2 themanornews FOTM and Barefoot Books FOTM (Friends of The Manor) hosted a coffee morning with Barefoot Books and invited the Nursery and Pre- Nursery parents to come along and catch up over coffee and cake. Whilst the grown-ups were busy, the children were entertained by Mrs Belcher s fabulous storytelling. All books purchased on the day helped to raise money for new books for the school Library and for everyone to enjoy. Stamp Out Bullying In September The Manor proudly took part in a national campaign run by the First News newspaper to Stamp Out Bullying. The finale of the week was a national stamp, where children across the country downed pens and pencils to stamp on the spot for 30 seconds in a protest against bullying. We even made it into First News itself! Hockey Victory The Manor s U11 hockey team were triumphant this October by winning the Portsmouth Grammar School Hockey Tournament. Out of five matches they drew their first match, won the next three and lost their final one. However, this took them into the final level on points with opponents Hoe Bridge. The only goal of the game was scored by our very own Rose C and our girls came home victorious!

3 All aboard the Knight Bus! During half term some very lucky young witches from years 5 and 6 boarded the Knight Bus to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour to see all the sets, costumes and props from the Harry Potter films. The girls had a fabulous time riding on broomsticks, drinking Butterbeer and running away from Death Eaters! The Harry Potter trip was amazing and was a truly memorable experience which I will treasure forever. Nidhi G Year 6 Our half term trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour was truly magical. We got to see the real costumes and actually ride on broomsticks. The Butterbeer at half-time got mixed reviews but nearly everyone agreed that Death Eaters were seriously creepy. We are all very grateful to Mrs Williams, Miss Reed and Mr King for taking us. Rosie M Year 6 I would love to go back to Harry Potter World because it was exciting and intriguing there was so much to do and a lot of information about Harry Potter and the films, plus more fun than you could imagine. 4 themanornews Pyramids and Pharaohs Year 4 have had a wonderful time learning all about the Egyptians with the help of the History Off The Page company. With the smell of incense in the air, the girls learnt how the Egyptians made their own inks, oils and soaps whilst all dressed in their stunning Egyptian outfits. A huge effort was made by all involved including the teachers and some very willing parents. GRUBS... is the environmental group at The Manor Electric Lego City Whilst learning about electrical circuits in Science the school was treated to a visit from Electric Lego City. The girls spent the day making their own Lego cities featuring houses, shops, farms and even a petrol station. Once complete and ready for the grand switch on, all the curtains in the Main Hall were closed and the tiny lights inside their miniature city were switched on to reveal the most beautifully tranquil little town. The first grubs meeting of the new school year concentrated on butterflies, as suggested by the children. They learnt all about the life-cycle of the butterfly then put together butterfly puzzles followed by colouring in a turntable which showed the different stages of the life-cycle.

5 Ahoy me hearties! Pirate Day Shenanigans Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic Pirate Day this term. Everyone came dressed up with parrots, cutlasses (plastic of course!), scars and even the ship s cat made an appearance. The children spent the morning making treasure maps using quills and ink, winches, lucky doubloons, leather purses and eye patches. They even had the opportunity to take the helm and visit the ship s doctor for some home-made remedies. Skull and crossbones flags were designed and hoisted. After lunch the children had to mop the deck, keeping an eye out for one-eyed Jim ( Why is he called oneeyed Jim? I hear you call well there is only one i in Jim!). The hidden treasure was eventually found by Xavi S. After a busy afternoon of tying knots, the story of Davy Jones, jolly pirate songs and sending messages using semaphore the children returned to dry land, happy and exhausted. Thankfully there was no sign of anyone being made to walk the plank!

6 Ted s Blog This term I spent a very enlightening day with Pudsey Bear on Children in Need day. We both wore matching bandages around one ear and we spent the day being cuddled by lovely Manor pupils we really did receive celebratory status! The children came to school dressed as their favourite superhero or wore home clothes and in return they paid a donation to Children in Need. The school was full of supermen and batmen (mainly the teachers!) and well over 500 was raised. It was refreshing for me to chat to the children they are so happy to know that their pocket money goes to help sick children and are saddened by the fact that not every child has toys to play with hopefully their wonderful contributions will help to change this. I had a fantastic day but felt a bit of a fraud; firstly because I only ever get to wear school uniform, not home clothes (perhaps I should have a word with SHUS about some Manor Ted PE kit ) and secondly because although I wore a bandage over my ear I wasn t really poorly just pretending!
