2 WELCOME Welcome players and parents to the Yorke Peninsula Soccer Association. Thank you for your patience and support. We trust you all are as excited as the committee about the coming months. We look forward to seeing some great soccer played and sportsmanship over the coming season. This season will have Under 6s and Under 8s participate in Mini Roo s. The season will commence on the 8 th of April for Juniors and there will be a 16 round playing season culminating in a Carnival / family fun day on the 19 th August. The Senior competition will start on Sunday the 29 th April will have 14 playing rounds. We have included below a range of information we hope will address most of your queries, should you have any questions the committee will be happy to help. REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS It is a requirement of YPSA Inc. that all players are financial members and players must be registered with YPSA Inc. and the Football Federation of South Australia (FFSA) prior to the participation in any match. The Junior Registration fee for 2018 will remain at $90 dollars for junior players older than 8. Mini-Roos (younger than 8) this year will be at a reduced cost of $65. No player game day match fee will be charged again during Sports vouchers can be used to reduce this fee by $50 for all Primary School aged children. Senior fees are $50 with an additional $2 per match fee to pay referees. Of this fee, $44.50 for Junior players and $25 for players older than 16 is payable to FFSA for affiliation and insurance the remaining balance has been paid directly to purchase equipment and progressing the establishment of soccer on the Yorke Peninsula. An unregistered player is not eligible to play in YPSA Inc. competitions and carnivals. Please speak with Executive committee, Registrar on payment plans should the need arise. 2

3 Code of Conduct Coaches Remember that young people participate for pleasure - winning is only part of the fun. Operate within the rules and spirit of your sport -help your players to understand that playing by the rules is their responsibility. Relate to officials in a courteous and polite way. Implement relevant sport safety policies and practices. Implement policy and practices (and lead by example). Listen to your players - ensure that the time they spend with you is a positive experience. Encourage young people to participate in administration, coaching and officiating - as well as playing. Promote a culturally tolerant environment. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants - regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. Keep up to date with coaching practices and qualifications ensure you understand the principles of physical growth and development. Give young people the chance to try out different playing positions Comply with club s child safe policy ensure you are aware of your mandated responsibility to report suspicion of child abuse and neglect. Complete the online training on Ensure that any physical contact with a young person is appropriate is it necessary for the player s skill development? Avoid developing any special relationships with children ensure that you show no favouritism such as the offering of gifts or special treatment. This includes intimate relationships and personal online social networking with team members. 3

4 Code of Conduct Players Play by the rules. Never argue with an official. - if you need clarification, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during a break or after the competition. Work equally hard for yourself and your team - your team s performance will benefit so will you. Be a good sport - applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition. Show respect to and acknowledge opponents and officials -(e.g. shake hands before and after the game and say things like good luck, thanks for the game, thanks ref, three cheers for ). Cooperate with your coach, team mates and opponents - without them there would be no competition. Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit - not just to please parents and coaches. Play fair no verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players (including vilification) or deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants - regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. Do not expect or accept special favours from a coach or person involved in team or club management. Speak to an adult you trust if you have an issue, feel unsafe or are concerned about someone else. 4

5 Code of Conduct Parents and Spectators Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment - not yours. Encourage children to play according to the rules - settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence. Never ridicule or yell at a child - for making a mistake or not winning. Respect officials decisions - encourage children to do likewise. Show appreciation for coaches, officials and administrators- remember they are usually volunteers. Applaud good performance and efforts - from all individuals and teams. Congratulate all participants- regardless of the game s outcome. Condemn the use of violence, verbal abuse or vilification in any form regardless of whether it is by spectators, coaches, officials or players. Support all policies and practices (lead by example). - This includes not drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes at YP Soccer fixtures and complying with all Child Safe practices Support involvement in modified rules games and other junior development programs. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person -regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. Ensure you are aware and follow the correct processes to follow if you have an issue or complaint - approach a committee member to alert them to your concerns do not perpetuate issues with gossip or general criticism. 5

6 PLAYER EQUIPMENT Shin Guards are essential safety equipment and are compulsory for each player before they take to the field in training or matches. They will need to be of suitable size for the player and necessary to reduce and prevent injury. These are worn under the socks which help secure them in place and prevent movement when running. Most sports stores will be able to provide fitting advice and coaches will be able to assist with this. It is also recommended soccer / football boots are worn as this assists greatly in slippery conditions. If parents are considering purchasing a soccer ball for their child the following sizes are standard and recommended by FIFA (World soccer governing body). Larger soccer balls are harder to control and delay skill development in children. These sizes will be used with children at training and on match days. Ball sizes shall be: (a) Under 7, 8 and 9 age groups a size three (3) (Note all Under 8s will be given a ball within two weeks of registration) (b) Under 10, 11 and 12 age groups a size four (4) (c) Under 13 and over a size five (5) ball. During the middle of winter season sun protection is generally not indicated, however during early Autumn and mid-late Spring we recommend a sports sun block be worn when the UV index moderate to High and ask that it is applied prior to scheduled start time. COLOURS & Uniform The YPSA Inc. Committee provides uniforms for all players for $20 at the beginning of the season. This includes shorts and a playing shirt. Socks need to be purchased colour will be dependent on the team. DURATION OF LEAGUE & ASSOCIATION CUP MATCHES 6

7 The duration of all Mini Roo s league and cup matches conducted under the auspices of the YPSA Inc. with the exception of the Carnival, shall be: Under 6s and 8s Mini Roos Under 12s Under 16s Seniors 45 minutes of games and activities 25 minutes each half 25 minutes each half 20 minutes each half CHILD SAFE ENVIRONMENT It is important that people involved in clubs are there for the right reasons. A change in legislation in January 2011 states that all paid or volunteer persons holding a prescribed position within a club/school/association will now be required to undertake a criminal history assessment. All volunteers of YPSA Inc. are required to satisfactorily pass a National Criminal History Clearance before participation in YPSA Inc. coaching, umpiring or volunteering and all YPSA Inc. committee members have undergone Child Safe Environment training as a requirement for participation on the committee. Please speak with YPSA Inc. committee member if you wish to join the group of volunteers bringing and developing soccer on the Yorke Peninsula. We would be happy to support new volunteers to obtain a National Criminal History and join the committee. As we are affiliated with FFSA, all costs to volunteers for Criminal History check are nil. We currently require volunteers for all roles and should we have large a number of player registrations there may need to be a player cap imposed due to limited Coaching and support staff. 7

And will update this list when names are confirmed Coaching sessions will be held at two venues during the 2017 season for all players playing in Under 12 and Under 16 competitions. Moonta Area School Oval on Thursday evenings, time to be confirmed Kadina Hockey Club under lights on Thursday evenings, time to be confirmed LAWS OF THE GAME All matches shall be played in accordance with the laws of soccer as laid down from time to time by FIFA, except such adaptations or modifications as may be contained in these Rules to take into account local conditions and regulations and the ages of players registered with the YPSA Inc. WEATHER Do not assume your game has been postponed because of bad weather. If there are changes to scheduled games, the coach will contact you to advise as soon as possible. The three main examples where a postponement will occur listed in order of likelihood during playing season are; in the event of lightning strikes / risk of lightning strikes due to thunderstorms, extreme heat and in the event of bushfire. Note the FFSA Policy for heat is as follows 8

9 When the temperature is forecast to be 33 Degrees Celsius or greater for junior competitions or 36 Degrees Celsius or greater for senior competitions, the competition shall be cancelled. FAMILY ENVIRONMENT The pitches that soccer matches and training is played on are school or community premises. Just a reminder that alcohol and cigarettes are not allowed. YPSA Inc.
