2 SPONSORSHIP & REGISTRATION 2 LETTER FROM THE HONOREE Dear Advertising, Media and Communications Community, Thank you for taking time to read this note. If you have received this packet, then you will have somehow been on your own personal journey in our business for a period of time. For myself, having now worked in some form of the entertainment, media, and advertising business for the past 20 years, I have recently been reflecting with gratitude to know I was as much personally shaped, as professionally-shaped by the people and all of you, who I have both looked up to and grown alongside, as we have made our way through the various chapters of our careers. It makes me smile to think about the many people who start out sitting across from us at a conference room table or over a lunch meeting, who just a few years later (or less) we call our friends. They know our families, our stories and they understand the trials and tribulations of our profession. Unlike many industries, this community is a family. We listen, guide, show up and watch out for one another and sometimes to the degree that is completely unexpected. I have learned this in a very personal way recently as my 8 year old son did a fundraiser, called Quinn s Cocoa for the Cure to find a cure for my daughter, and his twin sister Emma, who has Angelman Syndrome. Quinn s goal was to double this effort from last year and raise $80,000 which I thought was a big stretch, but I said we would try. As part of the effort, we hosted a cocoa stand and open house at the Dentsu Aegis Network offices in Los Angeles. As part of this, myself and our entire office rallied and sent s to pretty much anyone I, and they, had ever worked with in our community. On February 28th, Quinn looked out at 500 people form our advertising, media and communications community and told his story. As of last Friday May 4th, Quinn reached his goal of $80,000 and a HUGE part of that accomplishment was from the people in our community, our work family, that showed up in a huge way. When I told Quinn, we did it, he beamed with pride and said, see Mom, you were worried we couldn t do it, but kindness always wins. Shortly after, I was asked to be the Ambassador for this incredible event. Not knowing a lot, I spoke with the organizers as well as a beneficiary of this charity. What I quickly realized, is that this too is about all about kindness. This organization is about showing up for people when life changes so quickly in ways we cannot expect and we must do what can often be the hardest thing, to ask for help and to be helped by others. Sometimes these stories are only whispers as the challenges that are faced will break your heart and the people themselves can barely utter the words, and others are sources of inspiration for those that have found the courage through this kindness to do what s needed to move forward. It is an amazing gift to receive true kindness, but an even greater gift is to give it, for when someone really needs it, it changes perspective and the human spirit, and has a ripple effect far beyond what may ever know. Please join me in celebrating the kindness that has already been offered by this organization and prepare for the kindness that may be needed by some of our family in the future. Through their programs we have seen many lives changed for the better. The charity golf tournament raises more money for Ad Relief than any other single event. Ad Relief of Greater Los Angeles is a 501(c)3 charity that since 1972 has granted over $2.5 million in emergency money to individuals in the Southern California advertising and promotions community, including fire, earthquake and landslide victims. Those with life-threatening illnesses have been helped with medical bills and other expenses.
