They were also encouraged to meet other children from local schools and make some new friends. Cherrie said, It was fantastic and I met new friends, the games were really enjoyable. At the beginning we all felt nervous but when we got going we felt more confident. Lee-Anne said, The games were really cool, I liked tennis best. Make a Change for Life! Team C4L By Freya and Amelia The Change 4 Life club (C4L) have had two special events this term. A festival at the leisure centre and a dodgeball competition at our school. The children who took part played lots of games which involved running and throwing balls at 2 Eden Camp Visit On the 16 th of January, all of class 3 went to Eden Camp

with Miss Sanders, Mrs Simons and Mr Hodgson. It was all about WW2 (World War 2). It was quite a long journey. First we walked about then it was time to watch a puppet show.

It was funny, we sang a song. Joe from class 3 said, I liked it when the person who was doing the puppets threw some water at us, but it was a shame that not a lot of water landed on us! Then in our spare time we went and found some photo boards (see below), do you recognise these faces? Then it was lunch time (one of our favourite parts of the visit.) After that we did a competition, we went round the huts and we ALL learnt something to do with World War 2. Then we went home on the bus. When we finally got back to school we announced the winner. The winners were Alex, Alfie, William and James. The prizes were pencils that Mr Hodgson very, very kindly got us. Thank you to all the adults and parents/guardians who paid for the trip and came along with us. By Alfie and Daley. Around the world with Sowerby Music 3

Later that day classes 1 & 2 performed a concert with a little dance describing animals from around the world.

4 When the people of Sowerby Music came they showed us some really cool instruments.the instruments they brought were double bass, French horn, digeridoo, a Ghanaian drum and a really, really, really small guitar! Later that day classes 1 & 2 performed a concert with a little dance describing animals from around the world. They also made and used props such as digeridoos, flags and photos to make it more interesting. The song they performed was called Around the World. Most of us thought that it was pretty impressive (especially as they only had 1 hour to practise). Mr Hodgson said, It was a really interesting, fun and educational event. This is a picture of a double bass. 4 Cheeping Chicks Recently Class 2 had some eggs. When they hatched the children gave them names. They chose Jeffry, Eric, Harvey, Delores, Violet, Chicky, Axle, and Marina. Thomas and Lee-Anne said, They look funny, cute and nice, they re cheeky, wild and messy! Mrs Link was also very excited about watching them

By Ruby and Grace ROBINWOOD ADVENTURES by Isabella & William On the 21 st of February 2018 some of class 3 and 4 went to Robinwood. Two teachers went away with the children, they were Miss Sanders and Mrs Watts. with loads of challenges. James, the leader, took them to the caving area. He gave them a talking to, then they were ready to go into the deep, dark, depths of the cave! James said, We could explore deeper into the cave. They stumbled across a small room with soft, shining fairy lights and you know what they found? A wild Miss Sanders watching them through the cameras. Afterwards they watched a nature video to do with caves then they played hide n seek. THE GIANT SWING Everyone enjoyed the GIANT SWING at Robinwood, the teams worked hard pulling the rope making the swing go higher and higher, ready for the duo to chop the banana! They would say CHOP BANANNA CHOP CHOP BANANNA, so then they would chop the yellow string and that would release the GIANT SWING (Miss Sanders was screaming her head off!) CAVING On the 2 nd day of Robinwood they went Caving. They went through little, tight spaces 5

Ainderby Steeple came 2 nd. The hockey team had a photo with their hockey sticks and shiny, silver medals.

6 Jolly Hockey Sticks The quick sticks hockey competition was the 13 th March at the astro-turf pitch, Northallerton Leisure Centre. This is what Spencer from class 2 said about it, I felt nervous at the start because I didn t know how to play Hockey, but when I got started I felt happy; I was really excited and joyful that Ainderby Steeple came 2 nd. The hockey team had a photo with their hockey sticks and shiny, silver medals. Class 3s RAF Leeming WW1 visit On the 18 th of January children from class 3 went to RAF Leeming as part of a special event called Never Such Innocence They read a poem out to several schools in our area. 6 Danny in yr.5 said I felt nervous when I read out my lines of the poem. Amelia, also in yr.5, said, when I was reading out my lines in the poem I felt nervous and eager at the same time. I loved looking around at the WW1 projects and I liked doing CPR on the dummy. This is a picture of some artefacts used in WW1. Centre for Life On the 24 th of February class 4/year 6 went to the Centre for Life in Newcastle. Class 4 first went iceskating, which they expected to be last. Willow said, I fell over but kept trying. They next went to a planetarium (after lunch) which showed different stars such as Beetlejuice (the star that will next explode) it will be so big that it would be visible from earth (it s bigger than 4 full moons). After that year 6 went to a workshop that included a lot of crazy experiments. The first experiment was testing a space nappy because

By Ayken and Danny Safer Internet Week As part of Safer Internet Week the children carried out different activities to help them learn about how to be safe when using the internet, mobile phones and other technologies. Class 3 did a drama about a boy who spilled water on his clothes. While he was getting changed, his friend took a picture of him in his underwear and posted it online. The boy was very upset and embarrassed as all his friends and everyone around the world saw the photograph. The boy had not given permission to have his photograph online. We have learned that you must never post pictures of your friends without their permission or post personal details online. Katie from Class 4 said, We learned about keeping safe on social media sites. Texting, internet safety, passwords and which type of passwords are safe. By Oscar Swimming Competition On the 12 th January 8 people from year 5 & 6 (Alex, Joe, Miles, Lewis, Sarah, Molly, Isabella and Annabel) all went to the swimming gala at the leisure centre. Joe said, I m really excited to swim until he saw the massive crowd of people. Our team came first and won the trophy. Maths Morning On 23 rd March the children from classes 3 and 4 went into the hall with Appleton-Wiske School. We did a Maths Problem Solving Morning. We 7

did different tasks and got different resources to use (white-boards, white-board pens, rulers, cards and whiteboard-rubbers, number blocks and things to count with).

Mrs Watts organised what we would do. James said I liked the maths because it was challenging. Three people in class 3 got certificates, Grace and James got gold and Phillip got bronze. Charlotte from class 2 explained they do gymnastic warm ups and fun gymnastic activities; Freya from class 3 said, It s a really fun way of learning gymnastics and a very enjoyable club to go to. Mhairi also from class 3 said it was helping her get better at gymnastics. Exciting Cross Country Finals On the 22 nd of March at the X- country Isabelle represented our school in the cross country finals at Dalby Forest. She did an astonishing job and came 2 nd place. There were 70 children racing. She was determined to beat her cousin and was proud to come 2 nd. She got a medal and the medal was designed by Isabella in class 3. By Lexxi and Henry 28 th February - Snow day A day to remember! Snow day was a very good day because we got to have snow ball fights. People were building forts and even built massive snow balls, they were so big that you could sit 8

on them. William said he felt happy because his team vs Henry team had a snow ball fight. People who had full waterproof kit could go down a hill. People were having fun.

We played games and we raced to the gate and back. We had a massive snow ball fight and it was amazing. It was year 6 and year 5 v year 4 and year 3. We will never forget that day! People looked amazing and the whole school would like to thank the teachers and teaching assistants for participating in our world book day at Ainderby Steeple C of E Primary School, and for letting us dressing up for wbd (world book day). By Alisha and Mhairi Mhairi: I loved world book day, it was very joyful and exiting. Alisha: I loved world book day because it made me think about all the books that I ve read and also it made me feel super joyful. Here are some photos for you to look at. 10 FAST FOOTBALL By Ryan and Joe James Lofthouse visited school to teach Class 3 and Class 2 how to play football.
