There are so many beautiful places in the world but it s more than the visual beauty of a destination that makes it special. There was no secret sauce in our business plan, said Burden. We focus on key locations that must be oceanfront, slope side, or city central. We stick to our knitting and never look for second row locations. You should see how hard our feet are paddling under water to secure the best locations. Our years of experience provide the soft skills necessary to secure entitlements. Our private residence club model eliminates much of the hassle of second home ownership, explained Greg Spencer, CEO of Timbers Resorts. When you reach a certain net worth, you can afford to vacation anywhere. Eleven years and two Timbers projects later, Edgerton returned to Hawaii to launch their newest development Hokuala on the island of Kaua i. I was born and raised on the Big Island, so being close to my ohana [family] was a highlight, but knowing that Timbers is committed to being authentic, unique and respectful of their destinations was the determining factor. If ever there was a place that has those great bones that David looks for, it s the Island of Kaua i. Beautiful no doubt, but it s truly the community, the people, the aina [land] and the intangible aloha spirit that makes this place so special. KAUA I S BASE CAMP FOR ADVENTURE Our newest project, Hokuala, presented somewhat of a homecoming for me, said Edgerton. Hokuala is a 450-acre, 10-year development that, at completion, will include a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, whole and fractional residences, a boutique hotel, a tennis garden, retail shopping, restaurants, and a handful of single family estates. With 38 acres of navigable lagoons and waterways throughout and endless miles of community trails for running, biking and exploring, Hokuala will be the base camp for adventure on Kaua i. Water taxis will take owners to the new Hokuala Golf Clubhouse to check in for their tee time or tennis lesson at the new tennis gardens. The Shops at Hokuala will boast an oceanfront restaurant with a wraparound lanai with breathtaking views of the Pacific and the verdant-etched mountains.

Trade winds are a fact of life in Hawaii. The harder the wind blows, the harder most try to hit the ball. In reality, it is exactly the opposite. Playing into the wind, you want as little spin as possible, so that the ball has a dead flight through the air, rather than a spinning flight through the air. It s a technique that will serve you well. The 16th hole on the Ocean Course at Hokuala is a standout. Be careful playing the drivable par-4. It challenges you to make the right club selection. If your tee ball travels down the slot, then you have a chance to drive it on the green and putt for an eagle. A tee shot miss and you have an awkward pitch to the green. The smart play is usually to hit a hybrid or a 3-iron, leaving you a little wedge down to the green.
