1 Issue 2 Summer Term - 27th April 2018 I met with some of our Friends of The Raleigh team on Wednesday night to plan some super events but we desperately need MORE PEOPLE. You are all members of FoTR but events do not run themselves. House points are being awarded for attendance at this meeting, so your children will gently remind you of the date. Scores: Tygers 1, Falcon 2, Roebuck 4 and Ark Royal 6. Linkline reps, perhaps you could come and/ or drum up support? The next meeting is on Monday 1st October at 7.30, so please put it on your calendar now!!! Jolly Jars please consider filling your house-colour jars with a mixture of wrapped sweets (no nuts), small toys, items of stationery etc. This will reduce the sugar content significantly and be full of surprises! Needed 15/6/18. Congratulations to Alice Moodie and Zac Tinkler in Year 6 who represented The Raleigh back in January at the Leatherhead District Sports Athletics event and who have both now been selected to represent Leatherhead at the District County Finals Team on 12th July. What an amazing achievement, well done to them both. The Year 6 girls football tournament at Oakfield on Monday was great fun! Thanks to Miss McGuigan for organising and going and to all of the parents who transported and supported. See the match report and photograph on page 3. They did really well coming 4th but their last match they won 7-0! Well done girls. On Tuesday, Year 5 departed for Osmington Bay. A massive thank you to those parents who helped to move endless suitcases from the playground to the drop-off zone in Nightingale Crescent where the coach was parked. Then on Tuesday, Year 2 joined the other ELP schools for the annual music festival called The Big Sing at The Howard. They thoroughly enjoyed it, so thanks for organising this Mrs Robinson. Also on Tuesday, Miss McGuigan took 40 children to St Teresa s for the Aquathlon. They did extremely well and the results are on page 2. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves thanks Miss McGuigan. Wednesday found Year 2 having a Health Workshop. Thanks to our parents, Mrs White and Mrs Janssen who led such a fantastic workshop; the children loved using the stethoscopes and learning loads about their bodies. On Thursday some of our Year 2 children took part in a Multi-skills Festival at The Greville, see page 2 for the full report. Thanks Ultimate Coaching! Also yesterday, Year 3 enjoyed their Wow day immersed in all things Greek, including dressing up and cooking. Thanks to the Year 3 staff team for organising this and to all of the parents who provided such brilliant costumes. This morning Rev Herrington led a great assembly on how to cope with huge challenges very engaging. The children also heard today all about the Reading Cloud, with incentive house points available for borrowing books and writing on-line reviews. Thanks Mrs Dennis. Year 5 had a great time at Osmington Bay this week and returned tired but happy. The physical geography in a coastal study enhanced their classroom learning enormously while the outdoor adventurous activities challenged all of them as well as being great fun. Thanks to Miss Maclean, Mrs Batey, Miss Nicholls, Mrs Studholme, Miss Powell and Miss Li for their planning, organisation and pastoral care 24/7. Time for bed. Show and Tell just so that you know the procedure.this is limited to KS1 and there is no guarantee that it will happen on the same day/week that your child has brought something in. In KS2 in Years 3 & 4 only, it very occasionally happens if a child has brought something in with a clear link to the children s current humanities topic. All clearly labelled, out of school sporting stories and achievements are taken directly to Mrs O Neill, (the children all know this) for awarding on Thursday in an achievement assembly. If they are brought in on the Thursday they need to be taken direct to the Hall as I often do not go back into my office in between playground duty and assembly. Once again though, because of time pressures the child may not be awarded their badge/medal etc the same week. Finally, a reminder that we have two inset days coming up; 8th & 9th May. If you are looking for something to do on 9th May, Mrs Whittaker, one of our parents has a very generous offer for your children to go and ski or climb. See the flyer on page 6. Thanks Mrs Whittaker! What a fab day that would be!!! Statistics! Last week there were 9 children arriving late, 5 children attended medical appointments and there were 19 unauthorised absences and family holidays. 57 children now have 100% attendance for this academic year! The school has two tennis nets that it no longer needs. Is there someone out there who would like them? They could probably also be used for badminton. First come first served and free of charge. Contact either Mrs Light in the school office or Miss McGuigan in Year 2.

2 The Aquathlon Tuesday saw 40 children head to St Teresa s in Effingham for the Aquathlon. It is a fantastic event and it was the first time many of the children had participated in such an event. All of the children showed passion and determination, especially Harry Widdowson and Alice Moodie who took on the Olympic course! Please see below for our fantastic results. Thank you to all of the parents who transported and stayed to support, it was much appreciated. Thank you to Miss Maclean for her top tips as well. Year 3 Girls 2nd Ami Jones Year 3 Boys 4th Oscar Jacques Year 4 Boys 3rd George Williams and 4th William Jones Year 6 Boys 1st Jacob Jacques and 2nd Zac Tinkler Multi-skills Festival On Thursday, 10 Year 2 children went to The Greville to participate in a Multi-skills festival. They had fun trying to beat their personal score at different activities, such as Rats and Rabbits. Thank you to Ultimate Coaching for attending and parents for transporting.

3 Girls Football Tournament On Monday, a team of 9 girls went to Oakfield to compete in the ELP Girl s Football tournament. There was some tough competition and the team played well, with some great determination. They came 4th and ended the tournament with a 7-0 win! Well done and thanks to the parents for the transportation and support. 4 Children s author, Grant Koper, will be coming into school on Thursday 3rd May to give Reception and Year 1 and 2 a live reading of his children s book The Day Granny s Knickers Blew Away. If you would like your child to have a signed copy of the book, please complete the form on this flyer and bring your 6 to school on Wednesday or Thursday next week.
