in this issue: IAPS Netball Winners Down on the Farm Manor Mummies Re-Unite Surprise Panto Olympic Inspiration London Calling GRUBS Culture Day Ted s Blog Spring Term 2016 NEWS
themanornews IAPS Netball Winners Our U11 Netball team played their best netball ever in the IAPS finals this March, particularly in the Finals games when the pressure was at its highest and fatigue had kicked in. They performed in true Manor style and thoroughly deserved their win. Well done team! Down on the Farm On a rare bright and sunny day in February the Reception children enjoyed a trip to Farmer Gow s where they fed the sheep, pigs and goats, carefully collected chicken eggs and hunted for treasure in the hay bales. A great day was had by all. Manor Mummies Re-Unite Over coffee and biscuits, Manor mummies and staff chatted about the good old days when they themselves were Manor pupils. The Manor s history book was wellthumbed as pieces of The Manor s history were unravelled around the table. We are sure there are more mummies out there who were once pupils here please do join us next time.
Surprise Panto The new term got off to a flying start when the children were treated to a surprise performance of Strictly Come Dancing In Panto-Land performed by the staff of The Manor! The children whooped and cheered as their teachers took to the stage in funny costumes to perform routines for judges Craig Rebel-Horrid, Darcy Bustle Sprout and Len Goody-Two-Shoes (Mr Heyworth, Mrs Stokes and Mr Ramm).
themanornews Olympic Inspiration Chloe Rogers Olympic Bronze Medallist, Chloe Rogers treated us to an inspirational day of hockey. Chloe delivered technical advice on aspects of the game such as dribbling, passing and receiving. Each session London Calling Year 6 had a whistle-stop tour of London this term taking in Shakespeare s Globe Theatre with a workshop in the Globe theatre company s own rehearsal rooms. After lunch they explored the delights of the Tate Modern with their sketch-books in hand. Opinions were divided about some of the artworks, but all agreed it was an excellent day out! concluded with an autograph and Q&A session with The Manor children asking some fantastic questions to gain insight into the life of an Olympian. GRUBS... is the environmental group at The Manor In GRUBS we learn about the environment, nature and the big outdoors and how to look after our school and planet. In the Spring Term our main focus was on reminding our fellow pupils and staff of ways that we could be more environmentally friendly at school. Lots of us agreed that there were small, easy things we could all do that would make a huge difference. Here are just a few suggestions: Don t waste food at lunchtime. Don t leave taps running. Turn off the lights when you leave an empty classroom. Make sure you water plants around school. Throw your rubbish away in the bins provided. Put scrap paper in your classroom recycling box. Respect the nature and wildlife in and around our school. To make sure we don t forget these top tips, we made mobiles to hang in each classroom. We are now all looking forward to the Summer Term when we shall be going on our annual visit to the Millets Falconry display and doing a little bit of planting at school.
Culture Day A carnival-style opening ceremony set the tone for a lively day spent learning about countries from all over the world. Each section of the school explored a different continent with each class finding out about an individual country and wearing the colours of its flag for the day.
Ted s Blog I love helping to raise money for charity and this term I got to help my friend Jesse in Nursery raise money for the special charity his parents set up in memory of his brother Skye. Blue Skye Thinking raises money and awareness for poorly children with brain tumours. The whole school were allowed to wear home clothes for the day, in return for a small donation, but there was one condition, they all had to wear my favourite colour, blue! In the afternoon Jesse s mummy treated us all to a super fun magic show starring a magician called Simon and his pet dragon. Skye loved magic and it cheered him up when he was in hospital and Blue Skye Thinking want to take the magic show into lots of hospitals to cheer up more children. We loved the show. I think the trick finding coins behind the children s ears was my favourite I keep checking behind my ears for more coins, but no luck so far!
