CONTACT Please contact us on: Ph: Breakers Netball Club Established 1995 PO Box 1735 Runaway Bay Qld 4216 Breakers Netball Club 2017 Information Booklet 16
The purpose of this booklet is to provide you with some handy information that will assist you as a player and/or parent during the 2017 season. Our club website is where you can find further information on our club. Breakers Netball Club has a strong reputation as one that values good sportsmanship and develops friendships within sport. We encourage all our players to enjoy their netball by promoting self- confidence, personal achievement and most of all having fun. Netball is currently the largest female participation sport in Queensland and Breakers is passionate about maintaining our players enthusiasm for the game. If at any time, you have any suggestions, questions or feedback, please feel free to contact any one of the committee members. We hope you enjoy your 2017 netball season with Breakers. Happy Netballing, Breakers Committee 2017 Parent/Spectator Code of Conduct: 1. Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours. 2. Encourage children to participate, do not force them. 3. Focus on the child s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing. 4. Encourage children to always participate according to the rules and the officials decisions. 5. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game. Positive comments are motivational. 6. Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the game s outcome. 7. Support efforts to remove verbal & physical abuse from sporting activities. 8. Show appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate. 9. Under no circumstances should any parent or spectator make audible comments about or directly to the umpire on their decisions. This could result in a penalty to the team or your banishment from the courts by the Northern Gold Coast Netball Association ( NGCNA ). Club Philosophy The philosophy of Breakers Netball Club is to encourage netball players at any level game to reach their full potential, to enjoy friendships with team mates, and also enjoy the competition of the game. Breakers Netball Club is committed to developing players at all levels of skill and experience and welcomes all new players into the club. Ultimately, we play to win but we also pride ourselves on the fact that we are a respected club and play the game fairly and competitively. 10. Condemn the use of foul language, harassment or violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players towards players, coaches or officials. 11. Show respect for your team s opponents. Without them there would be no game. 12. NGCNA require you to stand well clear of the court and umpire areas and that there be no umbrellas or chairs between courts. Never walk between courts (across the baseline) whilst a ball is in play. 13. Please see our Club President or a Committee member with any complaints or compliments, which will be passed on to the Committee/NGCNA. 14. If you disagree with an umpire or coach raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question their judgment and honesty in public
Junior Player Code of Conduct: 1. Play by and know the rules of the game. 2. Be committed to your team. Attend and be on time for all training sessions, matches and carnivals as nominated by our club. Contact your coach or manager should you be unable to attend a training session or a game. 3. Always wear the correct FULL Breakers uniform (with hair pulled back, nails cut short and absolutely NO jewellery of any sort). 4. Co-operate with match officials, your coach, team mates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition. Always thank the umpires and scorers after the game. 5. NEVER argue with an official. If you disagree during a game, have your captain, coach or manager approach the umpire during a break or after the game to clarify the rule/decision. Umpires should always be approached in a courteous and polite way. 6. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberate fouling or provoking of an opponent is NOT acceptable or permitted. 7. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another person. 8. Be a good sport. Acknowledge all good plays whether by your team or your opponent. 9. Ensure that at all times your behaviour is appropriate. 10. Be a patient and enthusiastic supporter of fellow players. 11. Play for the fun of it, not just to please parents or coaches. Contact Information Committee Club Mobile number: breakersnetball@gmail.com Facebook: Breakers Netball Club Website: President Vice President Treasurer Secretary Equipment/Uniform Officer Fundraising/Duty Day Registrar General member Melanie Goldsbrough Laura Docherty Sarah Clarke Sarah Clarke Laura Docherty Michelle Chu Sue Brook Andrea Kidd Leisa Batcheldor Jacki Knight Shane Rhodes Lisa Foy *The committee information is subject to change please check the website regularly for updates and phone contact details. Breakers Netball Club is entirely run by the parents of our players, who voluntarily provide their time and effort to either coach, umpire, manage a team or are members of the committee to ensure that the club runs smoothly during the netball season. If you would like to become a more active participant of Breakers Netball Club, please contact one of the Executive Committee Members (as listed above) for more information. The committee is open to all suggestions and welcomes your valued opinions
Games Venue: Netball Courts, Sports Drive, Runaway Bay Times: Juniors play on Saturdays starting from 8 am. Seniors play on Monday and Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons. A season calendar has been included for easy reference to junior game days and game free weekends. Fundraising The Club is always looking for new and exciting ways to raise much needed funds. If you have any ideas that you think would be appropriate please us at breakersnetball@gmail.com. The Committee appreciates your support in helping the Club raise as much money as possible during the season. Good Sportsmanship As well as teaching the game of netball, Breakers Netball Club aims to encourage our players to display team spirit, good sportsmanship and courteous behaviour. Parents and spectators are asked to be good examples and are reminded not to criticise the umpire or engage in unsportsmanlike behaviour. Positive comments are always more constructive and beneficial than negative comments. Inappropriate comments from the sideline may cause your team to be penalised. We ask that play from both teams on the court is applauded and appreciated. Allocation of team positions to team members is the sole responsibility of the team coach. Suggestions/Feedback or Complaints The Executive Committee takes on board all feedback and suggestions and regards complaints very seriously. All correspondence, positive or negative, should be directed to the Club Secretary on breakersnetball@gmail.com or forwarded via mail to PO Box 276, Runaway Bay QLD 4216 Attention: Netball Club. All correspondence received is responded to, and where a complaint is received, an investigation is undertaken with a formal response being returned
Wet Weather 2017 Season Playing Calendar From time to time cancellation of games due to wet weather occurs. NGCNA notifies each Club via the Club President when the decision to cancel a game is made. TBC Washed out competitive games will be rescheduled to another time whilst Nova games are generally not rescheduled as there are no points involved. A message will be forwarded to all players via team managers. Therefore please go to netball unless you hear otherwise. Check with your coach or team manager if unsure. Club Duty Day Every Club has an allocated duty day during the season. This involves setting up all courts with post pads, bringing in post pads after the last game played, putting rubbish bins out and generally cleaning up. Each club also has the opportunity on their designated day to conduct fundraising. Your help on this day is appreciated to make these jobs easier for all involved
Breakers Teams Nova Division Non-competitive teams are called Nova and play under modified Netball Australia rules in the following age levels: Under 6 Under 7 Under 8 Under 9 Under 10 Games are played on Saturday mornings with the 8s, 9s & 10 s playing on the grass courts using goal rings that are 8ft in height. The 10s play on the bitumen courts, this commences part way through the season, using goal rings that are 10ft in height. As per Northern Gold Coast Netball Association ( NGCNA ) guidelines, all players in Nova s must gain experience in all positions on the court and coaches must rotate players positions each game to learn new skills and above all to enjoy themselves. NGCNA will also be running a NetSetGO! program in NetSetGO! is an introductory program for 5-10 year olds teaching netball basics in a fun and safe way and it's a great way to learn or brush up on basic netball skills. Junior & Intermediate Divisions Competitive divisions Dispute Resolution Procedures Any issue within your team is to be brought to the attention of your team manager. If you wish to speak to your child s coach, please do not interrupt during a game or training session. Wait until the end to speak in private with any concerns. Please also feel confident to approach the relevant committee member, i.e. Club President or Vice President who are here to assist you in every way possible. Carnivals Throughout the season, invitations are received by the Club to attend carnivals from other netball associations. Managers and coaches will be notified of these dates. It is entirely up to each team whether they are prepared to enter carnivals. Communications (Website, Facebook & Newsletter) Throughout the season our website, will be the main point to review and download netball information. A newsletter is also published regularly and this publication contains handy information and updates on the happenings within our Club. It is therefore important that you ensure our Club Secretary has your correct address so you are kept up-to-date throughout the season. Breakers Netball Club also has a page on Facebook. We request that parents and players who also use Facebook like us to receive regular updates about the club through this social media forum. Competitive teams play under standard Netball Australia rules from Under 11 through to Opens. Depending on numbers in each age group, grading maybe required for some Competitive Teams
Fixtures at NGCNA Games times will be published on the Club website and will also be distributed through all team managers once NGCNA have completed the draws. It is also important to note, that whilst coaches and managers are provided with a First Aid Kit, it is stocked for minor injuries only. Therefore, if players have a pre-existing injury, please ensure that you have the appropriate sport protective accessories, such as ankle or knee braces. Arrival Time It is the coaches decision as to when they would like their players to arrive before game times. The Club recommends players arrive 30 minutes before the start of their game. This allows sufficient time to warm up, receive instructions from their coach and to sign the score card. Coaches Having a coach is critical to the functioning of each team. Coaching is a great way to understand the strategies of the game and be involved with your daughter s development. The coach is usually a parent of one of the players within the team, although it is not essential. NGCNA requires coaches to undertake Netball Queensland s Foundation Coaching course and the cost of this course is covered by the Club. Coaches are issued with the equipment needed for training and if you are interested in taking up a coaching position, please contact our Executive Committee. We have a number of coaching courses available for those who are interested. Court Time It is the policy of Breakers Netball Club that all players should have approximately the same amount of time on court during the season. Inability to Play If you are unable to play please let the coach or manager know in advance so that they may rearrange the team accordingly. In the event of illness, please contact the coach as soon as possible so replacement players can be arranged, if necessary. Insurance All players are covered by insurance in the event of injury during training and fixtures. If any player should injure themselves an Incident Report will need to be completed and forwarded to the Club Secretary. Any serious injury an ambulance would be called as required. Further information regarding the Insurer and claim forms can be found on NGCNA s website Team Managers The team manager assists the coach with the running of the team. The manager will ensure game bibs are washed for game days, completes game cards on Saturdays and ensures each player signs the score card before taking the court, scores or organises a scoring roster (we can train you if required) and generally co-ordinates team communication during the season. Again, team managers are usually a parent of one of the players within the team. If you are interested in becoming a team manager this season please contact our Executive Committee. Umpiring Players who are interested in becoming an umpire may do so from the age of years of age. Practical experience and umpiring knowledge is assessed by the NGCNA. If you are interested in umpiring, please contact our Umpire Convenor. Any players wishing to umpire will be given appropriate training and will be encouraged to attend appropriate courses
Sponsorship With a new netball season underway, Breakers Netball Club would ask you or your business to consider sponsorship of the Club for Without the generous support of our sponsors, the Club would not survive. We need your support to ensure the Club can provide a great environment for players, supporters and volunteers. Like many community sporting clubs, we value the great opportunities our sponsors provide us. Whether a personal sponsorship or provided from a business, funds received can be put towards new playing equipment, first aid equipment and further training opportunities for our coaches to name a few. Please talk to us if you are interested in sponsoring so we can discuss the many benefits of being a Breakers Netball Club Sponsor and enjoy the successes of our great Club. Uniforms To ensure all players are in uniform for the first round of competition, it is of high importance that uniform orders are placed on or as close as possible to the sign on dates, due to tight lead times from the suppliers. We request that players also wear black bummers/bike shorts underneath their uniform and that only a black/white or skin tone bra/crop is worn (no bright colours) and plain white ankle socks are worn. Please refer to the Club s uniform policy for further information. Grading - Team Allocation Training Club training will be on Thursdays between 4:00pm - 6:00pm and all players are expected to attend training each week. The first training date is the 19th February Initially, training times will be as follows until teams and coaches are confirmed. Non Competitive Teams 7 s and 8 s 4pm 9 s and 10 s 4pm Competitive Teams 11 s and 12 s 5pm 13 s - 17 s 5pm Permanent team training times will be advised as soon as possible once final numbers and available coaches are confirmed. POST PADS MUST BE USED AT ALL TRAINING SESSIONS. Inability to train The coach or manager must be notified before training if a player is unable to attend. The coach has the discretion to withdraw court time of a player for the following reasons: No valid excuse for not attending training Not following the coach s directions Causing disruption at training Please keep in mind at all times that the officials are all volunteers who give generously of their time so your children can have a fun and safe time playing netball. They are constantly making decisions that they believe will be in the best interests of our Club. As advised previously depending on numbers in each age group there may be grading required for the competitive teams. If this is the case, Club trials will be conducted over the first couple of weeks of training. Players who wish to remain with friends should notify the club and be prepared to play in the lower divisions. Please refer to the Club s grading policy for further information
