1 Redbrook Rustle ISSUE 2 (FREE) TERM 3 March 2016 Redbrook Voices Raise the Roof Joanne and Millie enjoying the concert On 13 th January 2016, pupils from Redbrook Hayes travelled to the LG Arena in Birmingham to join lots of other schools for the Young Voices concert. When the children arrived, the stadium was packed with children and buzzing with excitement. Firstly the children rehearsed the songs together with the orchestra. Songs performed included Thinking out Loud and Hold my Hand. After a short break for tea, the parents and families of the performers arrived. The arena was really loud and excitement grew throughout the performance. Demi Winton, a Year 6 pupil said that it was a massive opportunity to perform with other children and I really enjoyed the event. My favourite song was Power in Me. My Mum was really proud to see me performing with all of the other children. Well done Demi and all of the Young Voice 2016 performers! Hollie Hodson Bethany Richards Fantastic Fundraising! Jenson Maguire from Class 4 has been busy raising money for new Ipads for our school. During one of his school swimming lessons, he successfully swan 20 lengths of the swimming pool and managed to raise a fantastic 300 in sponsor money. He was sponsored by his family and friends to complete the event. Jenson enjoys his swimming lessons outside of school too and loves learning new strokes. His favourite stroke is the breaststroke. He has worked his way up to Stage 6. Well done Jenson and thank you for your hard work! 1 Libby Burley Liam Richards

Flat Stanley goes on lots of different adventures in the stories after he was flattened by a bulletin board! The children decided to create their own Flat Stanley s to post around the world. They were posted within the UK and to places like Spain and even Japan! Collector: Christopher Bennett Collection: Match Attacks Collecting since: 2011 Total collected: 621 Why do you collect them? I like to know new players and their skills. Does anyone help you to collect them? No I like to do it on my own. When and where do you collect them? I collect them every Tuesday from the Co-op. Cerys Cassell, Year 3 pupil said My Flat Stanley had a great time! I showed him around my street and what it was like to be me. He even played bingo with my Nan! I thought he was the best Flat Stanley! Other Flat Stanleys visited Chasewater, the races, the hospital and the Wacky Warehouse. The children thoroughly enjoyed their work on Flat Stanley! On Thursday 23 rd February 2016, a puppeteer named Andrew Purvin visited school to work with our Year 3 and 4 children. Andrew is a professional puppet maker and puppeteer from The Fetch touring theatre company. Andrew worked with the children to create 2 giant puppets for their Rio carnival. The children had great fun creating a toucan and a butterfly. Year 3 and 4 s Rio carnival will feature puppets, masks and even salsa dancing! We will let you know all about it in our next issue! Eggs are boiled and then painted. Children then roll eggs down grassy hills. Whoever s egg rolls the furthest wins! Germany In Germany they have Easter egg trees called Ostereierbaum. Decorated eggs are hung from the branches of the tree. Australia In Australia the Easter bilby is an alternative to the Easter bunny. Chocolate bilbies are eaten instead of chocolate rabbits. 6 Sport Key Stage 2 Athletics Tournament. On 13 th November 2015, children from Rugeley and Cannock primary schools got together to compete in the Key Stage 2 athletics tournament. The tournament took place at Rugeley leisure centre. Each team competed in a variety of different activities, ranging from relay races to standing long jump. The competition was tough but Redbrook Hayes worked hard and tried their best. Redbrook Hayes have been triumphant at the KS2 tournament for the last three years but this year came second with 338 points. It was neck and neck right until the end! St Luke s Primary School in Cannock won with 356 point! Jamie Leigh Milligan Year 5 and 6 have been doing swimming every Tuesday for the last term at Rugeley Leisure Centre. Each week the children are divided into four groups, two for beginners, one for the average swimmer and one for the more advanced. Each group has been really pushing themselves to be better and have been excited about going swimming. During each session each group practise floats, like the mushroom float, as well as certain strokes like the backstroke. Well done for all of your hard work Year 5 and 6! Let s find out more about the Sports Council from Mr Hudson! Why was the sports council created? We wanted to listen to pupils to find out what they want. We also want to make sport at Redbrook Hayes fun in PE lessons and at break time. When does the sports council meet? We meet every half term. What made you think about creating a sports council? We already have the Junior Lead Learning Team and it was a good opportunity to listen to pupils voices on sports matters. How will the sports council help our pupils?
