1 17 October 2018 Message From The Principal Mrs M Taylor SCHOOL TIMES Once again, I appeal to parents to ensure that your children arrive at school on time. I understand that we live in an area where traffic congestion is a real problem but we are all aware of this and need to plan accordingly. We can have up to 50 children late a day and this causes 50 classes to be disrupted which impacts on teaching and learning. As parents, we need to inculcate a positive work ethic and this is a first step. Please co-operate with us on this so we can start each day on a positive note. LEARNER RESPONSIBILITY Please help your child to become responsible for themselves and their belongings. Pack suitcases the night before school to ensure that all necessary items are ready for school in the morning. If your child leaves something at home, let him/her learn that there are consequences to their actions. For most children this will be a once off and it is a life lesson no damage is done. For those who frequently leave articles at home, not making them face the consequences, is reinforcing the irresponsible behaviour and not helping your child in the long run. The front office has once again been instructed not to accept items which have been left at home to deliver to the learner. SCHOOL EXHIBITION This is a new event on our school calendar and we are quite excited about it. We will be exhibiting items from every learner to showcase the outstanding work which is done in the school.

2 Parents are invited to view the work in the Hall on Thursday, 25 October and Friday, 26 October from 14:00 18:00 each day. REMINDER Due to staff training all extra murals are cancelled for Thursday, 18 October. As the entire staff will be involved in the training, it is essential that all children are collected immediately after school. For the safety of our children, please ensure that this happens. HEAD OF SCHOOL FOR KES 2019 Crispin McKenzie is an ex Bryandalian (class of 2014) and he was recently appointed as head of school for KES His younger brother Ewan is currently in Grade 6 at Bryandale. DATES TO REMEMBER 18 OCTOBER - PARENT APPRECIATION EVENING BY INVITATION OCTOBER - SCHOOL EXHIBITION 27 OCTOBER - GRADE ORIENTATION 2 NOVEMBER - GRADE 1 CAKE AND CANDY THEME SENSATIONAL SUMMER FROM THE BPA LOST PROPERTY Dear Parents, The Lost Property process will continue in the same manner as per Term 3 in that you or your child may check the various Lost Property bins located around the school. Every Wednesday, items from these bins are cleared, cleaned and sorted by volunteer parents and then placed in the Lost Property storage area in the Thrift Shop which is open every Thursday morning 07:00-07:25 for claiming. We do not have lists of lost items, nor do we return items to the classes, so please come and have a look if you are missing anything. There are already many items awaiting collection. Thank you. BPA Lost Property Team

3 From the Extra Mural Desk Our first week back at school was very eventful on the sports fields. Thank you to all the coaches and parents who had to hit the ground running as we started the term, your support is appreciated. Should your child be ill or unable to play or swim in a match/gala, please me on nikki.davies@bryandale.co.za timeously so that a replacement can be arranged. The children are not permitted to find their own replacement of they are unable to play, it must be done through the sports desk or directly with their coach. Please ensure that your child attends practices for their sports as they will not be permitted to play in a match or swim in a gala if they have not attended practices in a particular week. Junior Tennis Championships The Junior Tennis Championships will take place on Friday afternoon. Should your child wish to play, they will need to write their name onto the list on the noticeboard outside the media centre, alternatively send me an . If your child is swimming in the gala or is unable to be there on Friday, please let me know and Mrs Corbett and I will arrange a match time for them. Sports and Cultural Photos The Sports Photos have been received and will be put up in the foyer of the hall today. Order forms will be sent home with your child tomorrow. Should you wish to order a photo, please mark it on the order form and send it back to school with the money. Deadline for orders will be next Friday. Matches and practices on 18 October There will be no extra murals tomorrow afternoon due to staff training. Please note that the tennis and cricket matches have also been rescheduled. The U9 cricket games against Rivonia have been moved to 6 November and the tennis matches have been moved to 30 October. These changes have been added to the updated fixture list on the communicator. Montrose Night Series Cricket Our U11A cricket team played in the Montrose night series on Friday 12 October. After a very exciting game, we lost to Dainfern by a single run. Our boys played like champions and we are looking forward to watching them again at their next match, to be played on Friday 2 November. A huge thank you to Mrs Jolene Fletcher and Mr Piers Proctor for having team shirts made for the boys and Coach AB. They looked very smart and we truly appreciate the sponsorship.

4 C Team Cricket Matches Please note that there have been cricket matches arranged for the U11C and U13C teams this term. These teams will be rotated to ensure that everyone plays at least 2 matches. Please check the communicator the day before the match to see whether your child is playing and ensure that they bring their kit to school on the day of the match. Cricket matches are to be played in whites. The required uniform is a white collared golf shirt, white shorts, long white socks and the navy Bryandale cap. Should your child be incorrectly dressed, they will not be allowed to play.
