ETIQUETTE OF THE GAME OF GOLF Members are asked to pay particular attention to the following paragraphs they will add to the pleasure on the course of all concerned. 1. Check the Local Rules before you hit off. 2. Keep up with the group in front. If you fall one hole behind you must call the following players through without request. Should players in front fail to call you through in these circumstances you should request to play through. 3. Do not walk ahead of someone still to play but aim to position yourself and select your clubs before it is your turn to play. On the putting green repair plug marks and study the line of your putt before it is your turn to play. 4. Consider pulling the bag of the last player on the tee forward immediately after the player has played their shot. This can help save time. 5. Watch other players shots and if there appears to be a possibility of a ball being hard to find, mark its position carefully and discuss your view of the probable position as you walk forward with the player. 6. Play a provisional ball when there is a chance that the ball may be lost. 7. Call following players through if they are waiting and your ball is not immediately found. A player may search for his ball for 5 minutes but waiting players must be called on to play through if it is your turn to play and your ball has not been found. Players who call through another match should, if convenient, play their next shot and walk forward with the group called through. They should then not resume play until the players called through are out of range.

8. Finish putting out if you can without standing on another s line. 9. Pass the flagstick to another player before it is your turn to putt. There is no need for all players to stay near the hole while the last player finished putting. The player having the honour on the next tee should move towards the next tee and be ready to play. 10. Tell your marker clearly how many shots you took as you complete each hole. Never mark your card when it is your turn to play and do not hold up play by marking your card on the green. 11. Enter and leave bunkers at their low part and walk directly to your ball via the flat portion of the bunker. Smooth or rake all marks in a bunker and leave the rake in the centre parallel with the line of play. 12. All players must carry a sand bucket or dispenser and place sand in a divot mark. 13. Repair ball marks on the putting green, particularly your own, and repair spike damage after putting out. 14. Move briskly between shots and stay aware of your responsibilities to other players in the field. 15. If you are falling behind you can progress much more quickly if the first player who finishes the hole hits off first at the next. 16. All mobile phones must be switched to silent and used only when absolutely necessary the Match Committee strongly discourages the use of mobile phones whilst on the golf course.

POLICY ON VISITORS AND INELIGIBLE MEMBERS PLAYING ON SATURDAYS The timesheets will open as per normal (2 weeks prior) and will be restricted to those categories of members who are eligible for Saturdays. 11 LATE CANCELLATION AND NO SHOW POLICY As a courtesy to fellow members and the professional staff who start the fields it is expected that when a member is unable to make their booking that they provide at least 30 minutes notice of their cancellation. Due to an increase in the number of members failing to show for their tee time, or providing very little notice of their cancellation the following policy will apply. For members failing to show for their tee time or providing less than 30 minutes notice of their cancellation, within any 3 month period: 1 st occurrence no penalty 2 nd occurrence member will be advised verbally of their failure and will be reminded of the policy. 3 rd occurrence member will be advised in writing and will not be eligible to play for 1 week from the breach. 4 th occurrence - member will be advised in writing and will not be eligible to play for 2 weeks from the breach. Further occurrences within a three month period will be referred to the Board of Directors for consideration and possible suspension of membership rights. While it is understood that members will make bookings for other members, it still remains the individual member s responsibility to know their own bookings and cancel at least 30 minutes prior to their tee time, should they not be able to attend. To cancel on the day of the event Members must phone the pro shop as the timesheets become locked for editing at midnight prior.

MEMBERS GUEST POLICY This policy provides guidance to the staff and members when a member brings a guest to the Club. Definition A Member s Guest is a visitor that plays with a member in the same group. A member may bring up to 3 Member s Guests with them on any one day and they must remain with the Member throughout their round. Additional visitors not playing in the same group as a Member s Guest will be charged at the visitor s rate. Payment of fees A Member s Guest will receive a discount on their green fees. See the Green Fee schedule for actual rates each day. Responsibility of the Member The member must ensure that the Member s Guests adhere to the Club s policies including but not limited to course care, pace of play, dress standards, BYO alcohol.

PACE OF PLAY POLICY Due to extensive member feedback and in accordance with the Rules of Golf (Rule 6.7) this Pace of Play Policy has been established on the following principles: All players (not just the lowest marker) are responsible for the speed of play of their group All players are required to be on the tee 5 minutes prior to your tee time 4 hours and 20 minutes is the required maximum time for a group to complete 18 holes Over 4 hours and 30 minutes is an unacceptable period of time to complete 18 holes of golf Therefore, penalties may be applied to the first group in a competition field that takes more than 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete their round of golf. The Match Committee will consider all contributing factors and may apply these penalties as follows: 1. On the first occasion each player may be sent a letter advising them of their first official warning for slow play. 2. On the second occasion in a four month period that player/s may be restricted to being able to only book in one of the last two tee times of the morning or afternoon fields for the following two week s of competitions. 3. On the third occasion in a four month period that player/s may be suspended from playing in a competition timeslot for one week. STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE A GOOD PACE OF PLAY Strategies to assist players in achieving an acceptable Pace of Play include: Check-in at least 10 minutes prior to your tee time. Be on the tee 5 minutes prior to your tee time. Every player is responsible for the speed of play of their group. Always endeavour to keep up with the group in front of you. Move quickly between shots and be ready to play when it is your turn.

If you are behind, abandon the Honour system and the furthest from the hole hits first rule and adopt the procedure where, if it can be done safely, the person who is ready hits, even if he is further up the fairway, providing it is safe to do so. On the tee, shorter hitters hit first. Longer hitters hit last. Play a provisional ball if there is some doubt to where your ball finished. Leave buggies on the side of the green nearest the access to the next tee. Line up your putt and get set to putt while other players are putting without breach of etiquette. Putt out whenever possible (except in matchplay). If you have the honour on the next tee, hit first and then mark your scorecard. Mark your scorecard on the next tee while others are teeing off. In other than Stroke competitions, pick up your ball when you cannot score. If you lose a ball and or fall behind, play your next few shots as soon as it is safe to do so. If asked to catch-up to the group in front by Club Official a group has 2 holes to achieve their correct position in the field. Please follow these timing checkpoints during your round: (a) complete the first 6 holes in 1 hour 25 minutes (b) complete the front 9 holes in 2 hours 10 minutes (c) complete the first 15 holes in 3 hours 35 minutes (d) complete the 18 holes in 4 hours 20 minutes Please do not: mark score cards on the green. take an excessive number of practice swings. replay putts.

Routine monitoring of weather forecasts for the local area to identify any storm activity which could pose a threat to those on the golf course. b. Timely advice to players on the golf course that electrical storm activity is approaching. That advice will be in the form of the warnings issued by the Queensland Bureau of Meteorology and will indicate: o o Direction of approach of the storm system Estimated time of arrival in the local area (information obtained from weather bureau sources) Having received that advice the decision as to whether to continue to play or not rests with the individual. It should be noted that a player who fears for their safety may discontinue play at any time and may leave take cover prior to the Committee s official suspension. PROCEDURE FOR RESUMPTION OF PLAY

GOLF COMPETITIONS AND HOW THEY ARE PLAYED These notes are only intended to assist in the general concept of how various competitions are played. They must be read in conjunction with the Rules of Golf and in particular the Committee shall lay down the conditions under which a competition is to be played (Rule 33.) STROKE (Medal) The score at each hole is entered on the scorecard, totalled and the player s full handicap deducted. The player who completes the stipulated round in the fewest nett strokes will be the winner. PAR In Par play the score is entered on the card in the same way as in stroke play with the exception that where the score exceeds par for the hole, after allowing the handicap stroke (if the player is in receipt of one) the score need not be written in. It is the custom that when a player is beaten by Par, the ball shall be picked up. This helps speed up play. After entering the stroke score on the card, the result is marked in the column provided with + sign for a win, a 0 for a half and - for a loss. At the end of the round the plus and minus signs are added and the nett result written in as so many up, down or all square. A player is allowed his full stroke handicap and the strokes are taken at holes as indicted on the card. Where the handicap is more than 18, two strokes will be allowed on the number of holes that the handicap exceeds 18. These strokes will be taken as indicated on the card.

STABLEFORD This system is of scoring by points was introduced by Dr. Stableford of the Liverpool Golf Club in 1931 and has become very popular. The popular method of playing a Stableford competition is for the player to take strokes at holes in a Par competition using handicap and to score points on the nett result at each hole. At the end of the round all points scored are added up and the player having the highest number of points is the winner. In scoring, after allowing for handicaps, a player who scores par receives 2 points for 1 over par 1 point for a birdie or 1 under par 3 points for an eagle or 2 under par 4 points, and so on. For example, a player receiving a stroke on par 4 holes scores 4 giving him a nett 3 for this he receives 3 points. A player at a par 3 hole scores a 4 but does not receive a stroke, for this he would receive 1 point. FOUR BALL STABLEFORD Played in exactly the same manner as above except that the better ball of the partnership will be credited with points instead of plus, half or minus. FOURSOMES Two players play as partners and use one ball. The partners strike off alternately from the tee and thereafter strike the ball alternately during the play at each hole. Scoring is done as for a stroke round and the total is subject to a deduction of half and partners aggregate handicaps. NOTE: If either player incurs a penalty stroke it does not alter the rotation of play. In a foursome stroke play competition, which consists of more than one stipulated round the order of play may be changed between rounds unless the committee has laid down as a condition of play that the original order of play must be preserved throughout the competition.

All the foregoing competitions are forms of stroke play and subject to the Rules governing stroke play. Special rules for par and stableford competitions are set out in Rule 32. Rule 31 covers the special rules for four-ball par and stableford competitions. Foursomes may be played under either stroke play rules or match play conditions and Rule 29 is relevant to foursome events. In addition to the competition listed above many clubs conducts competitions which are not specifically covered in the Rules of Golf. Some of the more popular types of play are listed below together which suggestions regarding methods of conducting these events. It cannot be too strongly emphasised however, that since these competitions are not covered by the Rules of Golf, the committee must carefully lay down in advance and publish the condition of play. The State Association, will not, except in the most exceptional circumstances give a decision on any query submitted, when play is conducted otherwise than in accordance with the rules. MIXED FOURSOMES Mixed foursomes are played in the same manner as foursomes except that the ladies use their own tees and observe their own local rules when it is their turn to play. The Committee should lay down as a condition of play whether the male or female is required to play from the first tee, and in competitions played under stroke conditions, and consisting of more than one stipulated round, whether this order is to be preserved.

CANADIAN FOURSOMES Played as above except that both players play tee shots at every hole and afterwards continue with whatever ball they nominate. AMERICAN FOURSOMES Both players play tee shots at each hole, then a second stroke with their partner s ball. One ball is then selected and play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected playing the third stroke. Handicap allowance is ½ of aggregated stroke handicap for stroke competitions. This event is sometimes called Pinehurst Foursomes. ECLECTIC Competitors play two or more rounds and the eclectic score is the lowest score obtained at each hole on the rounds. Sometimes the competition extends over the whole season and the total score for the holes is subject to deduction of ¾ the player s handicap held on the first day of competition.

4 BALL AMBROSE RULES OF PLAY CARBROOK GOLF CLUB TEE SHOTS EACH player must use at least 2 of their tee shots, the scorer must RECORD on each hole whose tee shot was used. ON THE FAIRWAY The selected ball should be marked Other balls PLACED within one club length of the selected ball, no nearer to the hole Any order of play OFF THE FAIRWAY The selected ball should be marked Other balls PLACED within one club length of the selected ball, no nearer to the hole And played from the SAME CONDITIONS as the selected ball ie hazard, rough, bunker Any order of play ON THE PUTTING GREEN The selected ball should be MARKED Other balls to be putted from within ONE CARD LENGTH either side of the selected ball, no nearer to the hole In the interests of speeding up play any player may tap in to obtain the optimum score. Other players may then putt only while there is an opportunity to better the score.

4 BALL GENTSOMES AMBROSE RULES Modified Ambrose/ Best 3 out of 4 Stableford 1. All players hit the ball from the Tee. As in a normal Ambrose event, the best ball is selected. All players place their ball within 1 club length of where the original ball lay. If the chosen ball is in the rough or a hazard, then the other balls are to be dropped in the same area. 2. If the selected drive is on the putting green (eg Par 3s) then the players must place their balls within one card length of the selected drive. 3. From this point on, all players play out the hole as per a normal individual Stableford round. 4. A minimum of 3 drives per player must be taken and a maximum of 6 per player (mark card in "Drives Column" to identify selected drive). 5. At the completion of each hole, the aggregate of the best 3 out of 4 Stableford scores of each hole are recorded which gives you a team score for each hole. Individual scores can be recorded in the "Other Information" column but are not compulsory. 6. For groups of 3, they will have a virtual fourth golfer who contributes 2 points per hole. 7. The team with the most number of points is the winner.

FIXTURE PROGRAMME BEFORE PLAY Members are requested to arrange competition times by booking on the computerised time sheet before the day of competition. On Competition days, players should register at least 15 minutes prior to hit-off times. The club professional is authorised to amend time-sheet bookings if circumstances so require.
