We have such a variety of courses and I have a particular fondness for links golf. My parents hail from County Donegal and this county alone boasts fantastic links courses, some of which you will not have heard off. What an event we had at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Ballyliffin last year. If you leave Ballyliffin and head east you will come to Royal Portrush, host of The 148th Open Championship 2019, Portstewart host of the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, and Castlerock, recently redesigned, close by. If you head west you will find some iconic hidden gems - like Portsalon, which boasts a magnificent beach surrounding the course. Then there is Rosapenna where I spent my youth caddying for my dad with two great courses here. As you head south you will come to Donegal Golf Club, a great traditional links and further south the links of Enniscrone and Carne. This is all tremendous golfing terrain and all of these courses are a must play. So for your golf vacation, I have followed the progress of the North and West Coast Links marketing organisation since I first met them in Sweden at The Scandinavian Master over 20 years ago, and I have seen them grow from strength to strength in the intervening years. They work tirelessly in the marketplace, promoting the great links of the area mentioned above, and with the inclusion of County Louth (Baltray) this year, what a remarkable stable of Championship Links courses and a testament to the ongoing success of the group. We look forward to a very exciting and busy year in Ireland in With the recent success of The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Portstewart (2017) and Ballyliffin (2018) under the stewardship of Rory, I now take over the duty for this year at Lahinch, and we look forward to a memorable tournament. Then two weeks later Royal Portrush stage the 148th Open Championship, beginning another chapter in the history of Golf in Ireland. Still hard to believe, while on a personal level, the triumph at Pebble Beach in the US Open gave me that much sought-after Major; sinking the winning putt for Ryder Cup victory for Europe at Celtic Manor made 2010 one of my most memorable years to date. Having grown up in the town of Portrush, a stones throw from Royal Portrush Golf Club, links golf has always been close my heart, and it has played a key role in moulding me into the player I am today. Links golf is a unique and wonderful experience and it asks many questions of the golfer that takes it on. 200 foot sand dunes, rolling fairways, pot bunkers, changing winds, marram grasses every shot in the bag is required. And while the links may triumph on more occasions than not, dramatic and stunning scenery ensures a fantastic experience nonetheless. My home course, Royal Portrush, which has two Championship 18 links; Dunluce and Valley, is only two of a fantastic group of links courses along the west and north west coast of Ireland. Shortly after my US Open victory, I visited Rosapenna Golf Links in North Donegal, and home to two championship links courses Sandy Hills and the Old Tom Morris. Having recently played the former, I truly believe it can hold its own among the great links courses of the world. Royal Portrush and Rosapenna are joined by Ardglass, Portstewart, Ballyliffin, Narin & Portnoo, Donegal, Co. Sligo, Enniscrone, Carne and Connemara in the North & West Coast Links stable.
