PREVIOUS MINUTES 1.1 The minutes of the Executive meeting, held at Carolina Golf Club on 19 May, 2018 which had been circulated, was confirmed by the Executive and signed as a true record by the Chairman. Proposed by Johann van Rensburg and seconded by Johann Bezuidenhout. 2. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES : Nil 3. TOURNAMENTS AND MATCHES CONCLUDED : 3.1 The Highveld Matchplay was played at Kriel on 26/27 May on a course in immaculate condition. The greens are very good. The top 16 players of Highveld on the stroke averages qualified to play and each played 12 singles matches over the 2 days. Ivan Mare and Alex Pieterse tied with 11 wins each and in the ensuing shootout Mare was the closest to the pin and was declared the winner. In 3rd spot was Brian Naidoo on 18 points followed by Andre van Heerden and Mitch Kock both on 17 points. 3.2 The Mpumalanga Foursomes was played at Witbank on 17 June in good weather and on a course in good nick. Sixty four players took part and there were 8 no shows.winners at the end of the day were Xander Basson/Stian van Aswegen on a score of 147 followed by Ivan Mare/Andre van Heerden on 148 in 3rd place was Carel Krog/Reinhardt Hartzenberg on The Lowveld Mid Am combined with the Lowveld Open to be played at a pristine Mbombela course on 7/8 July with 71 players in the field Highveld Mid Am winner long hitting Ernest Botha was the winner here as well on a score of 141 from local boy Jacques du Preez in second spot on 142. Derek Scullard and Xander Basson were joint 3rd on 143 and Shaun Stapleton was 5th on 144.

2 4. FORTHCOMING FIXTURES : The Platinum Petroleum Supplies Mpumalanga Open has been moved from Highland Gate to Witbank Golf Club on 26/28 October. Entry forms will be available shortly and accommodation venues will be listed. Accommodation poster has been received from local Hotel group. 4.2 The annual playoff between the winners of the Highveld and Lowveld handicap leagues will be contested on 28 July, 2018 by Bethal and White River at Middelburg Country Club teeing off at 10h04. League playoff rules were approved. 4.3 Middelburg will represent Mpumalanga at the Northern Province s League Final at Koro Creek on 28/29 July good wishes were extended to them for a successful tournament. 4.4 The final selection for the IPT and Mid Am teams are IPT : Carel Jacobsz, JP du Toit, Alex Pieterse, Donavan de Vries, Andre van Heerden, Ivan Mare, Ru Juan Lessingh, Stephen Morrison; Manager Rob Pryde. Mid Am : Eddie Daniel, Gary Daniel, Ryk Lacock, Carel Jacobsz, Stephan Potgieter, Eddie Wilken, Rikus Nel, Niel Clifford. Manager Johann van Rensburg. 4.5 The above two teams and Jan Jacobs will play the two Limpopo Teams at Groblersdal on 11/12 August, but should Limpopo not field a full strength two teams a decision will have to be taken. 4.6 The MGU Seniors Open is scheduled for Middelburg on 18/19 August entry forms have been sent out. 4.7 The Closed Championship will be sponsored by Adiomart the sponsor has requested Nelspruit to be the venue. The committee approved. 5. SAGA MATTERS : Graeme Morrison reported a. At the Manco meeting in Cape Town it was confirmed that Disabled Golf would fall under each Union. b. Points earned by golfers in tournaments world wide to be on the same level. c. President Geoff Tayler has recovered health wise. d. GOLFRSA was founded to assist SAGA both financially and golf wise. 6. CORRESPONDENCE : All correspondence, in and out, was tabled. They were made available to the Members of the Executive to peruse at their leisure after the meeting. 7. SPONSORSHIP : Confirmation from the sponsor of the MGU Open has been received. Confirmation from the sponsor of the MGU Closed has been received. 8. FINANCE : 8.1 The Union made a surplus of R this past year but this is entirely due to the capitalising of the motor vehicle which now becomes an asset. If one looks at what the Budget income is and what your Budget expenditure is then one gets a clearer picture in that the surplus is whittled down to R The Union also paid a deposit of R70000 on the vehicle to absa. The provisional Budget for 2018/2019 was approved. 8.2 The Union takes note of the comment on affiliation fees by the General Manager of Mbombela Golf Club that the SAGA fees were too high. In fact they SAGA- promised that the affiliation fees could

3 be reduced annually as Handicaps Network Africa grew in stature The MGU did not have any option but to increase the fees as our Juniors/Seniors/Disabled Golf and Womens Golf needed financial assistance and general guidance annually. The threshold for payment of Tax must also be looked at. 9. REPORTS : 9.1 HIGHVELD : Rob Pryde Ivan Mare won the Bankenveld Open on 154 from Alex Pieterse on 156 in a field of 41 the Highveld Matchplay was a successful tournament enjoyed by the players and will again be hosted at Kriel in 2019 The foursomes at Witbank has the potential to grow into a bigger and better tournament at the Highveld AGM I was re-elected President with Johann van Rensburg the vicepresident and Robbie Haward the delegate to MGU The AGM was very well attended. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge Regional Final has been switched from Ermelo to Witbank as the greens at Ermelo have suffered from lack of water the handicap League final was played at Walker Park in early July, in the Spring Chickens League Bethal beat Bankenveld 5 3 and in the Ou Toppies league Standerton beat Middelburg 4 2, Bethal now play White River in the playoff. The Mid Amateur league is well under way Middelburg were wished well in their quest to win the Northern Province s Scratch League The Highveld Scratch league gets underway in late September. Congrats to Stephan Potgieter on his election as Lowveld President and Adriaan Rabe the vice president. 9.2 LOWVELD : Coenie du Preez At the Lowveld AGM on 14 July 2018 Stephan Potgieter was elected President with Adriaan Rabe The Vice President. Johann Bezuidenhout and Coenie du Preez were elected Executive Members with Sakkie de Lange re elected Treasurer, Keith Viviers is the new Secretary. Player of the Year was Ryk Lacock with Drikus Joubert the Junior of the Year. The league report was accepted with no objections. The meeting was well attended with 11 of the Lowveld clubs attending. Clubs in the Lowveld were in general struggling financially but currently this was the norm in Mpumalanga. A new challenge match was put forward in that a Highveld Executive play a Lowveld Executive team at Kriel for a Challenge Trophy. It was requested that the MGU meetings start at 08h30 in future things were quiet in the Lowveld at this time. 9.3 DEVELOPMENT : Edwin Compton The SAGDB is currently running programs in Ermelo, Secunda, Witbank/Middelburg, Pilgrims Rest, Malelane, Komatipoort with a new program to start shortly in Mbombela. The SAGDB currently coach close to 250 Junior golfers every week with 11 handicapped playing Mpumalanga Junior tournaments on a regular basis and 6 players representing the MGU junior teams in the Quad tournaments. Players to watch include Iwann Le Roux and Thabo Dube, both13 years old and 14 year old Dino Thobela. Great success was achieved with Lucia Mlabane coming 3rd in the B division of the Nomads S.A Girls Championships in Orkney she is only 13 years old. Edwin Compton has been invited by the PGA of S.A. to do a presentation on one of the programs in Mpumalanga at this years PGA National Coaching Conference. I would like to thank our coaches Jastice Mashego, Eddie Daniel, Henco Erasmus, Samuel Lukhele, Magda Stronkhorst and Izak Mahlangu for their hard work and dedication in furthering golf in our Province. Thank you also to President Graeme Morrison and the MGU Exec Committee for their support. 9.4 MPUMALANGA JUNIOR and SCHOOLS GOLF: The U.17 S.A Strokeplay Championships, played at Middelburg, was a great success and thanks

4 4 must go to the Junior Golf division and the Country Club. A letter has been received by Junior Golf demanding the entire committee to stand down in a motion of no confidence the Chairman instructed Junior Golf President to meet up with the concerned persons and sort out the allegations directed at the Junior Golf Committee asap. The internal bickering in Junior Golf was not good for the game. 9.5 SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF : The Senior MGU Open is scheduled for Middelburg on 18/19 August entry forms have been circulated. The Code of Conduct and Selection Criteria have been posted on the website. The Seniors have requested that a duty roster be drawn up before every MGU tournament and circulated to all concerned who will be required for duty at the tournament. The President of Senior Golf and committee have opted not to have live scoring at their Open Championship at Middelburg on 18/19 August. A sponsor has been found for the Open and the Rinus van Niekerk System will be used for scoring. 9.6 WOMENS GOLF : No Report 9.7 DISCIPLINARY REPORT : Nothing to report 10. GENERAL : 10.1 All matters pertaining to the MGU Open at Witbank will be finalized at the next executive meeting meeting at Carolina in September viz a. scoring system/scorer to be used b. live scoring - c. Rules Officials - d. setting up of course - f. draw and scorecards to be printed g. financial arrangements - h. catering - i. accommodation for officials - j. number of officials required Is the Executive anywhere closer to finalizing a Ranking System to be finalized in September The Fixture List for 2019 need being drawn up the Club Open Day dates need to be confirmed and if clubs do not respond a date will be set for them clubs to respond within 2 weeks 10.4 Set up a committee for the IPT at Nelspruit in 2019 The President to chair all meetings with the Secretary in charge of all background work.
