1 ANNEX C TO ASAIS AT 15 DATED 07 SEP 15 INTER-SERVICES TWIN TIP COURSE RACE INSTRUCTION 2015 SITUATION 1. Introduction. The inaugural inter services course racing event will take place during the Triservices festival of kitesurfing. This annex lays out the race plan, rules and regulations and event entry requirements. Course racing is an increasingly popular and recognised discipline and this event will provide and entry point for tri-service kitesurfers into the sport. 2. Aim. The aim of the inter-services course racing event is to allow the opportunity for single service teams to compete for the inter-services Course Race Championship 2015, around a technically challenging and physically demanding course. The event will also aim to introduce service riders to course racing and to encourage the development of course racing as a combined services kitesurfing discipline. EXECUTION 3. Timings. The event will take place on Wed 21 or Thursday 22 Oct 15, team registration will take place at 0930 at the judging tent. Detailed timings are at Table 1. Event Entry. Due to the technical nature of this event each service are only eligible to entry 1 x Senior team made up of 6 riders. The demands of the event will test a riders ability to ride upwind, therefore each rider must be competent and confident at riding upwind. 5. Location. The event will be run from Hayling Island (CBK) Beach. Error! Reference source not found. outlines the race area in general. 6. Individual Service Training. The first two days of the festival of kitesurfing are reserved for individual service training. Training programs are to be issued and managed by individual service leads. Training may be conducted from Hayling Island (CBK) beach, Hayling Island Public Beach or the surrounding area. Ref E must be followed at all times. Individual services may request that the race course be laid for the training days. 7. Race Course. Error! Reference source not found. details the general race layout. The exact orientation of the course will be dependent on the exact wind conditions and direction on the day. 8. Race Format. The race format and conduct is detailed in appendix 1. C - 1

2 Figure 1: General Race Area - Hayling Island 9. Prize Giving. There will be two prize categories presented at the prize giving event on Fri 25 Oct 15: a. Individual Race Winner. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals will be awarded to individual competitors who finish the race in those positions. b. Team Winner. Table 2 details the points awarded for each position in each heat and the final. The team with the most points at the end of the event will win the team trophy. 3 11. Safety Boat. AISTC will supply a safety boat / boats for the event that will be inside the race area at all times during the race. 12. Judging/Admin Tent. There will be a Judging/Admin tent erected on the beach close to the public car park. C - 3

4 APPENDIX 1 TO ANNEX C TO ASAISAT 15 DATED 07 SEP 15 INTER-SERVICES COURSE RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS RACE FORMAT 1. Race Course. Figure 1 details the race course laydown. Figure 1: Race Course Laydown 2. Race Format. The committee boat (positioned ivo the start line) will start and finish the race. The start sequence will be as follows: a. Red Flag up 3 mins to the start of the heat. b. Red flag down, Yellow flag up 1 min to start of the heat. c. Yellow flag down, Green flag up + sound signal = start of the race. Riders will cross the start line on a tack of their choice (preferably starboard) (1). Riders will kite upwind (2) to the windward race marker leaving the mark to port as they round it (3). Riders will then proceed across (4) to the separation mark (5) again leaving it to port as they round. Riders will race downwind and cross through the gate (6). Riders can round either mark and then proceed on the tack of their choice having rounded the gate markers (7) and start their second lap (8). Riders will complete the race by crossing the and start line (1) at the end of their second lap. 3. The race will be started by sounding of an air horn from the safety race boat. (flag sequence as above) a general recall will be sounded by continuous horn blasts and a waving of all flags 4. The race will consist of 3 heats and a final. Each heat will have 6 riders competing.
