1 STANDLEADER CONSTITUTION KLEIN COLLINS HIGH SCHOOL Klein Independent School District We, as students of Klein Collins High School, in the Klein Independent School District, in order to create an organization to promote pride and participation within the halls of our school and in our Collins community functions; to work for better relations between this school and others; and to raise the standards and ideals of students themselves; do ordain and establish this constitution for the Standleaders (Collins Crew) of Klein Collins High School. The Standleaders hereby support this constitution to promote activities for the betterment of Klein Collins High School, our Collins Community and our Country. The director of the organization, with approval from the school administration, has the authority to interpret and enforce the constitution. ARTICLE I ~~ NAME OF ORGANIZATION SECTION A: The name of this organization shall be the Standleaders (Collins Crew) of Klein Collins High School. SECTION B: The colors of this organization shall be Navy, Vegas Gold and Red. ARTICLE II ~~ GENERAL PURPOSE SECTION A: To increase and develop character, leadership, scholarship, self-worth, responsibility; community involvement all while exemplifying high moral character. SECTION B: To maintain school unity and spiriting by fostering pride in Klein Collins High School. SECTION C: To encourage participate and service by the students of Klein Collins High School within the school and community activities. SECTION D: To promote school spirit and good sportsmanship. SECTION E: To promote community spirit. SECTION F: To represent the Klein Independent School District and Klein Collins High School at major athletic events, school functions, competitions and community activities (on and off campus). SECTION G: To create and maintain satisfactory relations between our Standleaders and other persons we should come in contact with. SECTION H: To encourage and support interest in all areas interrelated to education, including and not limited to academic clubs, athletic and fine arts as well as other outstanding organizations within the halls of Klein Collins High School. ARTICLE III ~~ POWERS VESTED IN THE ORGANIZATION SECTION I: This organization recognizes that it must have the support and approval of the administration of Klein Collins High School. SECTION II: The principal of Klein Collins High School, who is responsible for the total school

2 program, will be kept informed of all Standleader operations. SECTION III: ALL operations of the Standleaders will be approved by the faculty sponsors appointed by the principal. ARTICLE IV ~~ TRYOUTS / REQUIREMENTS / ELECTION PROCEDURES SECTION A: A date shall be set by the sponsors of the organization in coordination with the school calendar. SECTION B: At the time of tryouts, a Standleader candidate must currently be a resident of the attendance zone for Klein Collins High School or have an approved transfer notice from the office of school administration to attend KCHS the next year. SECTION C: Any student who plans to tryout for Standleader MUST BE in the 11 th grade at the time of tryouts. SECTION D: All prospective members must attend and participate in tryouts. The sponsors and/or administration will handle on an individual basis circumstances preventing a prospective member from participating. SECTION E: Prospective members and their parents must be fully aware of the expenses of Standleaders as explained in the tryout general information packet. They must be willing to meet all financial obligations. IF a student is not able to meet all financial obligations, the student needs to consult the director. SECTION F: A standleader s term begins on the day the official roster is posted and continues until that membership is officially terminated. SECTION G: ALL prospective candidates must fill out and return the KCHS Standleader Tryout Packet by the start of tryouts day #1. SECTION H: EACH prospective candidate will be divided into teams to show their potential as a Standleader. These teams will be given a task to perform at tryouts on a designated day. SECTION I: ALL prospective candidates will go through an interview process to access the knowledge of being a Standleader. SECTION J: Each prospective candidate will be judged by a panel of judges. ARTICLE V ~~ MEMBERSHIP EACH member of the KCHS Standleaders is expected to abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the constitution and by the appointed faculty sponsor. SECTION A: ATTENDANCE 1. You will be required to attend ALL Standleader functions (i.e. meetings, pre-game tailgating dinners, sporting events, and other activities) during your tenure as a Standleader. 2. You will be required to be available beginning the first week in August for a Work Day for football season and prepare a skit for freshman orientation. Dates to be announced by the appointed faculty sponsor at a later time. 3. You will be required to participate in all Standleader fundraisers during the year. 4. You will be required to be flexible in your work/family schedule so that you can be available at a moments notice for participation. This means you will not be able to work

3 or be otherwise occupied on Tuesday afternoons as well as Friday nights throughout the school year, as well as Thursdays and Saturdays when applicable. 5. Standleaders shall attend the following events: ALL HOME GAMES HALF of HOME GAMES MERIT GAMES Football Volleyball Swimming Boys Basketball Soccer Wrestling Girls Basketball Baseball Softball 6. Stand leaders will also participate in other sports and activities as deemed by the sponsors. Such as any playoffs games that teams advance to. a. ALL excused absences for games or activities must be verified by a written excuse or . Sponsors should be notified 1WEEK before the missed activity.the only excused absences are personal illness or accident, death in family, or a school sponsored event. b. Each Standleader will be allowed ONE free absence from a game or meeting per semester. Any absence beyond this may result in dismissal. Please send a note regarding which game you want as your free absence so it can be kept on file. c. Each missed event after earns a demerit. d. 3 demerits = Dismissal SECTION B: REQUIRED INFORMATION 1. Standleaders must be familiar with ALL of the KCHS Standleader guidelines, 2. Standleaders must know the words to BOTH the school alma mater and the school fight song. SECTION C: TRANSPORTATION 1. Standleaders may be required to ride to and from away games on a bus, unless the game is at Klein Memorial Stadium. 2. IF a team bus is not available to transport the entire group EACH one of the Standleaders are required to find transportation to and from the game. 3. EACH parent is required to sign the Transportation Wavier for their prospective Standleader. This must be kept on file with the appointed faculty sponsors for the entire time of their membership. SECTION D: GRADES 1. All grade averages will be checked and recorded immediately after the close of each sixweek period. 2. Any Standleader who receives below an overall 70 average in any six weeks reporting period will be put on probation until the next grading period. 3. Any member who makes an F in a six-week period is ineligible from a Standleader performance/activities for the period of time defined by the No Pass/No Play guidelines from the state. 4. An academic waiver for failure in an exempted course as defined by state law may be granted by the administration. 5. If the grade is not above a 70 the next grading term the student will be removed from the organization. SECTION E: DRESS CODE 1. Uniforms will be worn to school on Varsity games days and any other days deemed by the appointed faculty sponsors. 2. Uniforms will NOT be worn at any other time.

4 3. When in uniform, the appointed faculty sponsors will establish appearance guidelines and behavior guidelines. Standleaders must remember that they are representing Klein Collins High School every time they are in uniform. SECTION F: GAME CODE OF CONDUCT 1. Standleaders will remain in a designated area at all games 2. Standleaders will participate with the cheerleaders, band and drill team members during cheers. 3. Standleaders should be standing as a group at all events. 4. Standleaders will promote good sportsmanship at all events in which they are required to participate in. SECTION G: DISCIPLINE / REMOVAL 1. ALL Standleaders will following the KISD student handbook. 2. Standleaders will be given Demerits/Merits based on their performance throughout the year. 3. You will be given a total of 3 demerits before being removed as a Standleader. 4. The school Principal, administrative advisor, or appointed faculty sponsor may remove a Standleader from his/her position at any time that the student presents less than exemplary behavior. SECTION H: COSTS 1. Standleaders will be responsible for the purchase of all uniforms. The money and uniform deadline will be determined by the appointed faculty sponsor at a later date. 2. The uniform will consist of: a. (1) monogrammed collared shirt ($25) b. (1) or (2) t-shirts ($15 each) c. (1) Blue Coveralls with monogram ($70) d. (1) school-appropriate pair of blue jeans e. (1) khaki shorts f. (1) pair of red socks g. (1) pair of red tennis shoes 3. Other requirements: a. Football Program page ($5) b. Yearbook Page ($5) c. A one time $25.00 membership fee to help defray the cost of the Standleader organization A FINAL NOTE To be chosen as a Stand leader is a highly sought after privilege. You are expected to be a role model whose behavior is EXEMPLARY. All UIL guidelines will be followed as well as ALL Handbook rules and regulations. Refusing to participate in any Standleader activity will result in immediate dismissal from the organization.

5 Student & Parent Agreement Statement I have read the Constitution. I agree to all terms and conditions. I understand the level of commitment that is expected of a Klein Collins Standleader. I understand that EXEMPLARY behavior will be required. I realize that this commitment means I will be available for participation every Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday nights, Friday nights, and Thursday/Saturday nights when applicable throughout the school year, even at a moment s notice.
