Supplies: Americana Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher-Matte #70836 Americana Wood Glue #70246 Brushes: Papillon by the Artist s Club GlazeWash, size ¾ #20102 Shader, size 4 #20126; size 6 #20127; size 10 #20130 Liner, size 10/0 #20145; size 2 #20148 Round, size 2 #20158 Preparation: Sand and seal the surface with American Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher-Matte. Sand again when dry and wipe away sanding dust. This will need to be done to the handle as well as the front and back of the shovel. Basecoat the front and back of the shovel with Winter Blue using your ¾ Glaze Wash brush. While the paint on the front is still wet, use your brush to streak across with Williamsburg Blue. Base the top of the handle with Blue Chiffon, the remainder of the handle with Williamsburg Blue. Let dry. Transfer the major lines of the design. Painting Instructions: Daffodil Leaves Hauser Medium Green Using your size 4 Shader, pull in all of the daffodil leaves. Hauser Dark Green Place a shade where one leaf overlaps another, where the stem connects to the flower, along the left side of most of the leaves. Add a center vein line in the larger leaves. Hauser Light Green Float a highlight along the right edge of each leaf. Evergreen Deepen most of the shades, especially near the bottom Primary Yellow Randomly add tints along right edges of leaves Daffodils Primary Yellow Base in the flowers 1

Bright Orange Float a shade where the petals connect to the trumpet, at the base of the trumpet, along the throat of the trumpet and under where the trumpet turns back.

Bright Yellow Place a highlight at the tip of each petal, along the edge of the top petal where it overlaps another and all along the top edge of the trumpet.

3 Bright Orange Float a shade where the petals connect to the trumpet, at the base of the trumpet, along the throat of the trumpet and under where the trumpet turns back. Also, place a float to separate the petals. Bright Yellow Place a highlight at the tip of each petal, along the edge of the top petal where it overlaps another and all along the top edge of the trumpet. Burnt Sienna Deepen the previous shade keeping it smaller. Bright Yellow Add several dots in the center of the throat of the trumpet Tulip Leaves Hauser Light Green Using your size 6 Shader pull in the leaves Hauser Medium Green Place a shade along the left side of the leaves, where one leaf overlaps another, the stems and a vein line down the center of each leaf. Evergreen Deepen the above shades where the leaves overlap, especially near the bottom. Tulips Coral Blush Base in the center tulip Cadmium Red+Coral Blush (2:1) Float a shade on each side of the middle petal, along the bottom and where the back petals form v s at the top. Deep Burgundy Deepen the above shade keeping it smaller Coral Blush + White Float a highlight along each edge of the middle petal, along the top edges of the two side petals and at the top of the two v s formed by the back petals Cadmium Red Base in the remaining tulip and the bud Deep Burgundy On the opened tulip place a shade on each side of the inside middle petal, across the bottom, at the bottom of the v s formed by the back petals and along each of the outer sides. Coral Blush Float a highlight down the edges of the two petals that overlap the large center petal, along the top of the large center petal and at the top of the two petals that form v s from the back petals. The bud is painted the same way as the opened tulip on the left. 2

Lettering Black Green Using your size 2 Liner, add the lettering, the straight lines that define the sections and the curvy lifeline. Place a float along the curved bottom of the shovel.

4 Cadmium Red Base in the bud Deep Burgundy Float a shade alone the bottom where the bud connects to the stem and along the under edge of the petal that has yet to open Coral Blush Place a highlight along the top edge and where the unopened petal overlaps Black Green Using your ¾ Glaze Wash brush, place a float along the bottom of the shovel. Lettering Black Green Using your size 2 Liner, add the lettering, the straight lines that define the sections and the curvy lifeline. Place a float along the curved bottom of the shovel. Blue Chiffon Using your size 10/0 Liner, pull in the curves at the top of the shovel. With your size 2 Round add the strokes at the top of the shovel Finishing: Glue the top of the handle to the long section of the handle and the complete handle to the shovel. When dry, finish with several light coats of Americana Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher-Matte. 3
