6 Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Interest Form For Access & Habitat Program Regional Advisory Council The purpose of this form is to obtain general information for the Access and Habitat State Board concerning the qualifications of applicants for the Access and Habitat Regional Advisory Councils. The information may also be used in writing articles concerning appointments and activities of the Access and Habitat Regional Councils. Personal Data Name: Stephenson, Riley, K (Please type or print last name, first name, and middle initial) Legal Residence: Fir Creek Ln Philomath, OR Business Address: 7240 SW Philomath Blvd. Corvallis, OR Residence Telephone: Business Telephone: Address: Occupation: Riley@starkerforests.com Forester Regional Council applying for (check one): North Willamette Deschutes /Klamath South Willamette X Malheur Southwest Northeast Regional Council Position applying for (you may check more than one): Landowner X Hunter Chair To assist us in meeting our affirmative action objectives, we would appreciate information about your gender and background. This information is optional. Under state and federal law, this information may not be used to discriminate against you. Gender Race/Ethnicity Disability X Male Asian or Pacific Island Native American Female Black X White Hispanic Multiracial/Other Page 1 of 3
7 Statement of Interest Describe why you are interested in serving on an A&H Regional Council. Please attach separate sheet(s) if necessary. Your application will be evaluated using the following criteria: 1. Experience and knowledge of hunting or knowledge and breadth of experience in the agriculture or forestry industries. 2. Involvement in sportsman/hunter/conservation organizations or experience with fish & wildlife resource management issues. 3. Leadership in sportsman/hunter/conservation organizations or involvement in agriculture or forest industry organizations. 4. Leadership and experience on or with councils, boards, commission, and legislature. 5. Experience working with and/or representing the public. 6. Ability/interest in working collaboratively with others. 7. Participation in the A&H program 8. Ability to foster positive relations between landowners, and ODFW. I have been a full time forester with Starker Forests for three years, focusing on young stand development and commercial thinning. Working for a small timber company I also get my boots wet in an array of other forestry spectrums form burning, herbicides, animal damage, contract administration, and public outreach and education. One of our core philosophies is to use our public outreach program to try and reconnect our increasingly urbanized population to natural resources. This has given me the ability to connect and educated many on our industry. I think one of our key factors as humans is we all have some kind of inner predator within us and many just need the opportunity to hone those skills, either by having access to the resources or the education to peak interest in trying something new. I am involved and a member of three different sportsman organizations, OHA (Oregon Hunters Association) OOC (Oregon Outdoor Council) and BHA (Backcountry Hunter and Anglers). I have little experience working of councils or boards but over the last year I had the opportunity to sit in and work on some field work study s for the RIPRule committee set forth by the board of forestry. I feel that I have good collaboration and leadership skills that would benefit a landowner representative on the Access and Habitat Regional Board Page 2 of 3
