1 BLESSING MABUSELA TALENT AMERICA What a fantastic way to start the new term. Our Principal Mrs Wandrag congratulated Blessing Mabusela on winning 1st place at Talent America (in New York City). The best international act of Blessing scored the highest points in the dance section in the age group Blessing is also the winner of the modelling division for formal wear! Well done Blessing! From Mrs Wandrag s table: I just want to add that Blessing epitomizes everything that Lowveld High School stands for. Things have not come easily to him. He has taken advantage of every opportunity that has come his way and worked extremely hard in spite of the obstacles and difficulties he has experienced. His mentor Ms Megan Goodwin an educator at the school has supported and assisted Blessing in ways far beyond that which we expect from an educator. 4 STUDENT ACHEIVEMENTS M P U M A L A N G A CHAMP CH E SS 7 learners participated in the first round of the tournament at Penryn College on 5 May The following six learners made it through to the second round (Mbombela Sub-district finals) and participated in the tournament at TUT Mbombela on 19 May 2018: Tshepo Ngozwana, Hlulani Mfomande, Kalmia Mashego, Kgomotso Mashego, Kimberly Khoza and Faith Shongwe. Kgomotso Mashego (16) progressed to the third round, held in Valencia on 26th May, and then went on to play in the Provincial Championship in Ermelo on 9th June. She won all five games at the Provincial tournament and is the Mpumalanga Schools Chess U18 Girls champion. Congratulations Kgomotso! PROVINCIAL RUGBY Qhama Sinkila and Mr Gerard du Toit, player and coach of the Mpumalanga Platteland Rugby team playing in Paarl in the Western Cape. Looking great and representing Lowveld High with pride. Banele Muwayi represented Mpumalanaga u16b. u/ 21 NETBALL Sanele Siwela (16) was chosen to play in the Spar National Woman's Netball Tournament u/21 in P. E. Well done! GIRLS PUMA RUGBY Congratulations to our four Learners who qualified for the Girls Puma Rugby Team: Banele Silinda u/18, Faith Ngobeni u/18, Laheri Nkosi u/18, Ntombikayise Nkosi U/16. Thank you to their Coach Naishi Makhafola. Well done! PROVINCIAL HOCKEY The following learners were selected to represent the Province Londi Nonyane was selected girls u/16b, Darren Arends the boys u/14, Teddy Makoto boys u/14, and Sihle Mahlalela the u/ 18. Well done to all Coaches and players! PROVINCIAL PRESIDENT - GEMBEM Four of our learners attended the Provincial GEMBEM camp last week. Thandolwethu Khoza (G10), Hilton Shabangu (Gr12), Sbonelesihle Nkabinde (Gr10) and Nandipha Ndlovu (Gr11). A new Provincial Executive Committee was elected. Well done to Sbonelesihle Nkabinde who is the new Provincial President and Thandolwethu Khoza the new secretary. 4

6 SEVEN-A-SIDE RUGBY Lowveld High will host it s annual tournament on 18 August We expect 16 schools (32 teams) from across Mpumalanga and Gauteng to participate.
