A very big thank you to them for their time. CHILDLINE On the 16 th September 2015 ChildLine came to our school to do one of their workshops. Another school, Kirkby Fleetham, planned to do the workshop with us, but unfortunately Childline couldn t come the time that was planned! Kirkby Fleetham went back to their school because they couldn t wait for the workshop. In the end Childline came to Class 4 and we really enjoyed ourselves, the volunteers were going to Kirkby Fleetham after us.

The ladies did a brilliant job teaching us about the work of ChildLine. They got some different colour boxes and each time someone told them something they were afraid of they put a box in a bag. Then every time we said someone we could talk to if we were worried they took a box out the bag. This was to show that if we get worried we can always talk to someone. They also taught us some actions to remember the ChildLine number which is Supreme Squash month Class 3 did some Squash P.E sessions in October followed by a squash competition. Jack said, There were 4 teams, including Ainderby, and on a scale of 1 to 10 I would say 9 because the team won 2 times and it was so much fun. Annabel said, The lessons were my favourite because we did so much fun exercising and learnt how to throw the ball to get a good angle. Greek Day On the 29th of September 2015, Class3 had a GREEK DAY and a visitor called Nina came to teach them about GREEK LIFE and GREEK GODS. I asked James G some questions about what they did. Here is what he said: What did you do? Weaving, he replied. What did you see? Greek pots and clothes, he said. What did you learn about? Mostly about the Greek gods, he shrieked He rated the day 10/10 3

E I E I OH THE MOBILE FARM HAS COME! The mobile farm arrived on the 30 th September and made a lot of noise seeing as though there were lots of animals. Cherry Rose said, The best animals were the sheep, goat, crazy pig and the Shetland pony. Henry Tweddle said, The best part was when the lamb escaped and ran around the school field. The mobile farm was placed on our school field and stayed there for half of the day and lots of children in KS1 loved it. The children had a full blast of education about where the animals live and what they eat. There were 18 animals in the mobile farm, this is a list if all the animals: sheep, duck, pig, horses, lama, chickens, ducklings, rabbits and a goat. Key Stage 2 swimming lessons From Friday the 18 th October to the 27 th of November, key stage 2 went to Hambleton Leisure Centre Swimming baths to do swimming lessons. We did lots of lengths, fun activities and races. During the last week of swimming we played games in the water. Top group s activity was to get in to teams and grab sinkers from underwater and when each person had got a sinker in their team they would shout FINISHED. The fastest team to get the sinkers won. Annabel (8) said, My favourite thing was diving in and getting sinkers and I would rate it 10 out of 10. We all had fun and learnt a lot! Super Skip 2B fit On 5 th of October, Key Stage 2 joined in with a skipping workshop called Skip 2B Fit. It took place here at school. Molly said, It was absolutely brilliant, I loved the two minute challenge best. 4

Dave did lots of fun activities and games with everyone. We all loved it, and everyone knew how many jumps they had done because the skipping ropes had counters. Dave from Skip 2B Fit, teaching us how to skip. On 5th and 6 th of October, Year 6 did Bike Ability. The Year 6 s coach was called Roger Shicluna, he told them how to keep safe and ride well. Toby (Class 4) said it was fun because they got to ride on the road. The School Photographs On 6 th October 2015 a photographer came into our school to take our individual photos so relatives and other people could buy them. On the first day of Bike Ability it poured down and everyone got soaked - so they had to finish early. But on the second day it was nice and sunny so they were able to finish the course. After all the year 6 s all had a good time - everybody passed and on the following Friday they were given their certificates and badges in Celebration Assembly. Richard of Impressions came into our school; he tried to make us laugh so our smiles looked beautiful. James G from Class 3 said he really enjoyed it, his picture looked nice and finally he said Richard made him laugh. All the pictures looked lovely and we hope people liked them! 5

F.A.S.S. Film Night On 8 th of October, some children came to F.A.S.S. film night. The film was Paddington. score it 10/10. Our school have bought the equipment and Classes 3 and 4 have since been using it in PE lessons. Dave also worked with Class 4 to show them some ideas for leading playground activities with the other children. It was a wonderful day and everyone enjoyed it. Everyone loved it. A lot of people thought it was great. Charlie said, The film was good. Eve said, It was very funny. We brought 1 each to get a packet of crisps or chocolate and a drink. Thanks to F.A.S.S. for putting on another great event we wonder if the next film will get top picks in the cinema! Brilliant Box 2 B fit On the 12 th October, Dave came to do another workshop called Box 2 B fit with the school. Each class participated in a boxing circuit with different stations. Sarah T said, My favourite station was the blueberry bounce (an activity that involves throwing a ball on an elastic string and catching it). She also said she would On the 21 st of October there was a cross country competition at Northallerton School. Lots of people entered from our school and tried their best. Lewis from Class 3 said, I really enjoyed it and I was very pleased that I came fourth. Tehya from Class 4 said, I loved it and I was pleased I came eighth. 6

Everyone had fun and we were all very exhausted at the end of their race. Class 4 read 2 poems called Harvest for the World about deforestation and the Rainforest. The service was enjoyed by everyone. Harvest service On the 22 nd October, we all walked to church for our Harvest service. This year it was a sunny day to walk there. Essie said, It was fun to walk to church with Cherrie-Rose. Class1 sang a song called Golden Leaves Are Falling Down to the tune of London Bridge. Class 2 sang a song called Harvest Samba. Class 3 sang a song called the Harvest Song in which James G played a starring role as a farmer looking after his crops. Sarah T said, I found it really fun because I did a song with Katie T. On the 5 th of November the cricket club started and finished on the 1 st of December. Not that many people went but the people who did really enjoyed it. Lucas said, It was EPIC! We all really enjoyed it. Batting was the best part because it is the most exciting and active. Brandon said, I liked the batting best because it is fun to whack things like the ball. Everyone said they learnt lots of new skills and had lots fun. 7

Book fair From the 2 nd of November to the end of November, Change For Life Club was run by Mr Hodgson in the hall on Mondays after school. Each of the children got wrist bands and booklets to track how much sport they did. Isabelle said, We played fun games and activities. Wiktoria said, I liked the games we played my favourite game was Rats and Rabbits. Ruby said I would rate it a 10 out of 10 because it was very fun. Isabelle said It was the best club ever I would defiantly give it a 10. They played games and did lots of fun exercises and now they are all fit! Fun Fireworks On the 10 th of November class 2 performed an educational assembly all about the Gunpowder Plot and Bonfire Night. Pupils in class two told us some interesting facts about the Gunpowder Plot and did a firework dance. Eve (Class 4, age 10) said, It was really interesting and the dance was very fun. Lucie (Class 4, age 10) said, I liked the paintings Class 2 had made and the dance. 8

Alicia (Class 4, age 10) said, I would give it a 10 out of 10! Parents came as well and they all enjoyed it. Everyone now knows how to be safe on Bonfire Night and is looking forward to Class 2 s next assembly in VILE VICTORIANS On the 11 th of November, Class 4 went on an interesting trip to Ripon Workhouse, Police Station and Courthouse Museums for their Victorian Topic. In the morning, Class 4 boarded a coach, (Procter s Coaches), and set off to Ripon. When they arrived at the workhouse museum, they were greeted by Matron, Mr Porter and a museum guide. Firstly, they went into the Guardian s room and acted out different scenarios. Eve, Lola, Lucie, Harvey, Jack and Charlie were paupers and everyone else were Guardians. Afterwards, the class split into two groups and whilst one group went to a Victorian school, the others had a tour of the workhouse. After lunch, the class went to the Police and Prison Museum. They heard the story of the Sinkler brothers, who were Victorian poachers, and Finley and Toby from one group acted them out. The children were also locked in a cell and screamed like banshees - it s no wonder the adults were tempted to leave them there! At the end of the day, they went to the Courthouse Museum and acted out the case of a stolen cart. Charlie was the Judge, just because he wanted to bang the gavel. Sadly, they ran out of time. Sorry Charlie! Alicia (age 10) said, I thought it was very interesting and I learnt a lot. Lola (age 9) said, It was hilarious wearing the wigs! They all said the Victorian school was very different to our modern schools. Imagine writing with quills and chalk on scratchy slates all day! Eve (age 10) exclaimed. All of class 4 enjoyed the acting and had a great time. Everyone said they wanted to go again. Mrs Watts said she would definitely recommend the museums. On the 8 th of November Katie D laid a wreath at St Helen s Church for Remembrance Sunday. After the two minutes silence Katie laid the wreath on the cross to remember the people who died in the war. Katie said, I was nervous but once I did it I felt really proud of myself. 9

prickly!). Olivia P-S (5) said, My favourite part was when we saw the hedgehogs. On the 11 th of November it was Remembrance Day. At 11am we had two minutes silence together in the school hall and remembered the people who fought in the war. Thirsk Wildlife Haven On the 12 th of November 2015, Christa, head of Thirsk Wildlife Haven, came to our school to talk about her job (she also brought two cute little creatures along with her!). Christa runs the charity to look after sick injured animals. We have sent various animals which we have found injured at school to her to help get better. Our school charity this year is the Thirsk Wildlife Haven so we need to try really had to raise lots of money for them. The Wildlife haven is in Christa s house so she has animals on the loose in it! We learnt a lot in her collective worship. Ella (5) said, I really enjoyed it and I learnt that hedgehogs put their spikes up when they are scared. When the collective worship was over she called each class into the hall and she showed us the hedgehogs she had brought in. We were allowed to stroke and touch them (they are not that 10 If you want to find out more or donate go to Christa has also got a wish list that she would like people to donate, so please try and help! Anti- Bullying Workshop On the 12 th November, Class 3 had an anti-bullying workshop in the school hall with pupils from Kirkby Fleetham, South Otterington and Appleton Wiske schools. The workshop was led by Katie from AJ Academy. The children did dancing, drama and miming and they all enjoyed it. I spoke to some of the people who took part and this is what they said: Molly G said, It was good, I liked the dancing the best. Sophie said, It was fun.

Children In music on the radio and we sang our hearts out. Charlie T said, Although we didn t get to go to RAF Leeming we all still enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately we couldn t reschedule! Need Nonuniform Day On 13 th November our school had a non-uniform day to raise money for Children In Need. Most people wore Pudsey ears and costumes. We raised 86 and it was great fun! At lunch everybody got a cake with Pudsey Bear on top. It was a great day and we all loved it. CRUCIAL CREW AT RAF LEEMING On the 16th November Class 4 planned to go to Crucial Crew at RAF Leeming. SILENCE FOR PARIS AS CLASS 4 TRAVELLED BACK FROM RAF LEEMING, THE REST OF THE PUPILS IN SCHOOL WERE PREPARING TO KEEP A SILENCE FOR THE VICTIMS IN PARIS. ALL THE PUPILS JOINED HANDS IN A CIRCLE ON THE PLAYGROUND WITH MRS SHARP. CLASS 4 ALSO OBSERVED THE SILENCE ON THE COACH WITH PUPILS FROM SACRED HEART SCHOOL. Unfortunately, we couldn t go to Crucial Crew because there was a security alert as this was just after the tragic events in Paris, no-one was being allowed in or out. Due to the queue of traffic, we were unable to go straight back to school so we waited to see if they would let us in. While we were waiting we listened to 11

Class 3 s Greek assembly On the 19 th of November Class 3 performed an assembly for the school and their parents. They performed a play about the Ancient Greeks, which they had been learning about in Topic. Molly said she really enjoyed doing the play which was about the battle of the Minotaur. Finley said he loved the sound effects especially the Minotaur s roar. All of the parents seemed to like it too! Class 3 did an amazing job. Well done everyone! Nosy Nearly On the 25 th of November, Riding Lights Theatre Company put on a very funny Christmas performance called Nearly the Goat in our school hall. The show was about a man called George and a goat called Nearly (who was very nosy). Together they acted out the Christmas story, with an exciting twist. The actors were really funny and four girls from Classes 2 and 3 were chosen to be angels. Two children from class 1 were interviewed: Charlotte (age 6) said, It was really funny, my favourite part was when the goat hit the wolf with a frying pan! Lottie (age 6) said, It was very funny but silly because the wolf was scared of the goat! They both gave the performance 10/10 and hope the company returns next year. It was an amazing show and all the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Afterwards, we went outside early for an extended playtime! Christmas Fairies Every year each class make Christmas decorations in Art and DT. The hall is 12

decorated on the 30 th of November by the Christmas Fairies. Class 1 decorate the school s Christmas tree. This year Class 1 made candy cane mice, paper Santa s and Snowmen, Snowmen baskets, baubles and paper Christmas trees. The other class s decorations are put up on strings across the hall. Class 2 made Christmas puppets and paper plate wreaths. Class 3 made pom-poms, twig stars and 3D Christmas trees. Class 4 made paper angels, mistletoe, wreaths and Nativity peg figures. The hall looks beautiful now and there are fairy lights so it looks very pretty when it s all lit up. Lucas said, It was the best disco I have ever been to! Everyone had a great time, it got us all in the Christmas mood. Thank you F.A.S.S for organising the best disco. On the 5th to the 6th December at St Helens church, there was a Christmas tree celebration. There were forty Christmas trees altogether including two from our school which looked amazing. Tehya from Class 4 said, I really liked the way all the Christmas trees looked. All the Christmas trees looked beautiful and everyone who went had fun. BAUBLES On the 9 th and 10 th of December classes 1 and 2 performed a play called Baubles. On the 4 th of December our school had a disco which was organised by F.A.S.S The D.J (Silly Steve) played some amazing tunes! This was followed by some epic dancing. Baubles is about children forgetting to decorate the Christmas tree. The caretaker (Mrs Potts) decorates the Christmas tree for them, with the nativity pictures on the baubles. Each morning when the children come into school, there is a new bauble on the tree. 13

It was an amazing performance and we have some talented young actors in the future. Christmas Carols at Abbeyfields On the 9 th of December some members of class 4 went to Abbeyfields residential home in Northallerton to sing Christmas carols for them and decorate their Christmas tree. We made the Christmas tree really shiny and bright. We hope they all liked it. We all enjoyed the singing and decorating the tree. We hope they enjoyed it as much as we did! We also got food afterwards which was probably the best bit for us as there were lots of tasty things! Stable Manners Christmas play goes down a hit. On the 15 th December it was the KS2 Christmas play. This year the play was called Stable Manners. Katie in class 4 said that she thought Stable Manners was a good choice and she would do it again. In the play there was a variety of 10 songs, Phoebe in class 3 said that she loved the songs and wanted to sing them again. Especially the song, We had to follow where she leads the kings and camels. The performance was a big success we wonder what it will be like next year? New FASS Sport Kits We would like to say thank you to FASS for the new sports kits that they have provided us for sport events. They are amazing, we are all so excited to use them and show we are Ainderby Steeple School. Our head boy and girl modelled them as you can see in the photos below. Thank you FASS for all your generosity this year and your help. 14

The Christmas Dinner and DVD On the 16 th of December it was the Christmas dinner and DVD. The Christmas dinner was EPIC (Toby said!). We got a cracker each to pull and the food was lovely, couldn t have been better - it was delicious! Thanks to Mrs Walker who came into school at 6.30am! N.Y.C.C CONCERT On the 16 th December we had a music concert performed by N.Y.C.C Music Service. They were amazing musicians who played a variety of instruments to inspire children to get a kick start in a musical career. The songs they played made us feel different emotions and we had a really good time. I hope we have a lot of young musicians in the future. The DVD was really funny we all enjoyed it, the DVD was Minions. Christmas Parties and Santa Visit On the 17 th of December we had our Christmas parties and Santa came and gave us presents! We had a great day. One of the games we played was the strawberry lace game (where you suck a strawberry lace as fast as you can without touching it!) Everyone tried as hard as they could and lots of people took ages because they were laughing. Also, we played a game where you put hats, gloves and a scarf on and you cut up chocolate with a knife and fork and eat it. All the little ones were so excited when they heard Santa s bells ringing. We all got a present. Thanks Santa! Everyone had a great time and will be looking forward to it next year. 15

Christmas Carol Service On the 18 th of December at 2:00, the whole school tried their best and sung there hardest at the Christmas carol service. Everyone sung amazingly and Class 2 did exceedingly well with their acting. Everyone had fun as well. Eve said, It was really good and the actors did really well. WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR Charlie said, It was spectacular. After an enjoyable afternoon, Class 2 brought the service to an end and we all broke up for the Christmas Holiday.
