6 Chairman s Report The Golf SA Board takes pleasure in presenting its Annual Report for the financial year. During the past 12 months, Golf SA moved its premises from the former SAGA office on Henley Beach Rd, to the North Adelaide Golf Course following the acceptance of a proposal from the Adelaide City Council. This move was made in December 2011 and after a short settling in period, the move has proved to be an outstanding success. Not only is the office an open plan staff friendly environment, but also we have golf course facilities to assist with our Game Development program and this is a major advantage to the Association. The Henley Beach Rd premises were sold and the Board are now planning to secure our financial future. Our golf calendar changed considerably due to the alterations made by Golf Australia to their major events. We were able to reschedule a number of events and thank the Clubs involved who assisted us by understanding our problems. We are continuing to maintain the increases in participation numbers in our events, which will hopefully continue for many years. Thanks go to Christian Puccini and more recently Leah Tattersall for their efforts in organising our events. To Neil Brown and his Match Committee thank you for your help. The High Performance program has achieved success during the past year. The Boys Junior Team was undefeated in the Interstate Series held in Queensland in April. Congratulations to the Team Manager Tony Bourne, the Players and Coach. May this program headed by David Manning and Gareth Jones continue to produce quality players for South Australia. We have now completed the Course Rating for all of our affiliated golf courses throughout the State. This job headed by Tony Bourne and his efficient team of volunteers was finished ahead of time, and from the stories and photographs we have seen maybe he might publish a book on their experiences. My thanks go to our Finance, Audit & Risk Management Committee chaired by Deb Miller along with Board member Bill Klaebe and John Butler have continued to dedicate their expertise to maintain our current financial position. To our CEO and his Staff my thanks for a successful 12 months. There were some difficult times on occasions, but with some restructuring we are now operating better than ever. To my Board, a very big thank you as you has been responsible for some of the most important decisions in our Association. We have been very fortunate that we could work together as a team and good luck in the future. Finally, I am not seeking re-election at this AGM. I have decided after 13 years with SAGA and Golf SA that it is time for me to move on. I feel privileged to have served as Vice President of SAGA, and then been part of the merger of WGSA and SAGA and finally Chair of Golf SA. To all the people I have worked with over that period of time, thank you for your assistance and friendship. I have enjoyed the journey and know that the future of the organization is in very good hands. Gordon Scott Golf SA Chair 6 Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June 2012

7 Chief Executive Officer s Report Change & Challenge is the phrase that best encapsulates the year from the CEO s desk. Golf SA grasped the opportunity to relocate its Office to the North Adelaide Golf Course from the office/house on Henley Beach Road. This major change was accomplished in mid-december. The challenge is to be able to maximise the potential of the new facility to bring new participants to the game of golf and to club membership. Part of this challenge is being met by utilising the facilities at the North Adelaide Golf Course to implement sustainable programs and activities that attract new participants to the game of golf. Building the business requires an innovative approach and the right resources. Done correctly, our Clubs will enjoy a steady flow of new golfers to the ranks of their membership. Technology is a critical part of Golf SA s operations. During the year we were able to implement on-line registration successfully. We have also installed a dedicated customer relationship management (CRM) database to organize our contacts and business processes. These adoptions of current technology have provided a much appreciated convenience to our wider membership. Golf SA s website continues to mature and provide the vital communication link between clubs, individual golfers, the general public and the Association. Where once social media YouTube, Facebook & Twitter was new to us, we now embrace these means of communication as the norm. Our High Performance Program continues to evolve. Team and Individual success during the year indicates that we are on the right track. Thanks to Gareth Jones & Jamie Clutterham (State Coaches) for their determination to introduce the ethos of success to the Program. The Golf Industry - the PGA, Golf Managers Association, Golf Course Superintendent s Association and Golf SA made a powerful statement at the inaugural Golf Industry Awards Night held at the Adelaide Oval in October. We celebrated the achievements in golf of Rhonda Watson, Jane Crafter, Murray Crafter, Bob Tuohy and John Crosby by inducting them into the SA Golf Hall of Fame. We look forward to many more Golf Industry Awards Nights. Golf SA took the opportunity to restructure its staffing with the addition of two trainee positions. Funding from Golf Australia was used to employ a PGA Trainee the first State Association to do so who provides an additional golf coaching resource. Funding from the Office for Recreation & Sport was used to employ an Administrative Trainee adding much needed capacity to the Office. Thanks to my Staff for their support throughout the year, in particular Allan Telford (Development Coach) and Christian Puccini (Competitions Manager). Allan continues to build a strong base for junior and adult development programs across the State. Christian has instilled a level professionalism into our tournament management that is second to none. A special mention to Phil Laurie, who in his brief stint with Golf SA drove the implementation of a strong IT platform as well as introducing the Association to social media. We welcome Margaretann Burgess (Finance & Office Manager) and Leah Tattersall (Competition Manager) to the Golf SA Team. Golf SA acknowledges and thanks Srixon (High Performance Partner), Phil Hoffman Travel (Corporate/Team Travel), the Adelaide City Council and the Office for Recreation & Sport. 8 Finance Audit & Risk Management Report The Golf SA Financial Report to the AGM consists of the audited Financial Report 1/7/11 30/6/12. The result for the 12 month period was a profit of $92,019 (comparable to a loss of $24,367 for FY 10-11), from revenue of $1,109,291 ($850,012 for FY 10-11). Comparatives include a one-off gain attributable to the profit on the sale of land & buildings at 249 Henley Beach Road, Torrensville. Affiliation fee income was slightly higher, reflective of an increase in affiliation fees, despite lower reported membership numbers of 26,211 for 2012 compared with 27,148 for Overall the financial result is slightly lower than our budgets mainly due to additional costs associated with course ratings, technology around IT/communications/competition management and on-costs of relocation to North Adelaide. The business has a solid financial reporting system and budgets linked to its strategic objectives. Each sub-committee is responsible to profit & loss budgets as approved by the Board. The charts below highlight the breakdown of income and expenditure. 9 Over 65% of our revenue is from combined affiliation fees. The Office for Recreation and Sport StEP Grant for FY was an expected $100,000 same as prior year. The Board continues to look for sponsorship to increase the overall income stream. On the expenses side, almost 25% goes to Golf Australia, and it is pleasing to see major national initiatives around the promotion of club membership, development of a coordinated social golfer strategy and major generic marketing campaign. The Board has defined and prioritised its strategic objectives and developed an Operation Plan for , which has been allocated appropriate budgets and staffing resources. A priority for Golf SA is to support clubs to increase membership and increase exposure to the game. The Golf SA Balance Sheet remains strong, with net tangible assets of $1,655,324 being reported as at 30 June Surplus funds are invested in several financial assets earning market interest rates. Golf SA provides monthly management reporting against budgets, monthly cash flows and key performance indicators. We have a strong cash position. The Board will put in a financial strategy to secure the capital assets of Golf SA for future revenue generation. The last twelve months has seen some new staffing additions to Golf SA, broadening our experience and skill set as well as adding two trainees to our team, one funded through Golf Australia, the other a significant contribution by the Government. Golf SA extends its appreciation to the Government of South Australia, which through the Office for Recreation and Sport continues to support not only the State Sporting Organisation, but also assists clubs and districts through a range of individual grants for grass roots activities in golf development. I would like to thank John Butler and Bill Klaebe for their contribution to the Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee. I would also like to thank our Staff for their support. 11 Match Committee Report This year has again been very busy with Golf SA seeking to balance its list of Championships and Events within an increasingly complex schedule driven by a number of factors. Match Committee continues to engage its Member Clubs and appreciates the constructive comment and input. Golf SA strives to strike a balance between these competing factors especially when it involves changes to schedules from Golf Australia s national program and beyond. An example of this was the re-scheduling of two Vardon events being scheduled prior to Christmas. The introduction of the Mi-Tournament on-line registration has been a success for Golf SA and its Members. Mi-Tournament enables Golf SA to have significantly better administrative management of factors such as the closing time for entries and prompt payment of entry fees. On-line registration together with e-entry Forms sent direct to previous participants provides a convenience that individuals appreciate. These convenience factors could explain almost every event held by Golf SA has recorded an increase in participation. From Men s Country Week to Golf SA Open Days to Junior events to Women s Open Week more of our Members are playing State events and Championships. Golf SA hosted the 2012 Australian Teams Event (Interstate Series) in addition to our normal State events. Sincere thanks to the West Lakes Golf Club and Royal Adelaide Golf Club who hosted the Women s event and the Men s event respectively. The golf courses were superbly turned out and the hospitality outstanding. The Golf SA Classic and Rene Erichsen Salver hosted by the Glenelg Golf Club were a huge success again this year. Both events drew record entries of the best amateur golfers in Australia. The winners Chris Brown (The Grange Golf Club) and Breanna Elliott (Yarrawonga Golf Club) are to be congratulated on their success. The State Men s and Women s Amateur Championships qualifying rounds were held at Mt. Osmond and Flagstaff Hill Golf Club respectively. Chris Brown (The Grange Golf Club) and Caitlin Roberts (Royal Adelaide Golf Club) were deemed SA Medallists as the leading qualifiers. The Match Play section was held at The Grange Golf Club and provided some of the most enthralling and dramatic golf for players and spectators alike. Seventeen year old Jack Williams (The Grange Golf Club) defeated Brad Moules (Royal Adelaide Golf Club) on the 38th hole. Nadine Smith (Royal Perth Golf Club) defeated 14 year old Cassidy Evreniadis (The Grange Golf Club) 3 &1. Jack Williams and Nadine Smith proving worthy winners of the 2012 SA Amateur championship. Pennant golf was again another great tight competition in all divisions and congratulations go to the successful Clubs in their respective divisions and to the Clubs who gained promotion for next year s Pennant season. To all the successful winners of State Championships and Events this year, well done. Golf SA is extremely fortunate to have an increasing group of Volunteers (Starters, Rules Officials, Scorers) who provide their time to assist in running these events successfully. Our thanks also go the Clubs their Members who give up their golf courses to support the program that Golf SA conducts. My thanks go to the two Competition Managers this year Christian Puccini, (now Communications Manager) and his newly appointed replacement Leah Tattersall for their tireless coordination of all the events it is greatly appreciated. My thanks also to all the Golf SA Staff and my committee, Tony Bourne, Jenny Butcher, Bob Crosby, Sue Hedley, Steve Hayes and John Ward for all of your assistance and guidance to making the Committee work so well together. 12 Country Committee Report The Country Committee met twice during the year. A third meeting was planned but as there were no urgent matters to be discussed it was decided to cancel that meeting. I personally attended 5 of our 8 District Annual General Meetings at which both myself and our CEO Chris Luz- Raymond were invited to address the delegates and answer questions relating to Golf SA and District matters. It is also proposed by Golf SA to hold Captain s Days at various Districts throughout the coming year as part of a wider communication process. During the year a High Performance Program was conducted by Jamie Clutterham (Assistant State Coach) for talented Country golfers at the Renmark Golf Club. The five golfers who attended underwent an intensive program devised by Jamie. These players now have the opportunity to attend a follow-up coaching session in Adelaide conducted by Jamie. As part of the Golf SA development pathway I would encourage Districts & Clubs to identify talented junior Country golfers and encourage them to nominate for the Talent ID Program. The Men s Country Week was particularly well supported with the best overall fields in four years playing. Our sincere appreciation is extended to the four Sandbelt Clubs and their members for hosting these events. The possibility of the Women s Country Championships being played similarly at the four Sandbelt Clubs was discussed but due to the lack of support will not go ahead in the immediate future. The Sandgreens Championships held at Tumby Bay Golf Club saw record numbers participating, with the format of playing both A & B Division on the same golf course proving popular. Deb Christie Womens Country Champion Tumby Bay Golf Club is to be congratulated on the presentation of their course and hospitality extended to all who attended. Country Junior Golfers were involved in the Country Junior Championships (Port Augusta Golf Club), the Junior Sandgreens (Port Broughton) and the Brett Ogle Cup (Mt Gambier Golf Club). I would encourage all Districts and Clubs to support Junior Golf SA by ensuring all Juniors are signed up as members. Our Juniors today will be the leaders of our Clubs in the future. Finding enough Community Coaches who have the time to give to this program is perhaps our biggest challenge in the Country. However, several Districts have been able to establish a very active Community Coaching program and success in the South East District is proof that the Community Coaching Program works. Tim Atze Mens Country Champion Membership numbers in the Country overall have fallen with only two Districts recording slight increases. Membership retention and promotion of the game and club membership should be a high priority of all Country Clubs & Districts. Assistance in membership marketing is available through Golf SA. This coming year Golf SA intends to promote the game of golf through Golf Month. The Northern District is to be congratulated on an initiative it introduced to motivate and support their Clubs to promote the game of golf and recruit members. Northern District Chair Michael Krieger gave a short presentation on their membership marketing campaign at our April Meeting. 13 Technical Committee Report Course Rating and Handicapping In the period July to September 2011, the ratings of the final 41 courses to be assessed under the USGA Course rating system were completed. The final details of the special considerations for sand green courses were advised by Golf Australia and appropriate adjustments made. All clubs have been notified of their new scratch ratings and a final audit to ensure that there is consistency between the new rating figures and Golflink has recently been completed. The USGA Course Rating System requires all courses to be re-rated within a 10 year timeframe (5 years for new courses) and a draft plan has been developed to ensure that this is able to be completed. An initial re-rating was completed in late June and another club has expressed a desire for a review of their ratings to be undertaken due to changes in their course this is likely to be in September. I have attended two meetings of the Golf Australia National Course Rating Committee. In conjunction with the most recent meeting, Golf Australia conducted an on course audit at Moonah Links Golf Course. Julie Michelmore and Susan Seja were able to attend this session and obtain accreditation as National Level Course Raters. On June 1 this year Golf Australia advised all clubs of changes that have already been made to the Handicapping System in Australia (Best 8 of 20, Anchor, Immediate updating of handicaps and no lapsed handicaps). Still to be implemented, and predicted to be in the latter part of 2013, are the following: Daily scratch rating, Slope, Stableford Handicapping Adjustment, Handicapping of Conforming Social scores, Handicapping of 4-Ball scores and Changed 9 hole regulations. Course Raters Full details may be seen on the Rules and Handicapping/Handicapping & Course Rating/News & Communication page of the Golf Australia web site. My thanks are extended to all those golfers around the state who assisted during the Course rating program in the two years since it began in October Rules In the period under review a total of five Introductory Level 1 Rules presentations have been made (4 Metropolitan, 1 South East) and three Level 2 (Metropolitan, South East, Mid North) for those considering seeking Club Level Rules accreditation have also bee undertaken. With the shift of the Golf SA offices to North Adelaide, the Metropolitan presentations have all been made in the central location. Dates have already been confirmed for a further four sessions to be held in the second half of this year (2 Metropolitan, 1 Murraylands, 1 Southern). With changes for the Rules of Golf for the period of , the Rules subcommittee took a decision to adopt the Golf Australia examination system. A total of 64 people have sat the Club Level exam, with 31 successfully completing the exam to date. In October 2011, the first State Level Accreditation program was held in Adelaide with Barbara Capper, Susan Seja, John Thomas and Arthur Wade successfully attaining accreditation as State Level Rules officials. The Rules Committee has also developed a policy of seeking expressions of interest from those with Club Level Rules Accreditation to be paired with experienced Rules officials at major Golf SA events to enable them to gain further experience. My thanks are extended to the members of the Rules subcommittee and all those that volunteered to help on course at some time during the year. 14 High Performance Committee Report The HPP Programme In previous Annual Reports it was stated that we would incorporate a program for the development of players with more sports sciences support and emphasis in the area of mental management, exercise physiology, nutrition, biomechanics, physiotherapy and sports medicine. The Golf SA High Performance & Development Program provides a defined development pathway and program to enable talented golfers to achieve their individual goals. The Golf SA High Performance & Development Program leads to the National High Performance Program conducted by Golf Australia With the assistance of Brad James (Golf Australia National HP Coach) our State Coach, Gareth Jones continues to implement Programs within the Pathway. These Programs are beginning to show positive results such as success at the recent Junior Interstate Series. The Programs continues to be refined and developed. In Golf SA has introduced a Development Squad Program that targets talented golfers with development potential. These golfers will receive a sound grounding in sports medicine, sports psychology, strength & conditioning, physiotherapy and 3D biomechanics specific to golf. Golf SA has formed a Men s Squad, Boys Squad and Women s/girls Squad as part of the Development Squad Program. These Squads of roughly ten players each will receive session from the various Service Providers during the period from July to December. It is proposed to hold a session for parents to assist their understanding of the psychology of dealing with young athletes. Success of the Pathway and its Programs will be measured against individual/team results and selection for various National Squads. National Squads & National Rankings (In the Top 40) Currently, South Australia has one player, Anthony Murdaca, in a National Squad. A number of players are ranked in the Top 40 of various national Ranking categories: Men Women Ranking Name Ranking Name 15 Brad Moules 8 Emma Ash 17 Chris Brown 28 Caitlin Roberts 29 Tom Bond Junior Boys Junior Girls Ranking Name Ranking Name 5 Anthony Murdaca 14 Jenny Lee 15 Kieren Barratt 24 Rachel Taylor 19 Jack Williams 25 Acacia Curtis 21 Ben Stowe 26 Kristalle Blum 33 Matthew Lisk 28 Elysia Yap State Teams Golf SA State Teams enjoyed varying degrees of success throughout the year. Our Junior Boys Team won the Interstate Series held at Bribie Island Golf Club, Qld in April They recorded the rare feat of being undefeated during the tournament. The Junior Girls Team is in a development phase finishing 5th at their event at Carbrook Golf Club, Qld. On a positive note a number of individual players show potential. Due to a change in the Golf Australia competition program two Men s and two Women s Interstate Series were held in the year. In September 2011 the Men s Team finished 4th and the Women s Team finished 5th. In May 2012 the Men s Team finished a credible 4th at Royal Adelaide Golf Club with the Women s Team 5th at West Lakes Golf Club. State Team Selection Policy With future Men s & Women s Interstate Series to be held in May it has become necessary to review the manner in which State Teams are selected. In the past an Order of Merit system based on State Championship, Vardon and National Ranking Event results was used as a major criteria for Team selection. As the majority of these events will not be held prior to the selection of the State Team a new selection policy will be developed to meet our requirements. 14 Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June 2012

15 South Australian Junior Boys 2012 State Team National Champions State Coaches & High Performance Service Providers Our State Coaching staff of Gareth Jones (State Coach), Jamie Clutterham (Assistant State Coach) and Allan Telford (Development Coach) have been instrumental in developing and implementing a High Performance Pathway that provides opportunity for our elite golfers. Thanks also to Brad James (Golf Australia High Performance Director) for his continuing guidance, advice and encouragement in this area. Golf SA has engaged a number of highly credentialed and experienced Service Providers for its Programs including Ryan Lumsden (3D Biomechanics), Greg Rosenbauer (Physiotherapy), Rosie Stanimirovic (Sports Psychology) and Daniel Kirk (Strength & Conditioning). Their services add significantly in terms of sports medicine and sports science to our Programs. Srixon Australia Sponsorship Golf SA acknowledges the tremendous support provided by Srixon in the form of golf equipment (golf balls and consumables, golf bags for State Teams and a range of other products). This equipment is a valuable contribution to the various development programs and activities conducted by Golf SA. The Future I am very confident that golf in South Australia will improve as the benefits of the High Performance Pathway and Programs filter through the ranks of our talented golfers. There continues to be a number of junior golfers, both male and female, who have been identified for development. This will not occur overnight but if the selected players have the same dedication as the State and Assistant Coaches it will occur sooner rather than later. Conclusion I would like to thank the following for their assistance throughout the year: Members of the High Performance Committee Deb Christie, Karen Simmonds, Tony Bourne & Robert Crosby Fellow Golf SA Board Members Gareth Jones (State Coach), Jamie Clutterham (Assistant State Coach), Allan Telford (Development Coach) & Brad James (High Performance Director Golf Australia) Golf SA s Community Coaches & PGA Coaches who have assisted CEO Golf SA (Chris Luz-Raymond) and Staff I look forward to a prosperous and rewarding in terms of Golf SA High Performance. 16 Golf & Junior Development Report It is with pleasure I present the Golf and Junior Development Report for the 2011/2012 Year. The Golf & Junior Development Committee encompasses a broad and diverse range of responsibilities and activities which will be touched on in this report. During the year Golf Australia unveiled a number of development and membership activities under the headings of Golf Club Connect, the Social Golfer program as well as continuing to support MyGolf and the Community Golf Coaching program. Golf SA builds on these national initiatives to increase participation and golf club membership. Captain s Day A highly successful Captain s Day was run at North Adelaide in March. The aim was to inform Metro club captains on a wide range of industry matters in particular relating to the new USGA Course Rating and Slope Handicapping system. Similar days are being planned at District level for country club captains. Community Golf Coaches We continued to implement the highly successful Community Coaching program with a number of qualified country Community Coaches now participating. Allan Telford has implemented a two day professional development program for the Coaches to ensure they can maintain and upgrade their skill levels. Indigenous Golf A highlight of the year was Golf SA s participation in golf clinics in the APY Lands in remote north-west of SA. The clinics were run in May 2012 as part of the SANFL APY Lands Sports Program through the Office for Recreation & Sport. Golf was the only sports delivered on this trip with the coaching conducted by Jamie Clutterham (Golf SA Assistant State Coach). Golf SA has been able to establish a pathway that links the APY Lands coaching to the Wiltja Program at Woodville High School and on to the annual Aboriginal Golf Championship. Junior Golf SA Almost 12 months ago Golf SA created Junior Golf SA as the platform for all junior golf activities conducted by Golf SA, including events & activities, school activities etc. It is anticipated that all juniors will register through Junior Golf SA thereby creating a database. Junior players who play golf in any Golf SA events create a profile and use junior Golf SA to register on-line. While a number of Clubs and Districts have registered as MYGolf Centres the registration of individual players has been somewhat slower. Junior Activities SAPSASA & SSSSA: Golf SA continues to conduct and support SAPSASA (Primary Schools) and SSSSA (Secondary Schools) golf championships across the State. Both SAPSASA and SSSSA are considered critical pathways in our overall junior program. Allan added the Golf SA Year 8 - Year 9 Championship to ensure that the juniors in these vital years have a pathway from primary to high school golf. Specialist High Schools Programs: Golf SA has long supported the Henley High School Specialist Sports (Golf) Program. This year has seen us assist with setting up two more specialist school golf programs at Reynella East High School and Scotch College with a further at St Martins Lutheran College (Mt Gambier) in the offing. These programs provide increased opportunity for juniors to take up golf and to be provided with excellence in coaching and development opportunities. The Future - Golf Month Golf Month is a concept that has been developed over the last months to market (advertise) playing golf and golf club membership. Golf Month is to become a regular feature in our schedule in November annually. Initially we anticipate using North Adelaide Golf Course as a hub with activities such as clinics being conducted throughout Golf Month. The ultimate aim is to have the support and participation of the whole of the golf industry in Golf Month including clubs, golf retailers and service providers to take the game to the widest audience. Thanks to Staff Firstly I must thank Allan Telford for the dedication he applies to all that comes under his mantel as State Development Coach. 16 Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June 2012

17 APY Lands Junior Golf Clinic As of January 2012 he has been ably assisted by PGA Trainee Craig Weckert. In January 2012 our Golf and Junior Development Manager Phil Lawrie moved back to Queensland, and I thank Phil for his huge input in establishing many Development projects including the very much needed upgrading of our IT platform. The position of Golf & Junior Development Manager is now in the very capable hands of Christian Puccini. Thank you Christian for your assistance in this area, it is always a pleasure working with you. Committee We have worked to recruit a Committee with a wide range of experiences and skills including Ros Brown (Mt Osmond GC), Steve Hayes (McCracken GC), Pam Marston (Manager - SAPSASA), Neil MacKenzie (General Manager The Vines GC), John Cranwell (CEO South Australian Sport and Recreation Association for People with Integration Difficulties -SASRADIP), Chris Crocker (PGA Adelaide City Council) as well as Golf SA Staff Allan Telford, Christian Puccini & Chris Luz-Raymond. I thank them for their continued contribution to this task. Jenny Butcher Chair Golf & Junior Development Committee Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June

28 GOLF SOUTH AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED Page 8 ABN NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2012 Note 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies The financial statements are special purpose financial statements prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the South Australian Associations Incorporation Act 1985 and the Association s constitution. The committee has determined that the Association is not a reporting entity. Basis of Preparation The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act 1985, and the following applicable Australian Accounting Standards: AASB 110: Events after the Reporting Period; and AASB 1031: Materiality. No other Accounting Standards or other authoritative pronouncements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board have been applied. Reporting Basis of Convention The financial report has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historic costs and does not take into account changing money values or, except where specifically stated in the notes, current valuations of non-current assets. The following significant accounting policies which are consistent with the previous period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation and presentation of this financial report. (a) Revenue Recognition Revenue is recognised at the fair value of consideration received or receivable. Amounts disclosed as revenue are net of taxes paid. The following specific recognition criteria must also be met before revenue is recognised: Affiliation Fees Revenue from the annual affiliation fee is recognised upon the delivery of the service to the members. Interest Interest revenue is recognised when it becomes receivable on a proportional basis taking into account the interest rates applicable to the financial assets. Grant and Sponsorship Income Grants and sponsorships are recognised at their fair value where there is reasonable assurance that the amount will be received and the entity will comply with all the attached conditions. Grants and sponsorship relating to costs are deferred and recognised in the statement of comprehensive income over the period necessary to match them with the costs that they are intended to compensate. Tournaments and Other Events Tournament and other event revenue is recognised at the time the event takes place. All revenue is stated net of the amounts of goods and services tax (GST). 28 Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June 2012

29 GOLF SOUTH AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED Page 9 ABN NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2012 Note 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (continued) (b) Income Tax No provision for income tax has been raised, as Golf South Australia Incorporated is exempt from income tax under the Income Tax Assessment Act (c) Impairment of Assets At the end of each reporting period, the Association assesses whether there is any indication that individual assets are impaired. Where impairment indicators exist, recoverable amount is determined and impairment losses are recognised in the statement of comprehensive income where the asset's carrying value exceeds its recoverable amount. Recoverable amount is the higher of an asset's fair value less costs to sell and replacement cost. (d) Cash and Cash Equivalents Cash and cash equivalents includes cash on hand and at bank, and short term deposits with financial institutions with maturities of three months or less, that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash and which are subject to an insignificant risk of changes in value. (e) Trade Receivables Trade receivables are recognised at original invoice amounts less an allowance for uncollectible amounts. Collectability of trade receivables is assessed on an ongoing basis where debts which are known to be uncollectible are written off. An allowance is made for doubtful debts where there is objective evidence that the entity will not be able to collect all amounts due according to the original terms. On confirmation that the trade receivable will not be collectible, the gross carrying value of the asset is written off against the associated provision. (f) Inventory Inventories are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. (g) Investments and Other Financial Assets Recognition and Initial Measurement Financial instruments are initially measured at cost (including transaction costs) on trade date, when the related contractual rights or obligations exist. Subsequent to initial recognition these instruments are measured as set out below: Term Deposits Term deposits are measured at amortised cost using the effective interest rate method. 30 GOLF SOUTH AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED Page 10 ABN NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2012 Note 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (continued) (h) Property, Plant and Equipment Each class of property, plant and equipment is carried at cost or fair value as indicated less, where applicable, any accumulated depreciation and impairment loss. Property Land and buildings are measured at fair value. At revaluation date the asset is restated as the revalued amount. A revaluation surplus is credited to other comprehensive income (the asset revaluation surplus) unless it reverses a revaluation decrease previously recognised in profit or loss. A revaluation deficit is recognised in profit or loss unless it directly offsets a previous revaluation surplus in the asset revaluation surplus. On disposal, any revaluation surplus relating to sold assets is transferred to retained earnings. Plant and Equipment All other plant and equipment is stated at historical cost, including costs directly attributable to bringing the asset to the location and condition necessary for it to be capable of operating in the manner intended by management, less depreciation and any impairments. Depreciation Land is not depreciated. Depreciation on other assets is calculated on a diminishing value basis over the estimated useful life. The depreciation rate used for each class of depreciable assets are: - Buildings at cost or valuation 2.5% Furniture, fixtures, and fittings at cost 10-40% The asset's residual values and useful lives are reviewed and adjusted, if appropriate, at the end of each reporting period. An asset's carrying amount is written down immediately to its recoverable amount if the asset's carrying amount is greater than its estimated recoverable amount. Gains and losses on disposals are calculated as the difference between the net disposal proceeds and the asset's carrying amount and are included in the statement of comprehensive income in the year that the (i) Trade and Other Payables Trade and other payables represent liabilities for goods and services provided to the entity prior to the year end and which are unpaid. These amounts are unsecured and have day payment terms. (j) Employee Benefit Provisions Provision is made for the Association's liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees up to the reporting date. Employee benefits expected to be settled within one year together with benefits arising from wages, salaries and annual leave which may be settled after one year, have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled. Other employee benefits payable later than one year have been measured at the nominal value calculated at reporting date. No provision is made for on costs. 30 Golf SA Annual Report - Year Ended 30 June 2012

31 GOLF SOUTH AUSTRALIA INCORPORATED Page 11 ABN NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2012 Note 1 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (continued) (k) Goods and Services Tax (GST) Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Taxation Office. In these circumstances the GST is recognised as part of the cost of acquisition of the asset or as part of the item of the expense. Receivables and payables are stated with the amount of GST included. The net amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the taxation authority is included as part of receivables or payables in the statement of financial position. Cash flows are included in the statement of cash flows on a gross basis and the GST component of cash flows arising from investing and financing activities, which is recoverable from, or payable to, the taxation authority are classified as operating cash flows.
