2 WELCOME TO SPRING HILLS FOOTBALL CLUB Spring Hills FC is the first junior football (soccer) club for the surrounding areas of Caroline Springs, Hillside, Taylors Hill and Burnside. Our name, colours and logo were derived from the children in the local schools and the club has a strong sense of community involvement. In fact, all of our committee members live in the local area and are committed in making the club a huge success. In forming the club the committee s main goals are:» To develop and promote physical activity and positive social interactions for children, and to encourage them to be part of the community through playing the game of football (soccer).» To help support the local community by encouraging increased involvement by residents, organisations and groups.» To increase self-esteem and self-importance for children and as a consequence, reduce the likelihood of children participating in anti-social behaviour. springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 2

3 OUR GROUNDS Our home ground is at Springside Recreation Reserve and consists of 2 synthetic pitches. The ground is located on Lancefield Drive, near the corner of Hume Drive and Gourlay Rd, Taylors Hill, directly behind the schools. We also have a training facility on grass ground, located on Calder Park Drive, Taylors Hill. These facilities include lighting on all grounds. TRAINING Training for all age groups is usually held on a week night twice a week between 6pm and 9pm. Training is usually for an hour with the younger children starting at 6pm. Days and times are determined by a number of factors including ground availability, Coaches availability, number of children, and age of children. Please check with your coaching staff for days & times. WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY As a general rule we do not cancel training/games unless conditions are dangerous (lightning, flooded grounds etc.) Therefore always assume training/games are on unless notified. Coaches will attempt to contact parents if training/game is cancelled for any reason. springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 3

4 WHAT TO BRING/WEAR TO TRAINING All players should wear a soccer top or T-shirt, shorts, socks, shin guards and soccer boots. In the interest of children s safety, children not wearing shin guards & boots will not be allowed to participate. If weather is cold children should also have a tracksuit top, jumper or windcheater and tracksuit pants or similar. Children should also bring a drink bottle. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with player s name. NOTE: A PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST REMAIN WITH THE CHILD AT ALL TIMES DURING TRAINING/GAMES GAME FORMAT All children up to and including Under 11 play small sided games where the emphasis is on enjoyment and developing skills and not about winning. No scores are recorded! Under 6 and 7s play 4 versus 4 games on small grounds. Under 8 and 9s play 7 versus 7 games, including goalkeepers. Under 10 and 11s play 9 versus 9, including a goal keeper on a slightly bigger ground. Under 12 and up play 11 a side competition. springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 4

5 SMOKING/ALCOHOL POLICY Please refrain from smoking or consuming alcohol in the vicinity of the children. We remind you that we are a junior soccer club and many children suffer from Asthma. There are designated smoking areas around the ground. These are located in the area close the referee s room or behind the benches of the main ground. If unsure, please ask one of the club members and they will be more than happy to show you. Bringing alcohol to the ground is strictly prohibited. The club has a licence to sell alcohol and this can be purchased from the canteen on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday post the junior games. Alcohol is strictly prohibited outside the club rooms. Smoking is NOT permitted at any time on the synthetic pitches. PARENT VOLUNTEERING At least one parent from each player must agree to help in volunteering their time and donate up to ten (10) hours of volunteer service throughout the season in activities such as:» Canteen duties» Game day preparations (ie setup and pack goals, nets, corner flags and cones)» Ground Marshalling and crowd control» Linesperson referee during competition/games days» Fundraising activities (eg. selling raffle tickets or helping with the BBQ)» General ground cleaning by picking up rubbish and putting into bins» Activities during Presentation Day springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 5

6 MEDICAL EXPENSES The insurance policy provided by Football Federation Victoria (FFV) with respect to medical and like expenses incurred as a result of injuries suffered by players during the course of training and/or competition may not cover all of the medical expenses and that any shortfall in the cost of obtaining urgent and/or continuing medical treatment shall be borne by the player or parents. All injuries must be reported within 30 days of an injury occurring and the relevant insurance form is to be completed and sent to FFV. Injuries or accidents that occur during the game or training must be recorded on a Spring Hills FC incident form by the coach/manager and forwarded to the Spring Hills FC Committee. The club recommends that all players must have their own private health insurance with extras (such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, ambulance and dental services) as the insurances with the FFV is very limited and payouts are capped to only $2000. springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 6

7 CODE OF BEHAVIOUR The following Code of Behaviour for Spring Hills FC is adopted not only by football, but by most sports clubs. It is vital that all people involved in sporting activities, whether they are players, parents, coaches,officials or supporters understand their responsibilities to ensure that all participants enjoy their sport. All members must read understand their responsibilities as these are the terms and conditions in joining the Club. All members must support the principles behind the codes, and to actively follow the practices outlined below. Any repeated or serious breach of these codes will result in expulsion of the member from the Club and their membership fees will not be refunded. Any fine imposed by the Club or the Football Federation for a breach of conduct by a member will be payable by the member. springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 7

8 GENERAL CODE OF BEHAVIOUR 1. A total ban on smoking or the consumption of alcohol at any club event including training nights and game days, except in designated areas and designated times. 2. Condemn the use of violence or abusive language in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players 3. Support all efforts to remove racial, sexual and religious vilification, verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. 4. Do not intimidate, harass or use foul language towards, players, match officials, club officials or spectators. 5. Show respect and appreciation to club volunteers, including coaches, officials and administrators. 6. Ensure any incident or issues are raised to the Club Committee in writing immediately. PLAYERS CODE OF BEHAVIOUR 1. Play by the rules of the game. 2. Do not argue or abuse with match officials. If you disagree, have your captain or coach approach the match official during a break in play or after the match is concluded. 3. Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking another person is not acceptable or permitted in any sport. 4. Play for your own enjoyment, and not just to please parents and coaches. 5. Maintain your focus and work hard for yourself and your team. 6. Be a good sport and be prepared to acknowledge good play whether it is from your team or the opposition. 7. Remove all jewellery prior to training and match play, as it is a hazard to you and those around you. 8. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player. 9. Cooperate with your coach, team mates and opponents. Without them, there would be no competition. 10. Any decision made by the team s coach is final and no player will challenge that decision. Any problems must be reported to the Committee. 11. Do not accept or use any banned or unauthorised drug(s), including the consumption of alcohol at any time. 12. Any fines issued to the Club for player offensives (ie Yellow or Reds cards) will be payable by the player. PARENTS CODE OF BEHAVIOUR 1. Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours. 2. Encourage all children to participate, do not force them. 3. Focus on the child s efforts and performance rather than the result of the game (ie. winning or losing). springhills-player-induction-2016.indd 8

9 4. Encourage children to always participate according to the rules. 5. Never ridicule, or scold a child for making a mistake before, during or after any training session or game. 6. Remember that children learn best by example, so applaud good play by both teams. 7. Applaud good play and performances from both teams, and be forward in congratulating all participants on their performance regardless of the final outcome. 8. Respect the match official s decisions and teach your child to do likewise. 9. Any decision made by the team s coach is final and no parent will challenge that decision. Any problems must be reported to the Committee. 10. Any fines issued to the Club for parent misbehaviour will be payable by the parent. 11. Parents must not coach from the sidelines during matches and training. COACHES CODE OF BEHAVIOUR 1. Remember that children participate for the fun of it and that winning is not everything. 2. Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or being in a losing team. 3. Be reasonable in your demands on younger player s time, energy and enthusiasm. 4. Teach your players to abide by the rules and laws of the games. 5. Whenever possible, change the group of players to ensure everyone has a reasonable chance of success. 6. Game time is at the discretion of the Coach. Coaches will coach according to what s best for the team. 7. Ensure that equipment and facilities meet a reasonable safety standard and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players. 8. Modify your approach to suit the skill levels and needs of players. 9. Develop and enhance respect between players, opposition coaches and the decisions of the match official. 10. Follow the advice of a physician when determining the extent of a player s injury and beyond that, when players are returning from injury to training and match play. 11. Keep up to date with the latest coaching practices (refer to Coach Accreditation Criteria) and the principles of growth and development in children. 12. Take time out to teach players (& others) the Laws of the Game, hence raising their awareness. 13. Remind all players to play within the spirit of the game at all times. 14. Ensure players are good sports and ensure each team member shakes the hand of their opponents at the conclusion of every match. 15. 10 PARENT RELEASE FORM FOR MEDIA RECORDING / PHOTOS I, the undersigned, do hereby grant or deny permission to Spring Hills FC to use images of my child, as marked by my selection(s) below. Such use includes the display, distribution, publication, transmission, or otherwise use of photographs, images, and/or video taken of my child for use in materials that include, but may not be limited to, printed materials such as brochures and newsletters, videos, and digital images such as those on the Spring Hills FC website. Deny permission to use my child s image at all. Grant permission to use my child s image in the following ways (mark all that apply): Limited usage: I want my child s image used within the Spring Hills FC setting only (not in the larger community). Limited usage: I want my child s image used for educational materials only (not marketing). This could be either within Spring Hills FC or in the larger community. One example of this could be videos in parent education classes. Limited usage: I want my child s image used on printed materials only (no digital or video use). Unrestricted usage: I give unrestricted permission for my child s image to be used in print, video, and digital media. I agree that these images may be used by Spring Hills FC for a variety of purposes and that these images may be used without further notifying me.
