While feelings of inadequacy are completely normal at this age - it is an area that is often not directly addressed. The girls were encouraged to talk openly about their experiences and were given suggestions about what to do if they felt their nerves getting the better of them in the future. They had this to say about what they had learned: Alice Bailey: we learnt about the blockers and the boosters and its normal to get nervous Katherine Slingers: its ok to be scared and nervous India Rautenbach: the blockers can sometimes be very helpful Sarah Ashbolt: that everybody gets scared and nervous sometimes and that s ok Tara Mae Varney: winning isn t everything, so if you don t win you don t have to get upset Amy Lashbrooke: we learnt that even people who go to the Olympics get nervous so its ok for 9 and 10 year olds to get nervous Alex Ovendale: we learnt that you must try new things and be excited to try different things Charlotte Jacobs: it s ok to be nervous, it s normal, the only way to fix it is to talk about it. 7 Summer Sport A reminder to all Grade 3 7 girls that they must have signed up for a summer sport for next Term. SWIMMING A SQUAD Prep Pool U9 - U13 Girls who were in A squad in Term 1 will remain in the squad. Any girl who has been training over the winter and would like to re-time/ try out for A squad must Miss Karsten. All U8s will be re-timed during class to try out for A squad. B SQUADS Prep Pool B squads will be starting up again in Term 4. Parents who want their daughter to swim in a B squad must please fill out the form and or print and send back to Miss Karsten. Girls can choose either a Tuesday or Thursday B squad depending on their other commitments. TUESDAY B SQUAD o U9, U10 o U11, U12, U13 THURSDAY B SQUAD o U9, U10 o U11, U12, U13 WATER POLO All girls/parents must have confirmed with Miss Karsten that they are playing Water Polo in Term 4. Please note that if your daughter is training in a proper swimming squad out of school then she does not need to do squad swimming at Herschel in order to play Water Polo. (Except girls who are in A squad). If she is not in a proper swimming training squad out of school then, in order to stay fit for polo, she must swim in a squad at Herschel. Please confirm with Miss Karsten what outside squad you are training with, if not at school.
