10shell per string for grow out.
Sale of Pacific Oyster 2 strings of hanging oyster shells are sold at the price of 45,000 vnd. Strings containing spat are taken out from the tank and is transported by boat to Quang Ninh province for continuous grow out in cage system. The survival rate from egg to seed is at 3% and from seed to market size is 70% individual per kilograms cost 30,000vnd per kilo. 8 months is needed to grow to the size of 7-9 cm.
