1 PRESIDENT Gideon Sam Gideon Sam was born on the 19 August 1949, Cape Town, South Africa. Gideon s Education Background: Bachelor of Arts History and Languages and Bachelor of Education, University of Fort Hare; Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management, University of Johannesburg. Gideon s involvement of sports stretches over more than three decades. He was an athlete at school and college level and played rugby at school, college, university, club and district levels. Gideon s administration of sport includes; President/General Secretary/Committee member at club/provincial and national level; Victoria East Rugby Union; Victoria East Council of Sport; Amateur Swimming Association of Border; Golden Lions Rugby Union; South African Rugby Union; National Sports Council; South African Sports Commission; Swimming South Africa; National Lotteries Distribution Fund; Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and IOC Commission member of Sport and Environment. FIRST VICE PRESIDENT Hajera Kajee Kajee is passionate about the development and transformation of sport in South Africa. She was elected as Treasurer of the South African Table Tennis Board in 1988 and subsequently as Secretary General of the same board in She was also appointed by then Sports Minister, Mr Steve Tshwete to serve on a sub- committee on sports policy formulation and a member to the National Sports Council of Women s Committee. In 1996 she was elected second Vice President
2 of the National Olympic Committee (NOCSA), the first woman to be elected on the NOCSA executive and in 1997 she was appointed as member of Women and Sport South Africa (WASSA). In 2001 she was elected to the South African Sports Commission as a Commissioner. In 2012 Kanjee was elected Vice President Public Relations in the Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) and was also elected in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in 2013 Women in sport Commissioner. SECOND VICE PRESIDENT Les Williams Has vast experience in sport, having served in various positions since He was elected Member of the Executive of the Northern Transvaal Korfball Union and South African Korfball Association in 1978 and 1988 respectively. In 1994 he was elected Secretary General of South African International Korfball Association and subsequently President of the South African Korfball Federation. He also held a position in the Gauteng North Sports Council, was Vice President for Africa North and South America of International Korfball Federation, Chair of Gauteng North Sports Council and of Commonwealth Korfball Association. In 2006 Williams was elected Board Member of SASCOC and was Chef de Mission of Team South Africa to the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. IOC MEMBER Dr Sam Ramsamy
3 Dr Sam Ramsamy was born on the 27 th January 1938 in Durban, South Africa. His educational background; Springfield College of Education, Durban; University of South Africa; Carnegie College of Physical Education, Leeds (Great Britain); LLD (HC) University of Toronto (Canada); Honorary Doctrates University of Surrey and Leeds Metropolitan University (Great Britain); Honorary Fellow Roehampton College, University of Surrey. During his career, Dr Ramsamy participated in various sports; swimming, athletics, football and surf lifeguarding. Sam was the chairman of the South African Non- Racial Olympic Committee (SANROC, ); Chairman of the South African Commonwealth Games Association ( ); President of Swimming South Africa ( ); Honorary Life President of Swimming South Africa (2004- ); President of the NOC ( ); General Manager and Chef de Mission to the Games of the XXV Olympiad in Barcelona in 1992 and the XVII Olympic Winter Games in Lillenhammer in 1994; Vice President of FINA; Member of the IOC Executive Board (2006- ) to date. Mark Alexander Has extensive experience in South African Olympic sport and has served in various positions since Alexander is also Deputy President of the South African Rugby Union, Managing Director at Advocate Solution (Pty) Ltd and an Executive Director at Simeka Business Solutions Group. Mubarak Mohamed
4 Received the Premier s award for best sporting administrator in KwaZulu- Natal in 2006/2007. Has served the South African Football Association at National Executive level for 14 and as Vice President for four years. Mohamed is the Director of SA Soccer Pty Ltd and the Director of the FIFA World Cup 2010 and was also the Chairman of the World Cup 2010 Budget Committee. Jace Naidoo Is currently president of Swimming South Africa. He has served on a number of positions of the National Executive of SSA since Was first elected to the SASCOC Board in 2007 and was re- elected in Kobus Marais Serves as Deputy President for the South African Sport Association for the Physically Disabled(SASAPD), was DISSA President between 2005 and 2007, served as SASCOC Board Member since 2006, and accompanied the Team SA Paralympic team to both the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2012 London Games. He is also the Democratic Alliance Shadow Minister for Public Service and Administration in the National Assembly.
5 Jerry Segwaba Is a key player in the Free State and will now be looking to broaden his horizons outside the province. Segwaba is currently the president of the Free State Sports Confederation. During his days at secondary school he was elected as the Executive Member of the Welkom branch of the Congress of the South African Students (COSAS) and Provincial Committees sport portfolio responsible for organising students to join the progressive sports movement. Two years later he was elected as the first provincial chairperson of the Free State Youth Council where all youth political format formations converge to discuss issues affecting young people in the province. Successively, Segwaba was elected as National Sport Council (NSC) Northern Free State regional chairperson and consequently provincial chair of the NSC in the Free State province. Motlatsi Keikabile Is a community sports activist and in a bid to give back and contribute to the growth of sport in communities. Keikabile has dedicated the last 30 years to promoting sport in schools and communities. She has given her life to the promotion of sport in South Africa and is heavily involved in athletics administration, as a technical manager for Athletics South Africa, and as President of Athletics North West Province. She grew up knowing no other way of passing time except by participating in all sorts of sporting activities. While at college she wanted to be a sports coach, but was told it was a man s job. This made her determined to prove everybody wrong.
6 Emile Smith Was a professional hockey player and a staff member at TuksSport (Pty) Ltd. He has vast experience in the sports fraternity, having worked for various companies and having been active in sport for the past 15 years. Emile has performed various project management roles including leading the HPC team on Team South Africa's Olympic Pre- departure camp 2012 and being elected to the South African Hockey Association Executive Board responsible for the portfolio of High Performance and a past executive member at the hpc until He has also attained many accomplishments including participating in Commonwealth Games , Hockey World Cup in Malaysia, Azlahan Shar Cup, BDO Champions Challenge, Olympic Qualifier in Spain, All Africa Games , Olympic Games Athens 2004 where he was Vice Captain, African Qualifier in Kenya and Olympic Games Beijing Temba Hlasho Is the Judo South Africa President and has over 38 years experience in the Judo Sport having started it from the young age 12. He has been involved in training in various clubs. He excelled in his competition years and obtained provincial and national colours under the auspices of Eastern Province Judo Association and Judo Association of South Africa (JASA) respectively, before the merger in 1983.
7 Hlasho was a founder member of Eastern Province Judo Association and member on the negotiation team when SAJU (South African Judo Union), former white judo federation, and JASA, former black judo federation merged to form the now JSA, Judo South Africa. When an interim committee was formed, he served as a Development Officer for two years until elections in 1985 and remained a development officer in the democratically elected JSA committee. He has also served as an executive member of EP Judo since its inception in 1985 and later its chairman, from 2000 until Merrill King King has extensive experience in the canoeing field. She is the manager for canoeing and is a holder of numerous river marathon titles in the veteran and master classes. King also ran two Comrades Marathons and several Two Oceans ultra- marathons. Further, she was part of Team South Africa at the London Olympic Games and rates being asked to manage the canoeing team at the Games as her greatest achievement on the sporting front. King also broke new ground in the administrative field by being the first woman to hold the position of president of Canoeing South Africa [ ].
